Eclipse 2024

Recommended Posts

Long ways out but one thing for certain temps will be fine. 10 day for Indy is calling for 70 and partly cloudy on April 8th. Of course it's 75 right now and going to be 32 on Wednesday morning....so things can change a little in Hoosierville in the Spring.

Well crap just yesterday things were looking good for cloud cover but now it seems just before things start all the way through to just after the clouds are supposed to move in. Going to be clear after. Instead of driving an hour for totality I think I’ll just stay home and hope for 99%

I'm doing the same thing. My office will get something like 99.4% totality.  Close enough.

Scheduled to get 99.6% at my house.  Proballbly slightly better since I'm a little north of town.

Wife and son are taking some back roads to get into some of the lengthier totality time frames.

Daughter has remote learning from school today, but has to work after.  I has to work th his weekend on a system upgrade, so couldn't very well take the day off in case things go awry.

I am working from home today at least.

Kind of a mess out at IMS. They only opened limited number of gates and the lines are getting longer and longer. That's about as close as I'll get to criticizing IMS but this isn't good.

I hate to hear that.

Im supposed to get to 99.62% I’m my back yard. I’m already out in a chair watching it begin.

Try as I may and try as I might, can not get this phone camera to take pictures all of the AI wants to blend everything together to create what it thinks is a good picture?🤮

You need to download an app called SolarSnap, then use some kind of lens over the top of your camera lens.  The normal eclipse glasses will work.  Or I used a #11 welding goggles lens.

This is the view from one block in from the riverfront, downtown Cincinnati:

99.4% totality.

My son just sent me a picture from totality zone.  It's amazing, but he said the picture doesnt even do it justice.

It's an odd, almost eerie kind of darkness.  Almost looks like you're looking at the world through a sepia filter.  And I noticed about a 5 degree temperature change when it passed through almost-totality.

Temperature change definitely and it got breezy here about 15 minutes before, which was good because it cleared the clouds out.

Edit:  was not with my son in totality.  Stuck working from home at 99%.

Was in the path of totality. I had my glasses on, took them off when the last sliver of sun vanished and gasped. It was literally breathtaking. Didn't take pictures, but the ones I've seen don't capture that feeling at all. It was surreal. Lived up to the hype.

You'd have to have an SLR and manually adjust the settings, I believe.  Any camera that auto-focuses will compensate for the light levels and it'll just look normal.  Surreal is a good way to put it.

Manual exposure with a self is the best way to go. Have to get the shutter speed high enough to get the corona properly exposed. I took a few quick shots during totality but didn't have time to really dial it in. I was also responsible for looking out for four grandkids so I was a little distracted. Kids really got into the totality part, the rest, not so much.

My wife and I went to Southern Illinois in 2017.

This time we watched from my mom's house. Glad it wasn't cloudy because she was really looking forward to it. But I'm like, mom, put your phone down you can text your sisters later. She says we're watching it together. You're not watching anything and they're in Greene County.

Last time I was surrounded by trees. So, this time it looked different and there was the airplane. Indy star has pictures from Bloomington.

99.4% totality.

Your 99.4% sliver looks smaller than my supposed 99.6 percent sliver.

At least we can now turn on the TV without hearing everyone repeat the phrase "Path of Totality". When I first heard it, I thought it was a new Avengers movie. Or maybe Indiana Jones.

Indiana Jones and the Path of Totality.
