I had read the same info as mentioned and summarized like this:

Skipping recruiting days over the last 3 years.

Recruits hearing from other HC more than Woodson.

Needs major help from the portal to overhaul a roster.

Choosing to pursue "ready-made" players instead of recruiting and developing HS kids

Woodson publicly stating 2 point shots are good while having one of the worst 3 point rates 3 years in a row.

HS, AAU, and other coaches/trainers have heard very little from a certain HC over the course of 3 years.

It's March of year 3. It took until Feb. for Woodson to go see Sisley and Mullins, two of the top in-state prospects and he didn't see Mullins in a game until the sectional semifinals.

Told Boogie Fland "Boogie, again, I cannot promise you minutes because I am anticipating that Xavier Johnson may be getting a seventh year..."

I am literally just reposting what was posted on BTB and based on what Rabby has been posting.

The X thing cannot be true. Like I just cannot fathom that.

I don't care if the Pope grants him a 7th year he better not be at IU next year. Holy cow.

What odds do I get? :)

A lot of variables...Don't know who we'll have on the roster...But let's just say if we have a nucleus of Reneau, Mgbako, and Cupps, I feel good about our chances...I'll be excited to see 2 shooters like McNeely and Mgbako out there...

    LOL...I burned $20 to prove the experience stuff...Hell yeah...at 10-1 I'd put $100 down ;)

You would need 10:1 odds on us making the tournament and you think that's an argument for keeping the coach?!?

Interesting take...Pearl didn't have any real success at Auburn until around 2017...Here's that roster...

    image.png.bc2e1feb3b7e4744ff48aec89da123ec.png

He went from having 1 RSCI top 100 kid to 5...and his top 3 players were all freshman...

So I wonder...What would be the allure of playing basketball at Auburn? History? No...The Cliff Ellis years were ok, but other than that, nothing...

OH! Maybe Pearl met them in "Person?" ;)

Pearl got hired in March of 2014, couldn't recruit for 5 more months. So that 2015 roster is hard to put on him.

Because he couldn't recruit until a month before signing day, kinda hard to expect him to land many freshman that would be able to play in 2016.

So it stands to reason the first time he'd have any semblance of talent would be Year 3, in 2017....

I truly think that Woody wanted to delegate tasks, similar to how you would in the NBA - thinking it'd be more efficient. I don't think it was laziness....maybe naive, but not lazy.

Let's just assume this is true for a moment....

It underscores the problem with the entire experiment in the first place. We hired an unsuccessful, life-long NBA coach that had no clue about the college game because one of his buddies is President of the BoT, who also has no relevant college basketball experience.

Disagree with that...I don't think Timberlake makes much of a difference for us this year...

Not much to say Timberlake over Gunn...

    image.thumb.png.001b93815828bc4bbdca06ced66ed81d.png

Haven't watched enough of Kansas to see Timberlake on the defensive end, but I'm not sure Timberlake is a better defender...He's definitely struggled from distance against better competition...

Now Knecht is a different story...But he opted to go elsewhere...it happens...

Why do you think IU couldn't pull in more impactful players? Is it something wrong with IU or something wrong with how they were pitched? Or did we just not cast a wide enough net? Something else?

I can understand that, but then.. win... and you don't have to deal with people wondering...

My issue is that the only name floated. Why? There were 4 billion people in the transfer portal. And yes NT would have helped us plenty, he gets mins on a Top 10 basketball team. Timberlake > Gunn by A LOT.... you go get NT, and another PG for depth.. and this season looks a lot different.

Caleb Love got floated and was apparently ours to lose, then somehow the two butted heads on something and he isn't here. If it had anything to do with play style, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Caleb Love was right about now liking what he heard.

  7. Just to put a little context on what Pearl took over at Auburn....

In the 10 seasons prior to Auburn hiring Pearl, Auburn had two winning seasons.

They were 23 games below .500 in those 10 seasons.

They had been top 100 in KenPom twice in those 10 seasons, with their best season being 59 (we were 44 in Tom Crean's last season for a reference point)

Bruce Pearl has had that program top 11 at some point in 6 of the past 7 seasons. He took them to a Final Four and probably should have won a title that year if not for two 1975 level bad breaks. This is on top of what he did at UT, Milwaukee, and USI. He isn't my top choice, but there is absolutely zero question he would at a minimum match Crean's level of success with more consistency.

Dusty to OSU would suck. I'm not so sure that if he has success at OSU he'd leave to come here.

I wouldn't mind him taking another job to see how he does somewhere that's a step up from FAU, but I think OSU is a good enough job to the point where we may not be able to poach him in the future.

It would be very hard to poach a coach from OSU.

    He's freaking right though!!

If Woodson dumps one of Gunn or Banks (think what Crean did finding Nick Zeisloft)---- fills the empty scholly with a guard of some sort---just for freaking depth and so we didn't have to run Cupps through the wringer as a FR...

Our season could have been a lot different. Orrrrr... just developed Banks as a 4, not taken Walker's transfer, and filled that spot with a wing.

But I'm telling you right now--- the optics are that the staff was lazy and decided to sit on their hands. Again, the optics.

Exactly! And this roster is far from devoid of talent. A few tweaks to the roster, a few tweaks to the style of play, and this team is squarely in the talk for a decent seed. This staff completed failed.

If anyone subscribes to KenPom (I don't anymore) they could settle this by looking at the age (or experience category can't remember the name) that weighs the experience by minutes played and ranks the teams.

We are at 1.66 and the average is 1.83. But we also have more talent than the average....

Im going to come up with a recording device that records the game from beginning to end not the time slot...i mean do you have to be Darby O'Gill just to get a full game to record...?

YouTube TV does this I'm pretty sure.

  12. Purdue is going to finish top ten for the third straight year, has made 9 straight tournaments, will finish top 15 for the 7th time in 9 years (Bob Knight never had more than 5 top 15 in 9 years, won their 4th conference title in 8 years, and will have back to back NPOY.

They currently have a program as good as any in the country, and we have one of the worst in the Big Ten in that same stretch. We should probably stop with the smack talk until we get our house in order.

EDIT: and despite the two first round exits, Purdue has made the S16 or better in four of the last six tournaments.

    Yeah...

How many times do I have to read "we're gonna lose out" or "we're gonna get beat by double digits" before I'm convinced you're the former in your first sentence?

No, we're not "great." No one said we are. But we're not "terrible" either...

Let me ask you this since you're so hung up on Xavier Johnson...Do you think we win the game with Cupps getting XJ's minutes today?

I mean, I guess we can argue about what is terrible, but we are still going to likely finish below .500 in a bad Big Ten and finish in all the metrics as one of the worst teams at IU in 50+ seasons.

So terrible for IU at a minimum.

  14. Missed the last four minutes because I had a tee time with my daughter, but great second half!

Maybe this team can enter the BTT on a 4 game win streak and raise some hell for the top seeds. Would love to see all these guys finish out the Year strong.

So as we can reflect I’d say most of us would agree that in hindsight BOTH Crean AND Miller had a higher upside and more potential to have success here and we followed them both up with a LESS qualified candidate with LESS of a potential to succeed.

If Quinn is responsible the guy should be banned for a year from all things IU. Put his butt in a timeout

Can Benson get his old teammate Quinn some access at Purdue? Asking for a friend.
