  1. We are not selling immediate playing time anymore, which is a very good thing. The next step is selling kids on being a part of a team that contends for a national title year in and year out. A great season this year will help with that. I think we have the talent and depth to make some noise this year. We have two really good players already committed and an opportunity to add to that before all is said and done. I'm going to worry too much about kids we don't get.

Anyone else hearing this stuff about Tony Stewart and IndyCar? Some announcement coming today. Hoping it's an ownership role.

Lots of cynical speculation on Track Forum but no one believes it will have anything to do with starting a team. Most think it will be a "Tony" centric announcement. Perhaps something to do with the museum. He tagged several racing series so we'll see.

Me too, to add to their great class. Hard to believe we are turning a top 60 kid away. I hope it all pans out in the end

I agree. But if the skill set didn't fill a need maybe we will be better off looking somewhere else. CMW seems to have a plan and we can only take so many of the same type players. Anyway, those making the decisions are way smarter than me.

Sports Illustrated wrote about that 1976 team, saying the opposing teams not only struggled to make shots, they often couldn't even complete passes.

That started with Buckner and Wilkerson. Probably the most imposing backcourt I have ever seen.

We unfortunately have a couple in the Indy area. I have no clue what Coach Woodson may or may not do moving forward but if he wants to say down the road we aren't recruiting any kids from a certain school in Indy. I'd be fine with that. Is it petty? Probably....but why spend the energy.

What's petty is high school coaches using their relationship with the kids to mess with their decision about what's best for them. I have no respect for Izzo and how he runs his program. I hope Booker made that call without Delaney's influence. I can't imagine that he is in better hands in any way with Izzo than he would be with Woodson or probably any number of other coaches.

If Banks can't get minutes we are very good. He gonna be a very nice player and surprise a lot of people

I think these freshmen are better than what we are used to. I think we have a chance to be very, very good. Our starters should be able to play with anyone. And, when we go to the bench, we should be much stronger than we were a year ago. Malik off the bench is better than Durr was, no disrespect to that young man. And, I think we can do that for every position.

I don't remember if it was you or someone else...so please don't take my original post as a I told you so approach. It's not my style. I just know that Delaney and IU won't ever work together. Real shame as you said...plenty of talent in the program but every state has those 1 or 2 coaches/guys who go a different direction.

No problem for me. Coach Woodson is a city kid by nature/heart. We'll be just fine and in January of 2024 if X wants to play from the right block and see what happens....reminder. We've got a lefty in TJD who is teaching a lefty in Malik a thing or two about tendencies.

I'm taking CMW every time over some high school coach with a hurt ego. On a side note, I have zero respect for a high school coach who uses kids for their own benefit. I'm not saying this is the case, but.... Woodson is an Indy kid. He has more local credibility than some of these people ever will.

He’s using one of his junior year visits.  He’s honestly one of the top guys I want out of who we are recruiting.  Point forward skills.  Motor.  Plays tough.  Good length and frame for a wing.  Skilled.  (I haven’t seen him play but I’m going off what I read).

Read all the quotes from the recruits.  IU’s staff targets their favorites and they work their asses off.  That takes organizational skill to be at the right places and then commitment and effort.  I am optimistic about our staff in a way I haven’t been in forever.  Big shout out to Brian Walsh.  That young man has the it factor.  He was a great hire.  Recruits like him, good personality and attitude, and tremendous work ethic.  It’s obvious recruits like him.

    https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/class-of-2024-iu-basketball-5-star-target-liam-mcneeley-plans-to-take-an-official-visit/

Imagine some interchangeable, switchable 3 and 4 positions with guys like Banks, Power, and McNeely.

When Woodson was hired, a real concern was whether or not he would be able to recruit in today's environment. I think he is answering that question quite nicely. Not only can he recruit, but he has assembled a strong staff to support that effort. Everyone is working towards the same goal. Impressive!

Not sure if I can post a Twitter thread correctly, but here's a try.

The replies are Dan taking fire from all sides over an old topic, now fresh again because he made it so.  He really brings this on himself.

Yes he does and he seems to enjoy the controversy. I in no way defend what Dakich does or says, but the way the IndyStar has handled this is beyond disgusting. The paper, which I have subscribed to for over forty years, has devolved into a gossip rag that doesn't deserve the title "newspaper". It's a sad day for journalism.

  10. The sad thing is that he was one of the good guys when he started with that show. He was an IU guy and I thought really cared about the university, but as time went by, he became really angry. I liked his show for a long time. I don't think he was ever the same after his divorce. He almost became a shock jock that was a parody of himself. The way this has played out is really sad. By the way, I lost a lot of respect for Greg Doyel for writing that article.

