Dane Fife not returning to Indiana
KoB2011 replied to IUwins0708's topic in General Basketball Discussion
I don't think I'm always right, but I do defend my position pretty vigorously until I am convinced I'm wrong. I actually enjoy when someone convinces me I'm wrong, but I'll try to be more mindful of the tone I use and how it might rub some people the wrong way. -

We can agree to disagree that you are open minded and change your opinion, while I am close minded and don't do that. Anyway, all good man, just please stop with the passive aggressive comments. They get old in a hurry. -

It's not the rest of the board that talks some big game. It's a very specific group of you including you, Billingsley, NCHoosier, Iowa, and maybe a couple others I'm forgetting. You guys talk in these passive aggressive tones all the time and try to act really smart, then keep your panties in a wad when anyone calls you out or disagrees with you - it's a message board, the entire point is we talk and sometimes disagree. I don't agree with @BobSaccamannoon this issue, but he isn't being a passive aggressive child about anything. I've had disagreements with @IUFLA in the past and we DMed to make sure we are all good on things. This is how adults handle things, not getting in passive aggressive jabs every chance they get because they don't know how to have an adult conversation with someone who doesn't fit exactly into their bubble. And to clarify, I'm not attacking you guys. I'm just really tired of the schtick. And to quote you, "everybody sees it man". -

I didn't ask you to validate my point of view at all, I asked you to explain what Woodson did wrong? He is the head coach and he fired a guy that hadn't delivered a recruit, undermined the program, etc. We can have a separate discussion about Woodson and his faults as a coach, but nothing about firing Dane Fife was out of line. I'm not defending Woodson as a perfect coach at all. -

Earned what? The group of you who constantly makes passive aggressive comments does the exact same thing, you guys just whine about everything. You're just like Dakich, you talk this big game but your skin is as tough as tissue paper. -

Right - I made a post with like 25 or so of those quotes and it upset everyone that got quoted and I was told it was pointless to do. This thread would be dead if people would realize Fife got what he deserved. No one is trashing him as a person or wishing anything ill upon him, but he brought this on himself. The only one anyone should be upset with right now is Dane Fife, he let the program down. -

What is there to see wrong? He fired a guy that wasn't a fit. -

Honestly, you and the few others who keep making these type of comments are so freaking tired. Get some new material. I get it, you and your little posse don't like @btownqb and me. The amount of backhanded shots that you all take is beyond childish. Cut the shit with your little passive aggressive comments - just say what you mean so we can all move on. -

What did IU do? Rabjohns isn't IU, he posted something regrettable as a result of the over the top backlash. Rabjohns is very plugged in to what is being said about IU on the internet, it's literally a part of Peegs business. We have someone who has done PR for an NBA team saying there is no way that was leaked or forced by IU. If anything, I'd guess IU and Woody are the reason it got taken down. I don't understand what is absurd about thinking someone who is interacting with people on a message board would react to things being posted on message boards. That actually seems like a very intuitive point more than an absurd one. -
Duke walked on that trap.

Ah missed it, my bad!

I think nailing a top 5 would be hard, because there’s more than 5 great coaches at the moment, but he is in the upper echelon of coaches for sure. Phenomenal coach.

You would put Few over Jay Wright or Roy Williams in that time?

I’ll take your word for that, I’m not going back through the thread a second time. -

It’s not a fairytale. There’s a significant amount of posts saying Rabby should have just said it didn’t work out, I’m just displaying what the sentiment was prior to him giving specifics. The only fairytale is that this situation isn’t Dane Fife’s fault. -

The fact that Rabby’s post happened. Many of the people quoted have claimed they’re mad Rabby posted it and a simple, “it wasn’t working” would have sufficed. Here’s the proof that would have never appeased a lot of people. -

I mean it’s honestly pretty obvious who is based on publicly available information. I don’t really want to take shots at Dane, but you keep kinda forcing everyone to because you’re not thinking straight on this for some reason. -

A collection of some of the posts from before the Rabby post. This is from one IU site that is a little smaller than some others. That’s what forced this. Blame yourselves if you’re mad it happened. -

Fair point. Fife very well may be the single most responsible person for the time since RMK. -

Tough post to take seriously, Bob. Do I need to go quote all of your posts before the Rabby posts? There was no quarter given to Woody by you about this. The hand was forced by you and others because you were taking shots at a guy that is better than Fife in every way; better player, better coach, better person. -

Go back and read what was said in the first few pages of this thread after the firing. Those type of posts are why Rabby posted what he did. If you’re mad it got posted then blame the people that automatically assumed a real IU legend was some hapless, egotistical jack ass. -

What employment law has been violated? He was fired and is being paid his full contract. Based on what we’ve heard I’m not sure he couldn’t have been fired for cause and paid nothing. IU did try to take the high road, IMO. -

But didn’t reasonable minds conclude it was justified? I know my gut reaction was that Woodson must have had a good reason. But many dug in and just couldn’t accept it was justified, so details were provided. Why would Rabjohns saying it was justified without providing detail suffice but it didn’t when Woodson said so? I don’t buy that a single person would have been swayed- the line I believe I’m seeing is that Rabby is just putting out what IU wants. You can’t tell me if he didn’t provide detail you’d have taken that seriously.
