  1. Same. If X plays there a glimmer of hope but if he's out again I don't see how we could possibly pull this one off
  2. Exactly. I would call my 23 year old self a kid and that was 25 years ago. If it makes everyone feel better we can call them "young adults" but the point is still the they are immature and do stupid stuff.
  3. Before last night I was hopeful for this season and feeling positive about the direction of the program. After last night, I'm no longer hopeful for the season (I don't see this team recovering enough from this to win enough games to get us into the tournament) but am feeling even more positive about the direction of the program under this staff. I was not planning on getting on the board today because I knew it would be full of "this kind of stuff shouldn't happen at IU" and "you never saw this under Knight" talk but I got sucked in just the same. This kind of stuff happens everywhere in college sports regardless of the team, coach, conference, division, etc. They are college kids and college kids do stupid things. Some coaches/programs turn a blind eye for the sake of winning (i.e. the coaches are motivated by trying to keep their job). I think the actions taken by our staff speak volumes here ultimately saying one win (and probably tournament bid) do not mean more to them than developing the character of these kids (teaching them to do less stupid things so they will be set up to better succeed in life). As a parent, that is the kind of staff I would want my kids to play for. On the other side of that, fans ultimate really just care about the success of a program. We get upset about these kind of things mostly because it will impact how many games we win. If Sampson would have hung banner number 6, no one would be saying "I don't count that one because the kids smoked weed, missed curfew and cut class". If Crean would have hung banner number 6, no one would be saying "I don't count that one because he's a whack job that none of the Indiana high school coaches like". Instead, we would be throwing that banner in the face of the Purdue, Illinois, Kentucky fans and be looking for number 7. When programs are not winning, this "well, at least we do things the right way" mantra permeates a fanbase to make us feel better about not winning. Yes, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed by players/teams/coaches. I'm not advocating that fans have a "win at whatever the cost" mentality (although some do), I'm saying that when your team is winning, you have a whole lot more grace towards college kids doing stupid things. We tout Knight's teams as "doing things the right way" not so much because we have all this evidence that those players didn't do stupid things (just imagine if social media was a thing in the 70's and 80's) but more so because they won a ton.
  4. They are stuck with him for at least one more season. He's one of their own and was self-appointed by Ol' Roy. That being said they will not give him an Archie-sized leash. The only thing that could shrink his leash would be if they are 100% sure they could make a Brad Stevens-level hire (and their Alumni base is pushing for just that). As someone who lives in Raleigh, I find it soooo satisfying watching them suck like this. It's too bad the ACC is all-around bad this year otherwise they'd be scraping the bottom of the standings
  5. I had one goa for this season.and that was to make the freaking tournament. Goal is still alive.
  6. Just don't watch today's Baylor game. Yikes. I agree with this 100%. Give me a solid big to rebound and defend the rim with an offense who's primary options are the guards and wings. I don't want to have to bank on my big getting me 18 and 10 in order to win.
  7. A 4 without a jumper doesn't get to the league. Right now he's a college 5 and sadly I'm starting to think that's his ceiling.
  8. Bingo! Same $&#@ different day. Until we can have some consistent threat from 3 we will continue to lose these kind of games.
  9. I think the NCAA (as well as the media for sure) actually likes having controversy around all of it. Continuous, heated debates for months prior to selection Sunday. It's all part of the "madness" baby!
  10. Man I would have loved to see Troy under this staff. Crean's "just do your thing and get as many possessions as possible" approach didn't do players like Troy any favors IMO.
  11. @dgambill brought up X needing to stay out of foul trouble so it just made me think we are 3 early fouls away from playing a large junk of that game without a point guard. Extra time for KL to heal/work into the rotation is all.
  12. A small part of me is thinking this would be a nice time for us to get one of those "COVID Postponements"
  13. But we are talking about Big10 refs here so nothing is surprising
  14. For sure. Don't disagree with that. Here's to hoping Galloway develops his outside shot.
  15. I'm not a coach nor do I have insight into the staff's strategy but it's pretty clear to me that the prime directive for the starting five is to run the offense through the paint, specifically through Trayce. I guess you could argue if that strategy is wrong but I for one don't think it is. He is far and away our best player and we should be getting him every possible opportunity to score. Kopp and Stewart are out there to keep defenses from just collapsing (see every game last year for film study). I would argue that replacing one of those guys would only add one more defender who would be collapsing into the paint. Now, do we have a tendency to get too deep into the shot clock before we look for a second option? Yes.
  16. 💯 Motion offense in basketball = Triple option in football. In today's game, programs that run these do so because they have to overcome a lack of talent. As a result it is difficult to recruit more talent because kids with NBA aspirations don't want to play in those kinds of systems. I see our staff running a system that will be attractive to higher-level talent. We just don't currently have a full compliment of players to execute that offense at a high/elite level. I too have been frustrated with our offense at times this year but then think back to the offense Archie and company ran (I don't even know what to call that other than "offensive") and feel much better about the direction we're heading.
  17. Unlike the last several years, I have complete confidence that this will be a "teaching moment" leveraged by the coaches
  18. Game adjustments, officiating, starting five, you name it.. None of that was going to matter today. We were hungover from Thursday and they are a super talented team fighting to make up ground. I wasn't surprised to see it and honestly I'm not that upset about it. It's not apathy like I had last year, it's knowing that our staff will use this to teach them.
  19. Sorry if this has been asked/answered previously but are they planning on making up the games postponed because of COVID?
  20. or constantly alternate between pulling up their pants and clapping
  21. Woodson was asked about this (playing Durr and Trayce together) in his pre-game presser and he gave an emphatic "no way". Basically said there was no scenario he could imagine where that would be necessary or wanted.
  22. Anyone else in the middle of watching the mass celebration on the floor after the game think "Oh @#$% the team is going to get COVID" or was it just me? I immediately pushed it out of my mind and thought "It's been 320 days since PU beat IU" and have just been holding on to that happy thought
