Guess it's just me but Bruce has had a few run ins far deeper than Person....but out of curiosity are you suggesting Zeke was somehow paying players? Guess I'm confused at your analogy.

Pearl's run ins are turning in Illinois for cheating, a BBQ that Aaron Craft and OSU turned him in for, and then having Chuck Person on staff for something Bruce Pearl had no actual connection to.

Zeke got fired and has been sued for sexual harassment.

I'm not saying either is a terrible person, but only one of the two has ever done anything that actually registers one as having questionable morals and it isn't Bruce Pearl.

Buckner is probably telling Dolson, "Partner, you wanna get rid of a stand up individual and IU legend, for some scumbag like Bruce Pearl?"

Lol. Or some nonsense like that.

Yeah.... anyone that thinks Pearl is a scumbag because of association with Person but doesn't think the same about Woodson and Buckner for their friendship with Zeke should probably stop with the moral authority.

I was responding to the notion that NET doesn’t matter much, that it’s based on quad records. If true, MSU is at best a bubble team

St Johns is probably currently out and their quad 1 and 2 record is just as good as MSU

But MSU is seeded below their metrics... The record does matter.

It's not just your metrics or just your record. It's both. MSU being a 9 would reflect that, and so would us missing out on the tournament.

This is a very important distinction in the convo.

Just mearly having your best player be a big doesn't make your team/offense post-dominant or inside-out.

Cody Zeller was the best player on the 2011-13 teams, I don't think anyone would say those teams were post-dominant or inside-out.

Even to use this year as an example, it's often the difference in how Ware scores and how Reneau scores. Not that Ware doesn't get back to the basket touches, but a lot of his damage comes in other ways.

Now when you add his back to the basket touches, and all of Malik's, then it gets pretty ugly in terms of how we play.

So on the whole "play inside-out" thing; when's the last time the National Champion had a post dominant offense?  This is an actual question not some sorta smart @$$ gotcha question.

2009 UNC if you consider that post dominant with Hansbrough, but that team got up and down and their three next highest usage guys were guards that could shoot the hell out of the basketball.

I don't think he is being a yes man at the moment.  There is very clearly a power struggle going on and Dolson/the AD opened fire last night by releasing the media and getting in front of the narrative.  The leak of the contract change, everything Rabjohns posted, that is all coming from the AD.  Dolson is playing politics right now and he has a bit of a propaganda leg up on Quinn in that his people are in contact with these recruiting sites and media members far more often than Quinn would be w.r.t. IU athletics.

A yes man would be putting out stuff to support Woodson.  It is clear that someone at Indiana (most likely Dolson's department) chose war.

Did they open fire last night or was it a warning shot? We don't really know that part.

Nothing gets leaked unless a certain someone wants it to be. Press has been used as stool pigeons since the beginning of time.

100% agree with you on this. Things getting leaked means someone wants them leaked.

Everyone can draw their own conclusion about who wants things leaked and why....

i can't wait either because it will mean he was fired.  ain't no way the result is us keeping him, next year making us all happy and this thread going away.  i'm not sure anyone would bet on that outcome.

Maaaaan even @IUFLA said he needed 10:1 odds to bet on us making the tournament next year. Not a single person on this board actually is confident next year gets better.

So if I am reading all of this correct, either Chris on BTB or Trilly are the main source for every one of these rumors? So one is getting their information from the other or they are getting their info from the same person? I say this because they've both been basically saying the same things at the same time. And if all this Buckner stuff is true, then Dolson and the President need to get together and say, sorry Quinn, we hired Scott to make these decisions. I might be a simpleton here, but that doesn't seem like that would be "out of line".

The issue is the BoT is above the AD and President, and Quinn "7 threes in 8 years" Buckner is the President of the BoT. And he apparently doesn't see an issue playing inside-out, at least not if the option to do otherwise involves firing his buddy.

Most incompetent administration in the history of college athletics.  I've said it for decades.

I've seen people use the Alabama football comparison before Saban for us....

Well Saban only took the job because the admin/boosters got told to shut the hell up and stay out of his way. That's what we need.

Indirectly, this actually gets at why I've been okay with Woodson potentially getting a year 4.

He's had two seasons of college basketball experience, and in both years it was easy to craft the narrative things were moving in the right direction. We got back to the tournament for the first time in five years. We followed that up by finishing second in the Big Ten and getting a four seed in the Tournament. In the last 30 years, back to when Knight was coaching Cheaney, only the '13 team had been seeded higher. Recruiting seemed promising, we were in on and landing five star talents. It would have been easy for Woodson to believe he was a successful college coach and had things rolling in the right direction.

This season all the cracks in the foundation were laid bare. Our struggles have exposed all the ways in which we don't play efficient basketball, and make the game harder for ourselves based on what we do and don't prioritize. There are certain skills missing from this year's roster, and our talent elsewhere wasn't enough to compensate.

All these issues can potentially be addressed in one offseaon. The portal allows Woodson to balance out the roster in a way that wasn't done last spring. Another year of experience at this level could make Woodson comfortable with players who won't play in the NBA, but can contribute to winning at the college level. If you want to play inside-out, go get playmakers and shooters to complement your frontcourt.

Lots of lessons to be learned from this season, for a coach who's willing to self-reflect. Is Woodson that guy? I think there's still a chance. There's an urgency and a need to do so now that wasn't present after his first two seasons. I'm okay with a year 4 because I want to see how Woodson responds to failure. If he truly can't recognize the ways in which he failed, then we have our answer. Maybe Dolson is already having those conversations, and knows a change of direction is needed. That's fine too. But as a fan on the outside, my response to a season like this isn't that it's a fireable offense; the fireable offense is allowing it to ever happen again.

You should check out why he got fired from the Knicks and listen to some of Woodson's press clippings if you think he's going to change.

That Trilly guy saying it was Buckner who hired Archie too.  Wasn't Fred's choice. He was overruled.😢

    Buckner has to go immediately.

I've had one personal interaction with Buckner in my life and it was back when Crean was coach. I will just say I am not surprised at all he is making his opinion known and forcing his will, based on things he said to a random 20 something back then.

To be fair to Mike Woodson, that one line requires quite a bit more context.

Does he mean through the post, or does he mean with guards and wings getting to the rim, sucking in the defense, etc.

Paint touches are always going to be important in basketball, just depends on how you get them.

Unfortunately, I think Woodson means playing through the post.

I wouldn't call guards getting into the paint off of dribble penetration inside out personally.

f you retain Woody you almost have to extend him because you can’t let him recruit with only 2 years left on his contract. This whole situation is a mess. Just pull the plug now.

Exactly. Have to have a long term solution or recruiting becomes even harder.

If he is coming back you almost have to extend him. Anyone arguing he should be extended?
