  1. I think because basketball seems easy to turnaround because it takes less players that people underestimate how much program momentum and luck play into this. I understand Matta had some health issues the last year or two, but Holtman took over a program that Matta had positioned as a premier program for over a decade. Multiple conference titles, multiple conference tournament titles and multiple Final Fours and Elite 8's. Even with the drop Matta had the last year or two, that momentum and stability matters. Same with Juwan Howard. His transition has been made much more seamless due to

  2. Let's all make a pact. If a regular contributor to the board, like Snowling, publishes an article, or simply an opinion, that everything is not perfect, let's not complain about it being negative. Every regular contributor on here has a right to feel free to post what he/she is thinking. In this case, the article is well-written and contains obvious facts. If someone disagrees with the premise of the thread, feel free to start a thread with a counter-argument about how wonderful our current recruiting is going. If a negative Archie thread is started by an obvious troll, go for it. Ca

  3. How is this another Archie bashing thread? The current state of the program is what it is. I think we all can appreciate what @snowling brings to the board. Im pretty sure the OP only had intentions of bringing the board information on a relevant topic that some may want to read and discuss. Nothing more.

  5. That's kind of the problem. Sure, we all care about the team. But it's hard to be enthusiastic when the product is mediocre. I rarely miss a game. But to pretend the enthusiasm is the same as when we had Vic, Cody, hulls, CWAT ETC? Just not realistic. I am a die hard fan. But over time, the result will dampen/heighten the enthusiasm. Its human nature.

  6. Archie's been terrific - until Kaufman and Furst - if your goal is to recruit the state. But his goal is to win games, and that's why I've been concerned about recruiting pretty much since after his first class. I've read plenty of discussion on this and other sites to explain our struggles, saying the veteran guards just aren't good enough, we lack shooting, we're thin in the frontcourt, etc. Any explanation for why we remain on the bubble that implies our roster isn't good enough, to me points back to recruiting. Landing Romeo was great. Trayce and Lander too. But take a long look at ou

  11. Don't forget his best player to this point in his tenure, Kaleb Wesson. Wesson's brother was already at OSU when Holtman too over and was always going to join his brother there regardless of who the coach was. Wesson fell into Holtman's lap, where conversely Archie inherited an injury prone De'Ron Davis. I don't mean to bash Davis, but those guys are similar, inherited recruits with similar expectations, and one turned into a 1st Team All-Conference guy and one suffered through an injury-riddled career and never really was able to contribute. That alone is huge and had nothing to d

  13. This is a perfectly legitimate discussion topic. If the posts contained within it talk about Archie's poor performance, that's not a problem. When you have the perspective (true or false) that a coach is underperforming, it finds its way into every conversation. I get it, that's frustrating, but this is about as big of a macro-level problem for IUBB as anyone could imagine. We talk for hours about FT shooting and defensive schemes which, in comparison, are child's play in comparison to the behemoth topic of "is our Coach up to the task?" So, at the end of the day, yes - this is a

  20. With the commitment of Malachi Bennett, IU's 2021 class jumped up 9 spots to #54 nationally, and stayed at #12 in the B1G. The commitment took Indiana's average recruit rating up to .8660 (including a punter). Going off of average recruit rating alone, and not taking class size into account, Indiana's class ranks 36th nationally, and 9th in the B1G. Not including James Evans (punter), the class only has one commit rated lower than .8500 in the 247 composite.. Besides the 2019, 2020, and now 2021 classes, every other class in the modern recruiting era for Indiana has had an average re

  26. I’m on central time. The 7 pm starts are annoying for me. That means 6 pm here. I’m rarely home from work by 6 pm. I think the 9 pm starts are designed to cover as much of the country as possible, like a compromise between East all the way to Pacific. Monday Night Football had that 9 pm start back in the day too. When I was a kid, I’d watch Monday Night Football and just try to make it to Howard Cosell’s halftime highlights overlaid on the awesome NFL films video. That was very late for a kid.

  27. For me it goes a little deeper than that. Presumably, we were 'in the game' with Kaufman, though I'm not convinced our position was ever as strong as it was made out to be. But, assuming we were, it's not just that we missed out on him, it's that we don't seem to be 'in the game' with any other high profile recruits. The narrative going forward could be 'Archie has not recently missed out on any high profile recruits, simply because Archie was not ever in the game with any high profile recruits'. Maybe he's okay with that. Maybe he likes the team he has now and thinks he can afford to

I don’t talk smack to my friends when we’re less than stellar but I still love watching as much as possible and following all the content. I love rooting for these guys even when it’s frustrating.

  32. Me either. Even Crean ball was better than this. And that says A TON. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I do NOT want Crean back and was actually kind of excited for Archie and was completely bummed when we got Crean. I’m utterly longterm flabbergasted with IU Hoops.

Just isn’t much of anything to hang my hat on. come on Archie I really like you as a coach but OMG put something together and win some games. Get IU on a upward swing that can be defended by your supporters. 😫

  35. I thought this one was done when I heard his Dad's comments about IU players being taken care of now and down the road. Much like Armaan at same time....I think he's underrated. Should be a very good player for us for years to come.

  36. Oh there's no doubt. CH got a huge break out of the gate when he took over a 17-15 team that had Bates-Diop return from injury to be B1G player of the year. Despite some players leaving, that team still had three other top 100 players plus CJ Jackson, Micah Potter, etc. That was a nice boost to get kick-started. Juwan Howard had the rare opportunity to be handed the keys to a well-oiled machine. By contrast, IU's had key injuries, coaching turnover and several near misses on recruits.

  37. I'm just not a big believer in gimmicks. Comes a time when you have to trust the players you have, nut up, and go mano y mano. I'd actually be less surprised to see Archie show up in a pair of capri pants than I would be if we played zone.
