  1. 6A - There are three other teams that need to be mentioned.  Ben Davis really came on late in the year.  Carmel will always be in the mix.  And Warren was really young last year and added a new coach in Kirchner who is outstanding.

Valpo, I think they lose a couple of key pieces but I don’t know if anyone can touch Cathedral.

Depending on how good Matthews is, Whop leaving could be minimized.

Swann mentioned a few days ago that it was time to get back to work.  A lot of people took it to mean that he was coming back.

I saw that Harris kid who was transferring from Colorado ended up at Arizona.  Not sure who else is out there, but it wouldn't surprise me to get another transfer or two.

I've been shouting about Da'Shaun Brown for 2 years now as the next guy to breakout.  He got hurt on a punt this year and missed the rest of the season.  Still looking for him to breakout eventually, but I'm not as optimistic on it as I used to be.  I think next year will be tough for people to breakout with how few people we'll lose.  Maybe Damarjhe Lewis?  He was said to be pretty impressive in the little time we had last spring.  Not sure if he even got on the field this year though.

I guess I have a very mild concern along sort of the same lines.  One can never put a price on experience especially when dealing with good people.  But I'm not a huge Whop fan (that's not a dislike) and I'd love to see guys like Mathews and Hewitt, etc more playing time so they can further develop.  We're going to need those guys down the road and they need playing time.  I'll take the experienced guys who want to come back don't get me wrong.  But we have some really talented young guys who need to play and I think they can step in and replace Whop without us missing a beat.  Maybe I'm crazy??

And there is the possibility that it had become clear that IU's interest had waned and it sounded better to dad if that's the story he gave out.  I'm in no way saying that's what happened but it is a possibility.  Also, I agree with 5fouls that listening to a rival coach isn't exactly doing what's best for your child.  If you can't say anything good about your own program I guess you can only resort to dissing the competition.

I agree with this too.  But really the point is that others are using negative recruiting against Archie.

I would hope the parents of a highly regarded recruit would have done more due diligence rather than listening to random gossip, especially when the source (a rival coach) has extra incentive to not tell the truth.

I would agree with that comment.  However the young man did go elsewhere so how much homework was done I don’t know.

Problem is I think part of the problem with recruiting is the perception that he is already on the hot seat.  I know people don't want to believe it but when fans constantly criticize the coach and talk about them being on a hot seat only hurts recruiting.  You don't think other coaches don't use that in negative recruiting when they see the fan turning on the coach.

I have a very close friend who has a contact with the dad of a player IU was recruiting who is a current high school senior.  The player chose another school because he and his dad were scared away from IU because they were told on the recruiting trail that this would be Archie’s last year.  Sounds to me like your concern is perfectly reasonable.
