Whether we want to appreciate it or not, him being one of I believe 13 African-American D1 basketball coaches I think will help with him sticking out given a majority of major recruits are of the same ethnicity.
Possible but i'm not sure that will make much of a difference. While Juwan has a great class coming in I think that has more to do with his NBA ties, so if anything helps coach Woodson with recruiting it will be his NBA ties not race. There might be a few recruits that it helps get him in the door but I think that would be a low number.

What players in the transfer portal (not including IU players) would be great additions?
Carr and Mashburn would be good ones to try and get, depending on who we lose.

I’m behind the Mike Woodson hire now. He brings a lot to the table. My biggest concern with this hire from the beginning is that hiring an Indiana guy is great if it works, but at the end of the day, you still have to win.
So if for some reason this doesn’t work, IU could be thought of as a place you don’t want to coach.I have also said and still believe that schools tend to hold on to their own longer than an outsider if things aren’t going well. So even if we are mediocre, it could be a long hall, because everyone likes coach Woodson and all the ties to the program, Bobby and his players.
I liked what I’ve heard so far and have changed my mind since the dust has settled. I’m just stating some things that some may not have thought of if it doesn’t work out.Yeah no matter what side of the fence a person sits on with this hire, liking it of not liking it, we have to have this work out. If say in four years this looks like it might not work out we are in big trouble. If one of our own can't get it turned around I don't see any other top flight coach taking a chance to come here and do it. So lets hope Coach Woodson gets this going and is successful.

Who has said this? I saw Sea,Turtle mention it, but he was a way of dropping negative IU comments discreetly.....so I didn't think much of it.
Yeah I haven't seen it anywhere other then him mentioning it, so I wouldn't put much faith in it.

IU basketball alums ‘giddy’ about hire of Mike Woodson

Hopefully they are still giddy in three or four years, since it sounds like this hire was done to appease most of them.
While I didn't like this hire, if we are in the middle of the next B1G season and go on a six or seven game winning streak it would be one of the happiest times I have ever admitted to being wrong.

Nuggets are going to make a run I feel. Eventually someone will slay the giant. I think they may get over the top finally.
It would be pretty nice to see.

Wondering how the Nets super team is going to work out. Nba is so crazy.
You can pretty much book a Lakers Nets finals. If healthy you can for the next couple of seasons.

Yeah gotta wonder who is pulling those late night film sessions, scouting, and cross country recruiting trips. I mean will our guys even be awake for those 9 o’clock BTN tips??
Might have to work with the big ten to get only noon games lol.
Also before I get called out for being a horrible fan this is just joking around and having fun.

I mean might as well hire Beilein as well and rename Assembly Hall...Centrum Silver Stadium. If we want an 80 year old consultant why not just bring back Coach Knight??
We definitely need to keep Hunter for recruiting. These old guys while great for their knowledge aren't going to be out there grinding it out on the recruiting trail.

What does going on social media and ripping the hire for everyone to see help the program
So we should all just be sheep and agree with everything on here? I doubt if anything being said on these forums has any affect on the IU program.

Never said it was a great or home run hire but going to give him my support
So far everyone that I have seen that didn't like it or was lukewarm towards the hire still said they would give him and IU their support and hopes that he works out.

Do what you want but why not go in with an open mind and not judge a hire before game one had been played
Everyone that thinks he is going to be great is judging the hire just as much as the ones that don't. They think he is going to be great and the others don't, both sides are the same but just disagree with the outcome.

I don't see what beong negative helps in any way where getting behind the coach and the program can only help
I've had to repeat this countless times in this thread, but just because someone doesn't like this hire means they are negative, it's just as simple as they would have preferred someone else. Also from what I can see everyone is still behind IU and support them and wants Coach Woodson to win.
There are a few that might not be, but it pretty much seems clear to me that everyone wants him to succeed.

Lists of things I fans want/don't want in a coach
IU guy
Winner
Xs and Os guy
Will lock down the state in recruiting
Has connections to IN HS coaches
Values education
Not a mid major coach
Assemble an excellent staff
will relate to the old school IU teams
"new" style of offense
..... Mike Woodson has the potential to check everyone of these boxes.
While I didn't like the hire and still lukewarm about it, hopefully he checks all these boxes and gets us back to winning.
It would be the first time I am happy about being wrong lol.

One thing I hope Coach Woodson does is get someone to work with our bigs shooting, or bring in a big from the portal that can hit an outside shot. It would be nice to not see a clogged lane all time.

Definitely will. Hopefully Galloway and Lander spend a lot of time in the gym shooting the three.

THANK YOU GOD!!!! HE IS TALKING ABOUT SHOOTING THE 3 BALL!!!!
If you are open, let it fly baby. Play "good" AAU ball. That's all it is. Move it, move it, move it and flick it. Cut and screen for each other, it isn't the most complicated thing in the world.
I see Leal getting a lot of playing time since he has the most potential as a 3 point shooter.

I’m not going to presume to tell anyone else how to feel. However, I suspect most people are in the same camp as me, which is to say he was not my first choice. But, I don’t want to be in a position where I’m negative on the team. So, I’m going to support him and hope our play skyrockets. Hopefully we see immediate results in terms of keeping our current players, getting an incredible staff, recruiting, and winning big. Let’s get the frustrations behind us and win big.
Very good post 👍

Scott Dolson was at the bar, went right for the hottest girl there, got rejected then went straight for the drunk fat chick.
While I'm not the biggest fan of this hire, this is a little over the top and not needed.

You say not everyone but there are plenty and it's pretty easy to figure out who they are when you see the same names over and over just ripping into IU. If you're criticizing a new coach when the ink isn't dry on their contract and they haven't held their introduction yet, let alone not having coached game one, then I think loser is the most accurate label. If that touches a nerve, so be it. It may be time for self-reflection.
We talk about IU needing to change. Maybe the fanbase needs to change. Maybe we don't need those who never have anything good to say about IU basketball and those who appear to be rooting against the program. If it looks like he can't get it done as we go through the season, there's time to criticize. But right now is not that time. Mike Woodson will rise or fall based on his performance but for today he's earned the right to have full fan support.
With all the anger you have, i think you might be the one that needs self-reflection. Constantly calling people losers just screams someone with issues.
Also it just seems hard for you to understand that not every one disliking this hire is rooting against IU, they just don't like this hire. I will be cheering for IU every game and hoping for Coach Woodson to get us back on top.

Agree about fit. I think part of Archies failure at IU was just this...he didn't seem to ever be comfortable as head coach in Bloomington. That and my belief that he was stubborn to change what was clearly not working. I do think some of the other coaches would have been better choices for the job, but it's done now...so just hoping for the best.
I don't know if it's just me but Archie just never seemed to be excited about coaching IU. That is one of the positives about Coach Woodson, he does seem to be excited about it.

Not to speak for Euroclydon, but there are some who go beyond expressing dissatisfaction, and I am interpreting the post as a reference to those who are senselessly bashing in an over-the-top manner.
You might be right, it just didn't come across that way in his post. 👍

What's ridiculous is the collection of those who bash IU at every turn. It wouldn't matter who they hired. There are some who's only goal is to criticize IU and you can see the same names pop up in every topic to do nothing more than rip the program. They are not fans.
Not everyone that is dissatisfied with this hire bashes IU with every post. You used a pretty broad stroke in your post. Using the insult losers quite often.
