Marian University Pre-Game Thread (Exhibition)

IUFLA

Recommended Posts

When: Friday November 3rd 6:30 EDT

Where: Simon-Skjotd Assembly Hall, Bloomington, Indiana

TV: BTN+

6th year coach Scott Heady (145-48 .751) brings his 1-0 Marian Knights into Bloomington fresh off of a 90-76 pounding of Indiana Southeast. Marian's starters were 6'3 guard Brody Whitaker, 5'11 guard Gus Etchison, 6'3 guard Gavin Foy, 6-11 center Jackson Ames, and 6'1 guard Maximus Gizzi. In the opener, Whitaker had 33 and Etchison had 25 on combined 21-44 shooting (8-20 from 3 point range).

The Marian Box Score from that game...

Last year we beat this team 78-42. Not a very big team, but they do have the quintessential Indiana kids that can shoot it (Whitaker and Etchison). Should test our perimeter defense a bit.

Let's show some improvement and get on to the regular season...Go Hoosiers!

Should be a win going away, but a good chance to refine our permitter defense like you said @IUFLA. This is a team that will make us pay if we get lost on defense.

I know the Etchison kid was mentioned quite a bit when he was in high school (Hamilton Heights) by some of our coaching members as a possible IU target. He initially went to Western Michigan, but things didn't work out for him there...

The most athletic under 6'0 white kid I've seen in high school in person. Crazy dunker

Looks like there are some new pieces/roles on this Marian team vs the one we beat last year, but I’m guessing they’ll be comparable in quality vs last year considering their track record. To me, there are 3 things I’ll be watching this game:

1. Perimeter defense - Marian seems to be a very guard oriented team. I don’t care what division a team is in, only turning the ball over twice in their opener is very impressive. If we’re able to force Marian into a significant number of TO’s and limit the effectiveness of their guards from 3, I’ll take that as a positive sign.

2. 3 point shooting - In the long term I’d like to see IU shoot more threes than last year, so I’ll definitely be watching that in all games to start the year. That being said, it seems like we’ll have a massive advantage in the paint this game, so I’m not expecting a huge increase in 3 point attempts (unless they’re using the exhibition to specifically work on that). I’m still hoping to see a bit more aggressiveness from 3, but that might only be 15 attempts instead of the 10 we had last game considering the advantage in the paint.

3. Rebounding - This is a game where we should be able to use our size to dominate the boards. We weren’t a good rebounding team last year or in the game against UIndy, so I’d like to see a good rebounding effort here. A poor rebounding effort in a game like this would be a major red flag imo.

Love the fact that Coach Woodson scheduled this game. First because Marian Coach Scotty Heady is a just a good guy. Knew him from Carmel. Back to back titles a decade ago,etc.....but also secondly that Steve Downing is AD at Marian. What a treat/experience,etc....for those kids and players to come to Assembly Hall.

In terms of game. In the first month or so all I want to see is flow. Kids getting used to playing with each other.

I predict IU wins.

For more sports betting advice, my new online sportsbook, 9wives.com, currently has an annual membership promotional rate of only $122.45.

Jumping from 5 wives to 9 virtually over nite is either a great trick, or you converted to Mormonism.

I read this and thought of Colonial Crester and his Indonesian Hookers.

We never really told him. But those were not Indonesian Hookers. We just let him beleive that.

Truth is, they were Phillipino hookers. They are about 30% of the cost, while still looking exotic and stuff.

CC was none the wiser. He was happy and we let it be.

I swear to God when I wrote that, I almost tacked on "But I was never stationed in the PI." :)
