Now, I'm not directly comparing this team to the 1975 team, but they did something last night that was typical in most of the 75 teams game...they crushed NIU's spirit in the first 15 minutes with their defense, and from there, the other team simply wanted the game to be over and to get the hell out of AH. If only we had a Steve Green (the most underrated player ever at IU IMHO...God knows what numbers he would have put up with a 3 point line...pretty much automatic from each deep corner)...

Man, you are on to something there! It was really sad to me that Green and Laskowski missed getting a championship. They were a big part of the foundation that kick started the program during the Knight years.

It really has become a life-changing pandemic. I’m getting so many emails from people from everywhere in the US about long-COVID. I’m the contact person for my boss who is one of the PIs on the big NIH long covid study, so people trying to reach my boss reach out to me.

People are desperate to get the word out about their lingering, and often debilitating, health issues after recovering from COVID.

We have a friend who is a doctor and was one of the first in the region to get COVID. She is still not back to work full time. Her life has changed so drastically.

The question that I would like to see answered is what is different about people who are experiencing that result. I'm 73, had covid three weeks ago, recovered quickly, and am doing everything I did before with no lingering symptoms. Why am I and others like different? If we could answer that question, maybe we could take a more nuanced approach rather than the shotgun, vaccinate everyone approach we've taken. I feel truly sorry for those who have and are suffering from this virus but it seems to me that we are missing something.

  3. I tested positive for covid today. My symptoms began about a week ago and are nearly gone now. It was the lack of taste and smell that caused me to be tested. My wife, who is vaccinated, came down with what she thought was a cold about two weeks ago and I got it a week later. Same symptoms though some of hers were worse than mine. She refuses to be tested and is over whatever she had now. This makes me think that the number of vaccinated people getting covid and transmitting it are significantly higher than being reported.

Yep. Someone mentioned how fast Tucker turned things around just because of the portal....all programs should have at least one person if not more like Sparty doing just that.

I would be absolutely shocked if CMW didn't have someone assigned to monitor the portal. Coming from the NBA the whole free agency thing should be second nature to him.

It is hard to overlook a 6'7" backcourt man who jumps center and has arms that seem to telescope. "I can gamble on defense because with his arms Bobby can take two guys," says Buckner..

"Wilkerson is as coy about his wingspan as Zsa Zsa is about her age. "Just put down that I need extra-extra-long shirts," he says"

That was the best defensive backcourt I have ever seen.

  6. I'm trying to downplay the seriousness of covid. It's one nasty bug for sure. But it has also become a divisive distraction as well that keeps us from focusing on other serious problems. Yes, I'm looking at you China. On a side note, they are also pushing hard for technological superiority, especially AI, by the end of this decade. The next war will very likely be a technological one. I'm not sure that's even on our national radar.

I don't know. I've been looking at the DJI Mini 2 bundle from Costco is only $489 and I'd think you could recoup that pretty quickly...One drone site said this about it...

"This is the best beginner drone option you can get on the market. You’re able to receive professional results without it being an overwhelming experience."

DJI looks to be the industry standard. Sure, you can go crazy and spend a couple of grand, but I think I'll go slow on this...

Now, the one I bought for 50 bucks let me know it's something that piques my interest, and let me know it's something I can do...but the range is about 100 yards and that makes it tough, especially when I wanted to get up to altitude. I lost connectivity once and came about 10 feet from hitting a pickup truck driving by...I was probably 100 feet in the air and about 150 feet horizontally from it, and lost response...but what did I expect for $50? It's also tough to control in any wind conditions, and even in calm wind it drifts...

I've gone as far as watching several YouTube videos about some of the lower price point DJI drones. Some very tempting drones in the sub $1000 range. It's an itch that I'm tempted to scratch for sure. If I make the leap, it will probably be to one of the DJI models.

My neighbor got his license a year ago with thought of taking pictures for realtors and making some side $. I've seen his pics and videos and they come out very nice. As far as making $, I'm pretty sure he is still working to recoup the cost of his Drone.

No doubt. The drones with the camera specs I saw were pretty pricey. Without a clear path to recoup the investment, it's probably just something for me to drool over and not really purchase.

