IU loses 4-3 in 10th after leading 3-1 going into the 8th. A heartbreaking loss.

Nebraska beat UM 1-0. So Maryland and IU 1/2 game in back of UM.
Last I checked a double dip today starting at noon and 3PM.

#20 Nebraska has clinched the B1G regular season, and as there is no B1G tournament, they get the automatic B1G bid.
IU is one game down to Maryland and UM. Maryland comes in as probably the hottest teams in the B1G having taken 2 of 3 from UM last week-end. UM goes to Nebraska for 3. So the last weekend finds the top 4 B1G teams playing each other. Too bad the championship is not on the line.
IU is still just in the NCAA field, but must do well v. Maryland or go home. IU starter Tommy Sommer will not start, but is available for short stints. He has a fingernail problem, and he was knocked out early in his last 2 starts v. Nebraska and UM.John Modungo, a freshman, will start the series instead at 6:30 PM. He is 3-1 on the season with four starts and 15 appearances and a sparkling 2.08 ERA. Brown and Bierman will start Saturday and Sunday at 2PM and 1PM respectively in their usual places in the rotation.
All three games are on TV on the B1G Network. If you can't get the channel, the games will all be on radio. You can't link to the radio broadcast by googling IU 2021 baseball schedule and scrolling down to the Maryland games and tapping the "Listen" function.
The whole season comes down to this series. Many predicted that IU would win the B1G and be one of the best teams in the Midwest and East, if not the best. But it has not been so. IU has lots of pitching which is crucial for long runs in the tournament. So if the Hoosiers can get in the tournament, they do have what it takes for a long run with a fresh start to salvage their season.

"El Maggo, indeed."

Horrible. Either this team has gone cold at the wrong time, is not as good as we thought, has injuries, and/or a combination of these things. They will have to play up to their former ranking just to make the NCAA tournament.

Why is UL still playing basketball? (Not the first time I've ask this question)

Love Tebow, but he should've done this a long time ago. He just wasn't a fit as an NFL QB though he was a great college QB.

Yep! Every dong means we might have guys who can contribute at the end of 23 when we might have a chance at wild card again!
"Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs. You kidding me? Just hope we can win a game."

This is true, but part of that is because NBA coaches and teams are better at maximizing what guys do. Duncan Robinson wasn't even a full-time starter at Michigan yet he starts and plays a pivotal role for the Heat because Spoelstra finds a way to maximize the use of one of the best shooters on the planet.
Robinson is an interesting story. The Heat told him they were sending him to the G-league. They told him to shoot whenever he was open even if only slightly so. That was the good news. The bad news was that he would always guard the best offensive player on the other team regardless of position. Guess that worked.

Do you guys know about Marilu’s special mental acuity? She can remember every day of her life.
For some of us this would not a good thing!

One thing in the NBA they take the first open look and they don't waste the first half of the shot clock wasting time.
You're never more open than when you catch the ball.

I don't like "recruiting over" players.
So is a team supposed to just recruit players who are only the same or worse than the ones they already have?

Nico Hoerner getting called up because of injury to Joc Pederson. Service time starts up. Will be interesting to see if they send him back down once other is healthy to accrue those 36 games Cubs need.
Well if he can hit .225 he'll up the team BA a lot!

Great article Joe. Thanks.
Dolson clearly is thinking globally. He's just not hiring a basketball coach, trotting him out there, and hoping for the best. He's providing support with Motta and giving him the money to hire good coaches. The Fife hire was brilliant for both basketball and non-basketball reasons. Fife and CMW have a number of things in common, but one of the most important is that they both really love IU and want to spend the rest of their professional career at IU promoting not just IU basketball but IU. This creates great synergy within the university, in the state of Indiana, and for IU alums outside of Indiana. For example, CRMK was well known for his promotion of the IU Library. This makes the basketball program just something you go to see on Thursdays and Saturdays (I'm dating myself). But it's connected to what is very important to the university and the students.
There's a lot more to discuss here. I liked to here from some of you especially marketing folks who actually know what they are talking about unlike me.
But when all is said and done Dolson, Woodson, and company have to win and win big to make it work.

When is "Hoosier Hysteria"? Probably have to start camping out now to get a seat. Women have a potential final 4 team and the men aren't too far behind.
A great pick-up. Tamar really plays the passing lanes well. One thing I didn't like about the pack-line was that it gives up quite a bit of playing the passing lanes.

I think it's because of his injury. He had a 5 or 6 game stretch where he played like an All B1G player. Then he got injured. So can he maintain like the pre-injury Armaan? Experts reluctant to go out on the limb in this situation.

I expect IU to explore all options for shooting options. Including taking a page from Michigan and looking beyond D1 transfers like they did with Duncan Robinson. There is one name within Indiana college hoops right now available that I think would be an amazing fit.
Welcome back Piston. Good to hear from you!

Little detective work.
Woody worked with World Wide Wes and Kenny Payne in New York.
Kenny Payne was an assistant at Oregon. Yasir Rosemond overlapped with Payne at Oregon. Payne and Wes are tight.
Connecting the dots. Sounds like Woody talked with Wes and Payne as far as getting a guy in here who is good at relationships. Rosemond obviously came out of that.
Very interesting.....You are a top notch sleuth BS.

Yeah kid wanted to play for him and then signed with their greatest rival when they let him go.
Thanks. Do you know anything about why he then chose Auburn?

IU in a pickle having lost 8 of last 10. They can't even tie for third. Even worse they are now tied with Iowa for 4th. Iowa plays a bottom dweller MSU for their last game of the season today. We play #25 Maryland at their place. IU could easily wind up 5th in the B1G.
