Honestly you will have the opportunity to likely live anywhere you want. I'm sure you could do anything from teach chemistry to work in the bio field and anything in between. I say find the highest paying job for a company you think you would like and be happy in. Your priorities will change several several times in your life. Access to things that you find important now (whether nightlife, travel/airports, hunting/fishing, weather etc. will continue to change) Now you may want to work and surf...or meet lots of people. Later it might be to settle down and raise a family. Just make a list of your priorities and then sit down and look for parts of the country that would satisfy most of them. Rack up and save as much cash as possible and look to retire early and then move to the most desirable recreational location then. I'd say the most leisurely places etc probably wouldn't be the most conclusive in finding the best job/career or meeting people or even raising a family etc. Heck you may want to stay close to family later. I know I had no desire to live in Florida until that happened. Just be honest with what you want in the next 5 years and find the most attractive job etc and go. You can always and will likely pick up and move several times. Don't sweat trying to have the perfect life all at once. Good luck! I wish I had finished with such a degree. You sound pretty intelligent so I'd say you will do just fine!

Thankfully at 34 years old, I've had enough opportunity to find myself and what I'm looking for. I'm just kind of curious what people think of as a good or fun place to go.

After having taught for 8 years, one thing that was annoying was the lack of upward mobility. In teaching, the best and worst teachers still get paid the same and have the same opportunities. Really looking forward to having a chance to move to more desirable jobs if I want.

Also, having been a teacher, I feel like I'll be a much better student now than I ever used to be lol.

This is my whacked out plan, should I ever hit the Powerball jackpot:

    - “Primary” residence of some broom closet in Texas or Florida for income tax purposes

    - Residence 1: San Diego. Best damn weather in the country most of the year.
-Residence 2: Atlantic coast of Maine. New England autumns are gorgeous, and I’ll need a place to get away when I’m sick of Californians. 🤣

    - Residence 3: Town home in downtown Boston. Place to stay when I’m in town dealing with financial matters.
    - Residence 4: 20 acres in BFE, Midwest. For when I’m sick of dealing with everyone.

    Completely reasonable, I think. :coffee:

Except for residence #4, all places I haven't been. Now I'm hungry for lobster for some reason.

Somewhere with a temperate climate.  Possibly Northern California or Oregon.  Don't like snow and cold.  Don't like heat and humidity.   Don't need to be near super big cities, but don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere either.  I've never been there, but maybe the Sacramento, California area.  It's going to be all about weather with me.

That's an area I've always wanted to travel to. I'm definitely over Midwest weather, and wouldn't mind not going from 90 to 40 in 3 days.

Penix is an easy guy to root for. For being a “flashy” kind of athlete, he’s usually the first to defer credit when it’s given. And despite his struggles, it doesn’t look like he’s lost his confidence.

If the team hasn’t lost confidence in him, that says a lot about him. Despite him not being at his best, he’s still the guy they want to follow into battle.

There was a video IU put out a few weeks ago. As players were coming off the field after practice, someone was asking them who they'd like to be stranded with on a desert island. One of the guys said they'd like to be stuck with Penix because they knew everybody would try to find him.

They respect him, and know how important he is to IU football. Even though he's struggled a ton, I think they're still all behind him.

Just curious, have you come across The Game Changer Life? It's a podcast by Dave Anderson who wrote "The Intentional Mindset." I'm about half way through the book and picked it up because it was recommended by coaching colleagues. As I looked into is more, I found out that it's the book that Rob Phinessee read this offseason in an effort to develop his killer instinct. And then, I listened to the Tom Crean interview on Hoosier Hysterics and he was raving about it. So far there's a whole bunch of great insights in the book (similar to your example above) that I can definitely apply to myself and preach to my athletes.

Similar to what you said and kind of like i mentioned to @FKIM01, you need to almost change the way you think about things. Rather than think, "i'm missing my favorite foods" (a negative).....you need to think "healthy foods make me feel better" (a positive). It sounds almost too simple and a bit corny, but it helps me. Another great thing I've taken away from the book and speak to my swimmers about is that "progress begins at the end of your comfort zone". Once an athlete can realize this, discomfort is welcomed because they attach the sensation to improvement (a positive) instead of pain or fear (a negative). This has lead to focused and intense practices.

