It would be difficult to get worse at this point. Last two years we are 1-14 in the Big Ten. Pretty hard to defend that.

It starts at the top. I don't know how this staff can be viewed as anything but a failure. Maybe a new coach won't change anything, but we already know what we have now and it's not working. All of the momentum is gone and we aren't getting it back without major changes.

I think Coach Woodson's approach is perfect...

    Here are the goals...

    Big 10 Championship

    National Championship

Here is how we strive for the goals

    Prepare in practice

Take each game one at a time. Always be game ready. CMW said it in the post game. There might be times you don't play, and if you sulk and grouse about it, you won't be ready when we do need you. When you get playing time make the most of it.

Coach Woodson knows leadership, but he has to have the talent, just like every other coach, to win.

That said, we have to improve our defense over last year. Beyond shooting, we have to shoot FTs over 70%. And we have to be tough and have that "we're not going to be beaten" attitude. Wisconsin certainly wasn't the most talented team in the Big 10 last year, but they were mentally tough. Weird on an experienced team that it seems to be the freshmen that embody that the most...

Those freshmen only know winning. They don't intend to start losing now. Everyone else needs to get on that bus.

  3. I was a little surprised that CMW called Duncomb out the way he did today. I think he sees his potential and is pushing him to reach it. Gunn is a little farther along than I thought he would be at this point. At some point he will be really good. As good as we were today, I can't wait to see this team with TJD and Bates. At full strength, IU can be a force to be dealt with.

Yep. I have been an Indiana fan for about 60 years, through thick and thin. I am sick and tired of waiting for improvement. Hell, I would like to see some sustainable improvement, instead of one average year and 10 bad ones, wouldn't you?

I've been in it for the same amount of time. I agree 100% with your frustration because I've gone though the same experience. There is NO excuse for the Indiana football team to be a historically bad program. But, yet here we are. I'll concede we probably can't compete with the top four or five teams in the conference, but everyone else should be fair game. And, absolutely no excuse for Nortwestern, with their academics, being consistently better than IU.

  5. I think the CTA experiment is over. It's just going to drag on for another couple of years. We are the walking dead. It won't really damage the program because right now there is nothing left to damage. We have time to put a plan together to make IU football relevant. The question is do we have the will to do it.

    Something I just thought about...

1972-73 IU had a 2nd year coach that had improved IU and had modest success his first year by preaching defense first

2022-23 IU has a second year coach that improved IU and had modest success his first year by preaching defense first

In 1972-73 IU had a highly rated freshman point guard

In 2022-23 IU has a highly rated freshman point guard

In 1972-73 IU had a Senior All-American candidate at center

In 2022-23 IU has a Senior All-American candidate at center

50 years ago, the 1972-73 IU team won the Big 10 Championship and went to the NCAA Final 4...

    Just sayin'

I like the way you think. That team was surprisingly good and set the table for what was to come. Can this one do the same? Maybe, just maybe they can.

  7. To me, it has to start with both lines. No decent skill position player would want to play behind the offensive line we have had the past two years. Coach Wilson at least understood that. To me, building an offense has to start there. The same with the defense. Our secondary has way too much pressure put on them to make plays after the line loses containment. As long as our line play remains the same, it's going to be rinse and repeat year after year.

I’m so sorry to hear about your family’s struggles, but bless you for stepping up. That can’t be easy financially or mentally for you both.

Appreciate your comments. It is difficult but it is also family. You don't love them less because they have an illness they didn't ask for or is no fault of their own. We have taken a twelve week support class and participated in local support groups and have learned so much about mental illness. It is truly misunderstood by the public. Sadly, nothing will change until our society quits treating the mentally ill as an inconvenient nuisance and starts treating them like human beings with value.

There's a mental health crisis in our country... There's no denying that...

We took our granddaughter to the Aquarium Restaurant in Houston last week. As we were leaving, we went under an overpass that probably had 200 people in tents, boxes, sleeping bags... It's getting bad down here... Every street corner seems to have people panhandling. Can't go to too many of the shopping stores without getting approached for money...