  11. What's wrong indeed. I've lived within 25 miles of Indianapolis my entire life. Spent 10 years living just south of Butler University during the '70's. I've been to every mall multiple times over the years and loved the city. Not anymore. There's a mentality that I can't wrap my head around. I don't know what it will take to restore some sanity to our society, but we need to figure it out really soon. I am terrified for my grandkids and the world they will inherit.

If I were a kid who really valued the degree and Big Ten I would jump all over a Purdue or IU offer

I honestly think CMW wants more athletic wings & guards.

MP said a few years ago he was looking for offensive skill…shooting & passing along with guys who buy into Purdue

Coach Painter does a great job with undervalued kids who he thinks can play and fit with what he is trying to do. Coach Woodson is building a different type of team. He wants an NBA style of play and team. Two different approaches and we will find out on the court which one prevails.

The first photograph released by NASA from the new Webb telescope of galaxies never seen before is amazing.  The galaxy cluster appears as it did 4.6 billion years ago.

Amazing that what we see in the sky may no longer be there. We are so caught up in our day to day lives that we have no perspective of the processes that occur over the span of time. I tried once to figure out what my lifespan would be in terms of the age of the earth. Math is not my strong point, but I came up with about a half of a second. Very humbling.

I know I'm bringing news here that could lead to political discussion so please refrain from any of that.

Very disappointing! The cost gasoline, combined with high inflation, hurts everyone. For the poor, It's devastating.

When the PGA commissioner held his press conferences, he had a bottle of Dasani water next to him, facing the cameras.  Dasani is a PGA sponsor, and pays for such promotion.

The irony is he did this while vilifying the players for being selfish and grabbing money.  The commissioner also makes $4 million per year.

These two facts seem trivial, but they won't in a lawsuit in front of a jury.  They completely undermine his credibility regarding the players being greedy, which he used as justification for suspension.  When it was the commissioner himself who was grabbing money and "being greedy" for all to see.

Lawsuits can pivot on such small things.

Product placement is one of the least recognized advertising strategies. It's everywhere in movies and sporting events. Everything is, and always has been, about the money.

  16. It's extremely difficult to get mental health care that makes a difference. If the person needing help is over 18, it's nearly impossible without the person's consent. No matter how much you want to help, you can't. I was a part of a support group for mental illness for several years and the frustration for people who have mentally ill loved ones is nearly unbearable. The HIPPA laws severely restrict what parents and relatives can do, no matter how concerned they are. It's tragic really. It's a hard problem and politicians and government officials don't do hard problems very well.

I design automated procedures that process millions of lines of data at a time. Yet electric can openers absolutely befuddle me. I can open a can easier with a dull pocket knife than with one of those infernal contraptions.

I refuse to use them. Give me a decent manual can opener every time.

New pet peeve, the adults that make AAU basketball a cesspool.

My 12U team just lost in the championship game of our tournament this weekend. My complaint isn't about winning or losing, it's about a lack of integrity.

We lost by 6 to a team that entered 14 and 15 year olds into the 12U division. Just pathetic for the people that run that program and for their parents who were talking sh*t to us after the game.

They should be embarrassed they only beat us by 6.

At the end of the day though, I'm proud of my boys. We battled and fought hard, and the refs even came over and congratulated us after the game for our effort. I'm guessing they realized what was going on.

Still sucks that adults have to ruin these things!!

Quite often what's wrong with kids starts with what's wrong with the parents.

Purdue is probably overrated but by the end of the year they will be pretty good. Whether out of necessity or not Braden Smith is going to be a 4 yr starter at PG, and will be way more than just solid. Front court will be good and you know they will play hard and defensively will be good.

Really good take. They have a lot of nice pieces and Painter is usually pretty good at making them fit. The defense took a step back last year and I don't think the chemistry was all that good. Painter seems to coach better without a superstar on the team.

I don’t know what Archie was really like, but I can tell you that my coach in college would glare at us, scream at us, etc., as we ran back down court for missing shots.

At halftime he would literally read our shooting numbers off the boxscore and go on and on about how it wasn't good enough, etc.

I saw it completely ruin guys. Some guys would come in as shooters and by mid-way through their first season they were a mess shooting the ball.

I had a high school coach throw a Kotex on the floor at halftime and walk out.....so there's that.

Buckner played 2 years of football at IU as a safety and punt and kick-off returner.  He was 2d team B1G at safety his sophomore year.  Quinn's father was a backup on IU's 1945 undefeated team.  Quinn was Chicago area player of the year in both football and basketball as well as an AA in HS in both sports.  He was drafted by the Washington Redskins, but he told them he would be playing basketball.  Guess that turned out OK.

He had his own "walk-in" song.  "The Mighty Quinn" by Dylan which the IU band played early and often.

"Come all without, come all within.

You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn."

That was nothing less than awesome. It was his team all four years he was here. The "mighty Quinn" indeed.