  9. I'm pretty heavily into photography and have been looking at them for a while as an additional photographic tool. Haven't been able to justify it yet given other more pressing needs. But when I see some of the work produced by others, it sure is tempting. You all have me green with envy.

  10. I'm in favor of trying to convince people to be vaccinated. Use incentives, logical arguments, true facts and risk analysis, and any other means short of mandates. I personally draw the line there. The mandates and the firings that are resulting are only serving to further divide us as a nation and to foster additional ill will among people who feel that the government is over stepping its boundaries.

  11. I just finished reading "Al Unser, Jr : A Checkered Past". Wow! I knew Little Al had some issues, but I had no idea how long he had them or how bad they were. He seems to be in a better place now and I sincerely hope he stays there. I liked him as a race car driver, but apparently drugs and alcohol made him a less likable person away from the track. If you love IndyCar and especially that era of racing, you'll probably enjoy this book.

Here is an interesting video discussing the problems with published research and maybe why we scientist can be wrong and info that comes out from studies etc should be carefully considered especially in this environment where motives are all over the place. I know people say to trust the science but a lot of time the science is flawed…in fact more often then not.

I am currently reading "Bad Pharma: How Drug Companies Mislead Doctors and Harm Patients" by Ben Goldacre. It is essentially about all of the things that go wrong in getting drugs approved. It's important to remember that drug companies aren't an altruistic endeavor. They intend to make money, and when everything works right, everyone benefits. But, as you can imagine, when billions of dollars are at stake, that doesn't always happen. Reading this book is kind of like an inside look at how sausage is made.

  13. Aside from the question, being a grandparent is such an added joy that it is really hard to explain. I've been at it for 25 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. My daughters have raised really good, respectful kids. I get to love them and do things with them and, for the most part, just be grandpa. My 25year old granddaughter has as spent every Christmas day at our house. She came once when her parents couldn't because of work obligations. That's how close we are. There is really nothing quite like being a grandparent.

  14. Those girls look a lot like my granddaughters. I love them so much that I feel sad when they go home. As far as influence is concerned, I pick my spots. When I think one of them needs some perspective or a slight course correction, I'll try to provide that. Mostly, I try to let them know that I'm here and available if they need me. One of my grandsons was a D-1 football prospect. I sensed that he wasn't quite as into it as his parents were. I simply told him to remember that football was what he did, not who he was.

I actually had 2 cracks at parenthood itself. My first 2 daughters were 11 and 10 when #3 came along...Learned so much with the first 2,and the third one reaped the benefits...

As far as my grandson goes, he lives over 700 miles away, but he knows the pecking order...Grandpa/Grandma> Mom and Dad :)

Last time he was here, we were stapled at the hip...He'd help me with farm chores 100%...Great helper for a 6th grader...

I actually think I'm a better grandparent than I was a parent. Like most, I think I learned and matured over time. I have nine grandchildren ranging in age from four to twenty-five. Four girls and five boys. Because of the spread in age, I have a different grandparent with each of them. I will say that I notice each of their personalities better than I did with my children. I try to provide a safe and fun environment for them when I have them. I don't sweat the small stuff as much as I did with my kids.

Me thinks it's gonna be a looong season......

I hope you're wrong but think you're probably right, given preseason expectations. I have a hard time seeing us beat Michigan, PSU, or OSU. That puts us at five losses. It might come down to Purdue on the road for bowl eligibility. Not liking that scenario at all.

    I don't know either...

But I do think we, as IU fans, become obsessed with keeping kids happy enough to stay, especially the in state kids...

I'm afraid with the new transfer rules it's inevitable that some kids are going to transfer each year for more playing time.

The best players will play. That's the one thing I am fairly certain about with CMW. Once that's established, then some kids will have a decision to make. And, honestly, that's the way it should be.

The loss probably didn't help at all

No it did not. That we are even in the conversation with kids like this is a huge change. I don't see us landing them until we are a perennial top 15 team. They just have too many other options that give the next level exposure they are looking for. This and the Iowa game probably closed the door.
