Fife chopped his own legs off. In this world...between a blend of sports and academia he went down the wrong path. Just my 2 cents.

He'd be better off finding a deep bench gig or even a smaller school position and start his career path all over.

Yeah, I don't buy that it was a hit job. There's a reason Dane hasn't landed another job.

If he wants to get back into coaching, it needs to start at a small school like you suggest.

Cool! Appreciate the follow up. I know nothing at all. However I would say this. The very people who know so much might be part of the problem the last 2 decades. We have to be the only fanbase in the country that worries about attending high school sectionals. Of course one or 6 of the tribe will come along and say ahh yes. The fans fault. I will offer this. Doing it the same way over and over again?

PS...if Woody is still here. Both Sisley and Mullins are Hoosiers. I'll also add JH to the list but the great part about this board is able to have differing opinions right....even if one side of the teeter totter is a bit heavy.

When did we grow to a tribe? I thought we were musketeers? :coffee:

I know others have responded with fun names from IU's recent past, but their inclusion brings up an interesting point: who's opinion matters most, and how much of that is dictated by their on-court performance?

This program has a LOT of former players, and not everyone knows (let alone like) one another. To cherrypick "some" is quite arbitrary and causes a slippery slope.

I can list a myriad of different players who have accomplished wildly different things; what makes their opinions matter more than someone else's?

Marco Killingsworth likely carries favor with most IU fans, although his time in Bloomington was short. Does his opinion matter more than Verdell Jones, who played 4 years? We all love Calbert, but he never played for a National Championship like AJ Moye did.

    Just food for thought.

I think the most important opinion is Devan Dumes. Are you gonna look him in the eye and tell him his opinion doesn't matter?

I know I'm sure not going to tell him that.

Her WNBA salary is only like 78,000. That’s the max for all of them…most can’t even afford a house in the city they live…so she will have to earn money any way she can.

The max in the WNBA is $235k, but still, thats not a lot for an athlete. Lots of those ladies could earn more doing something besides basketball.

According tot he Fever its in 45 days  now. The Fever will become the new team for anyone that has followed CC closely and for many within a 6 to 8 hour drive I would think. How many daughters in cities like St louis, CIncy louisville Kansas City etc are going to want to become Fever fans and begging Mom and Dad to take them to see the Fever. This is huge for the franchise, like her or not the Fever will have the most popular WNBA player in the league.

I am pumped about it. I have never been a fan of hers but I have three daughters and I am thrilled they'll have a huge woman star in their city.

So he's being given another year?

I have a job that is very performance based and people end up on the chopping block frequently. I would not interpret the fact the fact that he is going to the game tonight as he is being retained.

For all we know, Dolson may have said to get another year he has to make the NIT this year AND have traction towards improvement next year by way of recruiting.

It's not but if you think it's not a big deal than you're just wrong. It's a really bad look for an already sinking ship

That's the thing to me, maybe if we were rolling like Purdue he could get away with it (although Painter was there).

But when things are going poorly, there are questions about your future and the teams future, and you just don't show up? People have bad stretches in any career, but how they respond is very telling and impacts how their employment is treated. Mike Woodson's response to this season has been awful and it somehow keeps getting worse with the lack of accountability and the lack of action taken to fix it.

Archie wasn’t a unanimous favorite when he was hired either. Though a lot of ppl wanted him. I remember debating ppl on here and elsewhere that Archie isn’t in my top 5 candidates. His offensive system was bad imo. Slow and low scoring, reminding me of Bennett in a way but not as bad. And his defense gave up the 3 a lot. As we see still that doesn’t work in the modern game. I rooted for Archie to do well but he was in over his head and you could tell by his body language at his announcement. And then they got torched by Ft Wayne.

May is different bc he can coach offense and putting the ball in the hoop is the hardest thing to do. The big question about May, is his defense. I think he has to bring a defensive specialist in to help him grow in that area to be successful at IU. If not he will end up being some version of Fran McCaffery at Iowa. Minus the explosive personality that we all laugh at Fran for.

So I'm not one that thinks we should hire May and I think the version of Fran at Iowa is a good comp, but isn't Fran at Iowa with IU resources Tom Crean?

So if may could find a bit more consistency than Crean that would likely be a really good tenure, yeah?

Nah. If Woodsons fate depends on the last three remaining games then he wasn’t really in any jeopardy of being canned to begin with.

Dolson is no dummy. The negative effects would kill the program the minute we started losing games.

    Woodson is out.

Yeah, even if this meeting (and others) happened it's just getting ducks in a row. It's a necessary part of the process, and theoretically Dolson should be meeting with all his coaches on a regular basis anyway.

Do y'all not have 1:1 meetings with your boss once a week? This is normal.

Nope! But Painter knows that the IU social media crowd will get ticked so he's taking full advantage of it. It's an easy play by him but at the end of the day it actually means nothing.

So Painter went to the game just to troll IU? Like you think he took time away from his team competing for a national title and the only real benefit was trolling IU?

Maybe it's recency bias, but the toxicity surrounding this coaching staff seems to be worse than what surrounded Crean and Archie in the weeks leading up to their firing.

It does seem that way. I personally think the two biggest factors there is the way the admin handled the original hiring, and the way the coaching staff has handled anyone so much as questioning their approach.

if he stays and he and the staff have not been out this week to see Sisley or Mullins then the whole situation is far worse than I thought. I just dont see how they bring him back.

    This.

Let's say that it's still an open question on if he'll be back.... and then he is not doing recruiting and trying everything he can to turn this around. That's a pretty big mark against bringing him back if he can't even bother to recruit when things are this bad.

I mean he had to know he had 4 fouls when he decided to foul a guy the bench was saying to foul.  It just drives me crazy that every foul he gets feels like a personal attack to him.  He is flabbergasted. Astounded even.  Amazed and surprised at the same time.  In total shock.  Taken aback even.  Dumbfounded, rendered speechless, stunned and even staggered by the shear audacity of the call against him.  i think X teaches a class at IU on how to whine, complain and cry when a foul is called.

And the vast majority of his fouls are easy calls, yet he still acts that way.

Dude was about in tears... And yes he looked like he was telling the coaches " you told me to foul "

The coaches were saying to foul, they just didn't mean Malik.

It was smart to use the fouls we had, Malik just has to not be stupid and realize he has four fouls.

  15. Really gutsy effort. Gave up the lead a couple times and kept fighting.

Loved Woody going offense/defense subs late.

Just happy for all the guys (coaches and players) to get something to enjoy for their hard work. Who knows, maybe they can string together the next three and change the narrative a bit.