I have a mentally ill step son, schizophrenia, and my wife and I have been trying to deal with it for about thirty years. I also have a daughter who suffers from depression if not bi-polar disorder. We have done everything in our power to help both of them. The current laws make it really difficult to get information from the people who treat them, if you can convince them to get help. My daughter has five kids who we love very much. We support them financially and have had them living with us at various times. The youngest is a five year old granddaughter who is the most precious thing to me. As much of a problem as this is from the outside, it is that much worse when you have to deal with it from the inside. As a country, we don't prioritize helping the mentally ill no matter how much lip service we pay to it. There was an article recently in the local paper about Jim Irsay's struggles with addiction and the family's problems with mental health. The point was that it is just as hard for wealthy, famous people as it is for the poor. It is not!

We could just invest heavily in domestic oil production and flood the market with US energy driving the price down and hitting Russia right in the GDP.

Then, shove Putins annexation up his kiester, tell him to withdraw his forces or we bomb all the infrastructure on the Ukrainian side of the border and leave his forces stranded and let the Ukrainian army wipe them out.

Tell the Norks to quit playing in their sandbox or we'll make the 3 light bulbs they are able to turn on go dark.

And before we are finally done make the northern Mexican states an inhospitable hellscape.

Whew, good thing I'm not in charge.

I got a good chuckle out of the rant. Nobody in power now wants low gas prices. Driving up the price to reduce consumption is the current energy policy. As I've said before, the wealthy don't really care about the price of gas. The poor on the other hand have to make difficult choices and often have to do without something essential.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise but I'm permanently banned from Twitter. So is my wife, well her email account is anyway.

Do that many people really use it?

I never got banned, but then I never posted tweets. I tried to follow people I liked and unsubscribe or block everything else. Even after doing that it was so toxic that finally gave up and deleted my account. I never started with Facebook for the same reasons. That and privacy concerns. Anonymous platforms seem to bring out the lowest common denominator of humanity.

Rapper G Herbo will perform at HH.

Here are the lyrics to some of his songs.  "Kill S--t" is the first one, but they all have the same message.  Gangs, guns, drugs, sex, prostitutes, murder, and kill the police.

Sorry if this post seems graphic, but someone approved this guy.  Blame them.

It's not about those of us who don't endorse the lyrics or that genre of music. It's about what connects with today's kids and what makes them feel like IU is a viable destination. We all want the best talent so we can't really dictate the terms by which we acquire that talent.

Read a lot of the in game thread. Lots of bitching and pessimistic attitudes.

You guys do realize that this is IU football we’re discussing here, right? You know, the all-time worst football program in the conference? Any win is a blessing. To be 3-0 is something to relish, not be skeptical about. Too many seasons where 3 wins was the high water mark.

Good for these kids. Good for CTA.

Guys like Cam Jones deserve all the respect in the world.. not a bunch of armchair coaches who want to disparage his team

I agree with everything you said but recognize we could be looking at a three win season considering how we have played. I will gladly take any win we can get.

I asked this question to a few people.

Would you feel good about donating money to an NIL or Riley Childrens Hospital?

I’m glad the kids are getting paid but the cesspool of D1 football & basketball got better or worse?

How money gets allocated is always going to be questioned depending on priorities. Mine have always been need based. But everyone has the right to prioritize according to what matters most to them. Personally, I think the cesspool has gotten worse.

I could see that but in terms of that last drive, I consider us “winning it.”   There were a lot of plays we had to make to pull it out.  Those weren’t handed to us.  We had to make the plays and we did. You need a TD and you go 75 yards with 2 minutes.  All credit to IU.

I absolutely get that. But going forward we can't hope to have a drive at the end of the game to win. Watching the game, I could not believe we were down by 1 for a good part of the game. They seemed to be doing everything but scoring. That kind of effort won't win us many games unless Illinois is way better than I think. I like our potential on defense but the offense didn't show me enough to think we are headed to a bowl game.

It was a good, hard fought game.  You guys are on the right track.  You have a good team.  Good luck the rest of the way.

I really felt like Illinois lost the game more than we won it. I'll take it because sometimes that's the way a game goes. But I thought that for most of the game they were the better team.

Had a checkup this week. 60 days into a significant lifestyle change and my BP was 128/80.  It was 160/120 when they put me on a med. Hopefully I can start to ween off soon.

A few years ago I was having trouble getting a reading on my home BP monitor. I decided to go to a walk in clinic to have it checked. When they took the reading it was 240/135. They sent me directly to the hospital where it took three hours to get down enough so I could go home. I didn't have a headache or any other pains. I still don't know why it spiked and it has never happened since. The attending doctor wrote in the notes that I had a headache even though I told them every time they asked that I did not.  It was disconcerting to say the least. The worst part still is not knowing why.
