Bracketology 2021-2022
HoosierDPU95 replied to southsidehoosier's topic in General Basketball Discussion
I hear all that for sure. I'm not saying we can't make an argument as to why we should have Michigan's seed and they have ours. I'm just responding to the "we were completely shafted", "the world is against IU", "they have disrespected us" kind of comments. You could make an argument for any of the last 8 teams that got in and probably the first 2 that didn't to take any of the 11-12 seeds. I'm just thankful we got one of those 8 spots. -

How a team has played recently has always been a big factor for the selection committee. By recently I mean since February not just the handful of conference tournament games. Before tournament play, we were 2-7 in February and March. Michigan was 7-5. Our two wins were against Maryland and Minnesota. 5 of Michigan's 7 wins were against tournament teams. Look, I hate Michigan almost as much as I hate Purdue but this overinflated view of what IU "deserved" is just silly. I just read a comment on instagram sayin "they are disrespecting our name by making us play in the first four". Really?!?! Perhaps the product that we've put on the court in previous years since 2016 is what has "disrespected our name". After a pathetically weak non-conference schedule and an atrocious February (including the Windy City 5 mess). This team rallied enough to squeak into the tournament. How anyone can complain about that is beyond me. I'm sure Xavier, Texas A&M, and countless other schools would love to be as "disrespected" as IU right now. Win or Lose on Tuesday this team got over the hump and made the NCAA tournament after missing the last 5 years. Nothing can take that away from them. -

We lost 7 of our last 9 games prior to the BTT. I love IU as much as the next guy but this complaining about getting in and Michigan (who throttled us at home) getting a better seed just makes me laugh. -

Michigan's seed tells you that strength of schedule is a really important component. The sooner we beef up our non-conference schedule the better for lots of reasons. -

Less than 2 weeks ago after losing at home to Rutgers we were all lamenting most likely missing the tournament. We then lost to PU which almost cemented that outcome. Now we're bitching about being in but in a play-in game. I'll take it! -

I've seen several projections that have us playing Michigan or Rutgers in Dayton. Please tell me the selection committee wouldn't do something like that. I really want to see how we do against another conference. -
Scored 77 point while going 5/19 from 3. Man, if we could just hit open looks. Great effort though. Left it all on the court.

Actually, I think the "sad truth" is that if the Windy City 5 would have followed the rules and we executed down the stretch in 1 or 2 games we'd be sitting here discussing what our seed will be instead of how the stars all have to align for us to just get in. -

The staff should have game film from all the wide open looks we miss and showing those to recruits saying "When I get you these shots, you'll be All BigTen" -
Our shooters get tight durning the starting lineup intros IMO.

IU Basketball 2021-2022 Season Thread
HoosierDPU95 replied to btownqb's topic in General Basketball Discussion
For all intents and purposes, I'm considering this season over with last night's loss. I don't consider myself apathetic, I just don't see anything meaningful happening baring some miracle(s) (beating PU on Saturday or a deep run in the BigTen tourney). I went into this season with 3 goals, show improvement (which I think we did), snap the PU streak (which we did), and make the tourney (which we most likely won't). The formula for beating IU the past several years has been simple. Teams force us to beat them from behind the arc. Archie brought in Stewart and Woody brought in Kopp to help address this and it just didn't pan out. Looking back through all our losses and outside of UM, UI and the Chicago 5 NW debacle, the other games could have easily gone our way had 1 or 2 3's fallen. There's a lot of grumbling about substitution patterns and this and that but I really think it comes down to our consistent lack of shooters. We occasionally have games where guys "go-off" behind the arc but look at the teams in front of us. They occasionally have games where guys are "off" behind the arc. The 3-ball has been the "great equalizer" in basketball for decades now, how Archie failed to recognize this and recruit guys accordingly is beyond me. I think our current staff understands this and are working to rectify that. After Crean, I love that both Archie and Woody have emphasized defense first but I think Archie did it to a fault when it came to recruiting. I've always felt you can coach up guys at this level to play defense but you can't turn someone into a Hulls-like shooter. Sure guys can become better shooters over time but not to the point where they are at the "if you leave him open you're gonna pay for it" level. Just my $0.02 -
I would certainly take the guards/wings from every team ahead of us.

Yup. He can only put them in position. Can't make the ball go in.

I should be more frustrated but I'm just not surprised. 😐

It's probably been posted here before but I find the Bracket Matrix to be super informative about who we're battling against for a bid. http://bracketmatrix.com/ -
I have no idea how this game will play out. They have lost 3 in a row, we are on a 2-game winning streak. One would think that Sr. Night plus the tournament implications would be huge motivation for a team but then I remember the 2013 Sr. Night game where we $#@_ the bed against OSU and had that cringy banner hanging afterwards. Will all of this focus the team to dominate and win or will they crumble under the pressure? Hoping for the former but concerned about the later. Let's get over the hump Hoosiers!!!

I spent many years lurking on the Peegs boards and finally got fed up with all the negativity and constant rumors like this. Glad I found you guys (thanks to @IU Scott). HSN is the place to be! -
