Multiple studies strongly disagree with you

    Food Insecurity in Collegiate Student-Athletes

Unsubstantiated polls aren’t studies. The NCAA saying “fine, allow unlimited meals” isn’t a study either. It’s them saying idgaf about meals and we never did, going from 5-6 meals a day allowance to unlimited is literally the same thing. More then 10% of all D1 athletes are homeless??? Defies all logic. ALL of them get room and board and all of them are allowed to live on campus year-round.

My sentiments are in no way defending the NCAA (they can kick rocks) but the idea that FULL room & board creates homelessness and lack of access to food is complete BS. The only student athletes who ever died on this hill in the media in the past were those who were really only complaining about the NCAA hoarding the bag while they weren’t “getting theirs”.

It’s a slap in the face to anyone who actually had to put themselves through college, experiencing their inadequate meal plan run out 2 months before school was out that cost 30% more then it should have and will eventually cost +500% what it should once the loans actually get paid off, hoping to pick up extra shifts at crap jobs that take away from the reason you’re there in the first place, donating plasma and borrowing money from friends/family (on top of student loans) just to get to the end of the semester.

Anyone who’s hung out with a D1 athlete in college knows how much of an absolute lie this is. They get the most expensive/robust meal plan on campus. So big, no “normal” students have the same plan unless their Carmel soccer mom bought it not knowing it’s twice what’s actually needed. Then there’s the weekly stipend they get…and oh ya, they all took gifts/money. If Shabazz Napier went to bed hungry it’s because he was too lazy to go get food.

If UK makes the SEC final, they are moving up to the 5 line.  Guaranteed.  Their KenPom and NET are already at that level.

Fun UK fact. They had 1 AP vote in the 14th week poll which is good enough for 40th in the nation. Since, they’ve had the same record as IU (albeit a less impressive one) and they moved up 17 spots to #23.
Meanwhile, IU dropped from #18 to #19. Nothing would surprise me with their ability to BS their way to a better seed than they deserve.

You could get called for a foul by going over the back trying to tip the ball.  The only time you miss on purpose is being up 1 and the opponent has no timeouts

That would be an absurd call in that moment but whatever. Agree to disagree. The second free throw means nothing. There’s a less than 5% chance they would even get to attempt a 2pt shot from a half court out of bounds play in the first place. Either way, you take away Clark and make anyone else beat you. That is indisputable

Woody has to learn when the media timeouts are coming and pull TJD a min. before to steal him some bench time.

I saw him ask for a breather at a dead ball just before the under 4 TO and Woody ignored it. Race, Geronimo and XJ desperately need to get healthy and right by tourney time. I’m also hopeful Banks can contribute 5-6 minutes per game going forward. We went from one of the deepest benches in the country to essentially a 7 man rotation.

    JHS 2-12 with 4 turnovers.

His teammates are visibly frustrated with him and we see this every 2-3 games from JHS. The staff needs to save a freshman from himself. This isn’t the NBA, they can’t always plsy themselves out of it. Reign him in or play a walk on who will dribble, pass and defend.

My only thing on the bolded is that I don't see any other teams being treated that way.

IU probably has 4-6 technicals this year on just garbage stuff that I don't see being called on any other teams.

Hard to say when we don’t know what’s being yelled at the refs. It really depends on how vulgar they’re being but you are right that no other team is getting these Techs. I guess it’s up to Woody to call it out publicly if they’re not deserved. Also, wtf is that post game analysis? Rafeal Davis all but admits the ref swallowed the whistle. The other two completely ignored it…zero accountability when a spade isn’t called a spade by the guys with the platform to do it.

Can't win when JHS goes 1-for-14, we don't finish around the rim, and we don't really force any live balk turnovers.

With that said, the officiating also was a major cause of deciding that game. There's a reason not finishing around the rim killed us but didn't really hurt Maryland at all and the answer is in the free throw attempts discrepancy.

I’d be surprised if any team has ever won a game at this level with a 1-14 night from their PG. It’s a staggering stat line.

  9. The officiating was crap but we also commit a TON of dumb fouls. We were jumping at their shooters instead of closing out and getting out of position & reaching in all night.
Also, you don’t win games when your PG shoots 1-14 and has twice as many turnovers than assists. At some point it’s Woody’s fault for not reigning him in or taking him off the court.

    Shooting is rhythm and confidence.

Being in front of your man on defense, moving your feet, refraining from slapping -- that's effort + bball IQ. He has room for growth in that area. (And that's not a bad thing. It's part of learning how to play at this level against better competition.)

Straight up M2M sure, but not in team defense when you’re constantly having to communicate pick and rolls and switches. Having a feel for help side defense at a higher level also takes getting used to. Everyone on this team has gotten absolutely embarrassed at times on defense, including TJD. It happens. I just don’t think there’s a large enough sample size on Gunn yet. He doesn’t have the minutes/commit enough errors to be relevant in that discussion yet. If anyone needs to get better in this system it’s JHS but even the most gifted freshman are still freshmen.

Rhythm has zero to do with containing the basketball and not turning the ball over. Zero.

I can’t imagine anyone who’s played /coached basketball at any level above “pee wee” agreeing with this. JHS used to be constantly praised for his “speed” control, dictating vs pressing. That’s 100% rhythm, confidence and experience. Not getting sped up, knowing where your teammates will be, knowing how defenses will react comes with floor time.
On the defensive side, floor communication is critical when our philosophy is to switch 1-4 and often every position. If you’re not doing that at game speed on a regular basis, you’re not going to be good at it. Point being, JHS makes the same mistakes as Gunn and the only way Gunn will improve in these areas is consistent playing time. He has 5 turnovers on the season in over 130 minutes. It’s the exact TO to Minutes ratio as Galloway and Bates. Why are you picking on Gunn?
