  1. It's great to see a thread for the 500. It's been a part of my life since I can remember. I spend quite a bit of time reading the Trackforum during racing season. I signed up as a member, but I don't post there. Those guys are out of my league. A lot of insiders and some crew members as well. Great perspective of what really happens at the speedway and IndyCar in general. That place has been in my blood for a really long time. Great to talk to other IMS fans.

For us locals. Blackout lifted. 500 will be shown live this year here in Indy market.

Awesome! I can see both sides of the blackout argument, but it seems archaic in this day and age. Of course, I'll watch and or listen no matter what. Just like I have every May since the mid 50's.

And as the photo I posted shows, he won all those races while wearing a white dress shirt and sweater.

It is absolutely shocking how exposed the drivers were in those days. I really like Dixon and think he is an absolute master. But the stuff that Foyt did in every format imaginable, makes him the best ever in my opinion. There are so many variables, especially across eras, that a direct comparison is impossible.

  4. This seems heavy handed. Student populations are one of the least impacted age groups. I understand the need to take precautions, but at least allow for alternatives for those who are uncomfortable with the vaccine. We are moving into authoritarian territory here.

"Scientists on a committee that encouraged the use of fear to control people’s behaviour during the Covid pandemic have admitted its work was “unethical” and “totalitarian”. Advertisements Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour (SPI-B) expressed regret about the tactics in a new book about the role of psychology in the Government’s Covid-19 response. The group warned in March last year that ministers needed to increase “the perceived level of personal threat” from Covid-19 because “a substantial number of people still do not feel sufficiently personally threatened”. "

“The use of fear has definitely been ethically questionable. It’s been like a weird experiment. Ultimately, it backfired because people became too scared.”

Another SPI-B member said: “You could call psychology ‘mind control’. That’s what we do… clearly we try and go about it in a positive way, but it has been used nefariously in the past.”

One warned that “people use the pandemic to grab power and drive through things that wouldn’t happen otherwise… We have to be very careful about the authoritarianism that is creeping in”.

I take COVID seriously and do what I can to protect myself. I try to avoid getting sick, period. I recognized the fear tactics being used early on and presented it. I was reminded of the daily scorecard of those killed and injured during the Vietnam war. I just want an honest assessment of risk and who is most vulnerable. And, especially during the early months, I wanted the constant over the top news stories to stop. Someone trying to manipulate me is one thing I will not tolerate.

The highlighted part trends toward something I have always believed.  Some people have a natural immunity to this thing.  Otherwise, there is no way we would have seen stories like we did early on, before masking and social distancing became the thing to do, where a husband would get seriously ill and even die while the wife would not even get sick.  Or, a family of 5 would have 3 get seriously ill and 2 experience nothing.

I think you are on to something here. The varied reaction to the virus is probably dependent on individual immune systems. That makes it so hard to predict what the consequences of forgoing the vaccine will be. I have not been vaccinated yet, but my wife has. I fully supported her decision. In my family, some have and some haven't. My daughter, who works in a nursing home, tested positive last summer. She had no symptoms and her husband and son never tested positive. And yet, other families have been devastated by it. I guess that's why I have supported allowing individuals to make their own decisions and respect whatever that decision is. Someone once told me that you live your life at your own risk.

Haha. We can only hope. I was in getting a Powerball ticket this afternoon and a guy asks me why I'm wearing a mask. I basically said to each their own and he said don't be a pawn to the powers at be....I told him to not project his own beliefs onto everyone else.

This is just the start. My feeling is there will be plenty of mask vs no mask encounters this summer.

Really sad. We don't have to be that way. People can have differing beliefs, lifestyles, and yes, opinions and still be civil and get along for the good of society.

It's to the point where it's confusing on when you should wear a mask.  You can go to two of the same 'type' of store.  In one, everyone has a mask.  In the other, no one has a mask.

Probably at a point where masks should be optional for everyone. I prefer a well informed populace making decisions for themselves. And, hopefully, everyone respects the decisions they make.

Not necessarily when you’re just listing off their heights, but I’m not sure Kopp fits the profile of a 4.  First off, from what I’ve seen, 6’7 is a pretty generous listing for Kopp.  And based on the videos I’ve watched, it doesn’t look like he was playing the 4 for Northwestern much at all last season.  Looked much more like a 3 than a 4 to me.

That’s not to say there’s no way he could play the 4.  With the way college basketball is trending and how Mike Woodson may want to play, he very well could, and he’d provide some much needed shooting at that spot.  But he’d certainly be an undersized 4, especially in the Big Ten, and I think it would be tough for him on defense and really tough for him on the glass (averages less than 3 rpg for his career).  Right now, my money’s still on Race starting at the 4.

I think I remember Kopp saying that CMW wanted him to improve his rebounding. I believe that CMW sees the guys he has added more as what he believes they can be than what they have been. Woodson is all about development. That's something he is selling the guys he is recruiting. I think we will be seeing guys doing things they haven't done before.

  10. I want IU to be a football team that no one feels comfortable with being on their schedule. That they know a tough, hard fought game is coming. When we can be that, we have a chance to have exceptional seasons. The king (OSU) is only the king until someone knocks them off the throne. And someone always does. Might as well be IU.

  11. I lost my mom when I was 26 in 1975. She was the kindest person I have ever known. She taught me to respect and love people of other races and cultures. So much of who I am can be traced back to her. I have missed her every day since she passed.

Agreed. I've put in 3 work orders for burying the line and the 3rd party that does the trenching wont start on orders until June 15th. All they had to do was come ask what was going on.

It's not like I havent been trying to get it done.

Not your fault at all. COVID has caused all kinds of cancellations and delays. No matter how each of feels about the decisions authorities have made, that's the reality. Each of has the ability to work together to make the best of the situation. Your neighbor chose not to. This is a completely avoidable situation and is a sad commentary on the state of some members of society.

Not really sure. I figured the tech would have informed them. They have mowed several times and clearly knew the cable was there.

Anyone with an IQ higher than forrest gump should figure its attached to the pole for a reason.

No excuse for that sort of behavior. A simple conversation could have easily solved whatever issues your neighbor may have had. As a society, we have to be better than this sort of thing.

Gibson wanted to play basketball for IU (He did play for the Globetrotters), at some point  Branch McCracken told Gibson he already had one African American (not in those words) and wasn't looking for another one.

Not doubling you at all,but if that is true, it's a really sad and regrettable commentary on who we were back then.

Big George was a force of nature.

Yes he was. One of my favorite players and a guy who was a prototype for what big men would become in basketball. He was also an outstanding football player in high school. Can you imagine seeing him coming at you on the football field?

    Better than George McGinnis?

I think so based on his ability to control a game. Loved McGinnis and think if he would've stayed to play for Coach Knight, that would have been a championship team. Thomas was fearless and in the championship game, he dominated UNC.

  17. There are so many variables that it is impossible to say who will or will not be infected. My 48 year-old daughter, who works in a nursing home, tested positive with no symptoms. Her husband and son who live with her never got COVID. I'm not dismissing the seriousness of this virus, just saying that there is a lot we still don't know about who is most vulnerable. I have been a part of several clinical studies, dry eye, and the director of those studies said she was not getting the vaccine based on the fast track nature of the process. I'm just saying that people should not be demonized for their decision, no matter what it is.

  18. I'm 72 and in good health. I have elected not to get the vaccine for now. At some point I may change my mind as I learn more. I respect each person's choice and believe everyone else should too. My wife elected to get the one shot option and I supported her 100%. I only have a problem when people want to criticize each individuals personal choice.