I haven't read/listened to those yet. I will definitely check them out! When you have a husky who needs a 2 mile walk each morning and night, there is a lot of time to listen. I'm trying to fill that time with things that could be useful, so I appreciate the suggestion!

In olden days, fat people were pegged as wealthy (i.e., they had the disposable income for extra food), but to be honest, I would welcome some pretty hard push to get me in shape.  I don't know what form that would take as financial incentives wouldn't do it for me at all...I'm literally addicted to good food and would pay what was necessary, within reason, to get it.

If anyone has any out of the box creative thinking on incentives, I'm about 45 pounds over where I need to be right now (not the root cause, but this was definitely aggravated by the pandemic) and 10 years ago when I was running 10Ks, I was 65 pounds lighter and had really excellent endurance.  I wouldn't classify myself as high risk, but I'm definitely headed that way, but the mental block to reverse course is just huge.  I'd welcome some creative motivational ideas, because short of my wife telling me she was leaving me, I'm not sure what gets me back on the wagon.

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts while I've been walking my dog lately, and one I heard a couple days ago was talking about mindset. It said changing a couple words can make a huge difference. Instead of saying you can't have something, say you don't have something.

I never thought about it, but it makes so much sense. About 7 years ago I gave up pop for new years because a few of my students did it and they wanted me to join them. At first it was, "I can't have pop," and it was really tough. I haven't had one since, and now "I don't have pop," and I don't even think about it.

Instead of "I can eat healthy," change it to "I do eat healthy." I'm in the same boat as you, so this coming weekend, I'm going to go through my kitchen and getting rid of anything unhealthy. Also going to try to plan my meals. A lot of my family has struggled with obesity and unhealthy eating over the years, so it is something that is really tough for me to kick.

@Leatherneckshad the best pick percentage this week at 100% (1 for 1).  He just needs to increase his volume if he wants to win.

I, on the other hand, obviously have no fricking clue what i am doing.  I added Blue to the standings so that when all you guys eventually pass me up, I won't be in last place.

I thought we were just going by percentage. I'm killing it!

In my mind there were four blatant PIs that got missed, three of which where by Cincinnati and two of those led directly to points.

The final shot to the end zone Cinci took in the first half, their WR ran into a stationary DB and knocked him down. A penalty would have resulted in a much more difficult field goal for their shaky kicker.

The first drive of the second half when they grabbed Fryfogle’s arm on third down. Who knows what would have come of that drive or the game momentum.

The TD pass where their TE shoved our DB in his back so he couldn’t contest a jump ball.

we did mug them to get the ball back on a third down late.

That one on Fryfogle to start the 2nd half was inexcusable. Right in front of a ref. That crew yesterday was just bad in general. They let so much go and missed so many calls.

  9. I don't think teams get targeted specifically, I just think there is a major bias towards higher ranked teams.

In yesterday's game, there were 3 in play penalties. The McFadden and Allen hits on the QB, and a Cincinnati defensive holding. Everything else was before or after the play.

I'm sorry, but you can't tell me that in around 150 plays, there wasn't a single offensive holding on either team, or defensive pass interference (our 1st drive of the 2nd half there was a blatant one on 3rd down).

On the one play, Allen is literally grabbed and thrown to the ground during the play, no holding. Then the guy dives into him helmet to helmet while he's laying on the ground, no replay.

I think calls on the field are usually more incompetence and bias than corruption, even if they do favor higher ranked teams usually. Calls from the booth however, I have zero confidence those aren't corrupt.

  10. I am so tired of these targeting calls. The guy was going to reach out for the endzone, so he dove at him. It's targeting by the rule, but it is such a garbage rule. It should only be an ejection if you really light somebody up.

Here's an example of what a targeting ejection should look like.
