There are always going to be the crazies that made bogus claims lol. That happens with every fanbase. Tiller had us in a really good position before the Wisconsin fumble. Painter made the Elite 8 with maybe the 4th or 5th most talented team he had at Purdue. Of course it’s not a guarantee but I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t make another E8. The Hummel teams if healthy were easily good enough to make the E8. With a healthy Haas, we could’ve made it too.

They’re very different players. Foster was/is an undersized PG while Fletcher is a combo guard with much better size. Just made a 40-spot jump in the rivals rankings. Will likely be the next Mathias/Cline/Stefanovich.

Being 4-5 inches taller will certainly help. His brother is tiny.

I disagree re football. Beating IU isn’t the aspiration. If we didn’t emphasize sports like other programs, we wouldn’t have made the commitment to Brohm that we did where he’s one of the highest-paid coaches in football. Sure it might not work out but clearly the commitment has been made. There wasn’t a legit commitment made to multiple sports for a long time but that’s no longer the case. Tiller had a lot of success but programs like IU and Purdue will never compete for national championships in football. It’s just not going to happen. I disagree re Painter never challenging for a national championship. He has had multiple teams that were good enough to win it all. You don’t think he’ll make it as far as the Elite 8 again? As far as national championships in other sports, I honestly couldn’t care less. If we had 20 titles in sports I didn’t follow or care about, would I feel any different? Nope. If we win a softball national championship and one in tennis the next few years, that’s cool I guess but non-revenue sports don’t do anything for me.

For as good as he was last night, he was really bad tonight. Loyer doesn’t really have off games which is crazy. Goode went for 41 last night but Loyer still went for 20. Loyer is their leading scorer I believe.

Don’t think there’s much correlation there to be honest. The only one I would say is the ‘07 class because of what happened with Sampson but since then, not so much. I feel like we don’t go head to head in recruiting THAT often (at least prior to Archie getting there). Some of our better teams had guys that IU didn’t offer/recruit (Haas, Mathias, Vince and Carsen, Cline, Swanigan, Hammons, etc...). Painter hasn’t had a recruiting run like this in his tenure at Purdue.

I agree. There was a pretty interesting debate on our board as to whether we should’ve played or postponed and I’m glad we played. Good for the young guys to have to deal with adversity. There’s also been pretty good indicators that Sasha was the only guy on the team who hadn’t gotten Covid yet as it was mentioned that the rest of our guys had it before the season started so perhaps that played a role in it too but who knows.

It’s up to the individual program to decide if they want to play. Purdue could’ve called off the game last night but CMP wanted to play.
