Is one particular fuel type better during the winter? I guess I am just wondering if an electric or coal smoker would work sufficiently during the colder months? And to clarify, I won't be out there in 10 degree weather, but I'm talking more about 30s-50s temps.

    Not really a fan of Gose or sours, but I love Founder’s Mas Agave which is a gose aged in tequila barrels. Yesterday I grabbed their Mas Agave with Grapefruit and it was even better. Definitely recommended. 

    I like Bells Oarsman. I don’t usually like sours either, but it is just tart enough to enjoy in the summer.

    Smoked it at 185 with apple wood chips. In my brine I added a little chili powder to help balance the amount of brown sugar the recipe called for. It was a good call because the recipe I used was a little bland, but regardless still provided a good flavor. 
     

    I used a KC BBQ rub on it. I was going to wrap it in bacon, but couldn’t find the bacon as I was trying to leave for work. Dummy me didn’t check the outside fridge where we had all the bacon. 
     

    Wife said it was the most moist pork loin I’ve ever made. I don’t like dry meat, so it’s a win for me. 

    What type of cooker and what temp?

    Ingredients

    3 medium white onions

    1 cup red wine vinegar

    1/2 cup sugar

    3 tblsp either mustard or dry mustard

    Cayanne pepper to taste (I usually go pretty liberal...tblsp or so)

    I teaspn salt

    I cut the onions in rings, but I've also chopped them in a food processor. Either way works, but the rings seem to saute better. Saute them with a tblsp of oil over low heat until they're soft.

    Heat the red wine vinegar in a small sauce pan until just before it simmers. Add the dry ingredients and stir til dissolved.

    Pour the vinegar mixture over the onions in a bowl or jar and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

    The longer they sit, the better they seem to taste, and they keep for quite a while.

    I made a batch yesterday with apple cider vinegar instead of the red wine. They’re very tasty. I put some on rib tips for lunch.

    We do something similar with pork chops. They get a quick sear on the grill then go into a pan of beer and BBQ sauce.

    ....But back to grilling. Looking forward to having smoked baby backs tomorrow...weather permitting. I’ve tried a whole bunch of different ways, but smoking @ 215 for 5-6 hours with a spritz of apple juice every hour works best for me. (I just rub with mustard and some Famous Daves Rub.)

    I smoked some spare ribs today. I did them closer to 300 with a type of 3-2-1 method. I didn’t sauce at the end and probably should have cut it down to 10-15 minutes. 
    I like to spritz but don’t have a great bottle to use. I always get the cheap plastic ones and lose them.

    I’ve had countless stouts, but always come back to a good ole Breakfast Stout. 

    As for Barrel Aged stouts, that’s a worm hole you don’t want to go down if you don’t like to spend money. I used to hunt these down, but just can’t anymore. Ever since I turned about 35, if I drink more than one I’ll wake up in the morning feeling like a train hit me - there’s just so much sugar in those things and the hangovers are fierce. I still love them though; I just usually have to split them with my wife or neighbors. Of course, Bourbon County is high up on my list - and any variants I can get my hands on, but I also love Firestone Prarabola and Big Bad Baptist. 

    Never have been a fan of Darklord; I think it’s just way too sweet and can’t understand all the hype around it. 

    I also enjoy the imperial and barrel aged stouts. I’ve even started putting together my own cellar. 
    I’ve got a couple bottles of BCBS. I’m surprised how easy it has been to find this year.

    Also going to do some wood furniture. Something I’ve always wanted to do, just never had much time. 

    I did something similar with an old dresser. It was much cheaper to buy one at a yard sale and modify as needed. 
    I just pulled the bottom few drawers out and added a plywood floor.

    Buy chew toys. Not the rawhide ones though. She recommends Bully sticks. Says cloth and rubber toys makes them think anything is fair game...

    And last, but most importantly, LOTS of exercise, as Teacher said, especially for a Husky...when I told her it was a Husky, she said, "Well, good luck." 

    We’ve been pushing crate training with some good progress. I’ll have to do look into what toys we’re buying. What kind of dog training does she do?

    I'm getting a husky, so I'm trying to get emotionally ready for crazy!  I worry about punishing too. How can I say no to this lol

    We got a puppy about a week ago. It is a lot. They need to be supervised 100% of the time they aren’t crated. This allows you to teach them potty training and what to do and not to do. 
     

    Sounds like you need to make some hot sauce. I’ve never done it but I’ve looked into it. There are some recipes that look pretty simple with vinegar and cayenne.

  11. I’m generally too lazy to make much. I like the simple ones like rum/bourbon and coke. My go to is probably gin and Sprite with a lime wedge or lime juice. It’s refreshing in the summer. I also found some  old fashioned mix I liked. You just added whiskey, bitters, and a garnish. 

  12. I used to run a lot. I did XC and track through hs and college.  One of my favorite things was running on trails. If you can find somewhere you enjoy being it helps.
     

    Another thing that may be helpful is not starting out too fast. The benefit of most runs comes from the amount of time on your feet with your heart rate elevated.
