I can't even imagine how I would react in that situation. You probably handled it better than I would have...I probably would have said "WTF" out loud.
I would have made a fart noise.

Curious, Did you have someone else in mind??
Yeah I had two. One practical and one less than. At the end of the day I don’t get a say.
I will cheer and root as I did before. I just don’t have the warm and fuzzies like some of the others do with this hire.

Meh. Time will tell if it’s a ‘home run’ hire. I hope my meh quickly turns to Yeh!! Let’s go Hoosiers. Welcome aboard Coach!

I know the owners of suite 6. They say Cignetti. Take it to the bank.

ARE would not leave IU if he built a winner here. I firmly believe that.
Another reason to bring him in. Not as a HC. But as an assistant for now. Then when the next coach leaves he’ll slot in nicely.

My order. Gruden. Herman. Candle. Chryst. ARE and/or Frye molded into the staff somehow.

I’m no saying I’m opposed to Gruden as a football coach. I also believe the world is full of hypocrisy and it’s unfair. I’m just saying that I’d be shocked if IU willingly wades into this situation when they have less controversial options.
100% agreed my friend. I will be shocked (but elated) if IU admin were to go with Gruden.

Whatever the details with Gruden, it doesn’t matter. Perception is reality.
From a very recent article about Gruden’s lawsuit against the NFL:“The lawsuit, filed in November 2021, accuses the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell of a "malicious and orchestrated campaign" to force Gruden to resign as the Raiders' head coach by leaking racist, sexist and anti-gay emails that no one disputes Gruden sent.”
it’s just toxic
Yet our sitting president has made toxic racist comments in his past (publicly) and no one bats an eye. It’s amazing the hypocrisy of it all. This isn’t specific to you 13, or anyone else, but an underlining theme regarding agendas and the human psyche. How and when and with who we turn a blind eye to given different players, situations, and scenarios. Fascinating psychological human study really.
Gruden is exactly what IUFB needs right now. Gritty. No nonsense. High football IQ. Moxie. Bring in the AREs and Fryes to be his successor. But he’ll out recruit and out coach any of our past leadership.

I’d love it if it were Gruden. Just don’t see it happening.

I don’t remember the whole context. Regardless, I didn’t meant to offend you. I’m not against analytics so I don’t know what precipitated everything. I don’t remember this chain whatsoever. Hopefully you will stay and post more and we can have lively discussion.
Damn. This could have gone sideways quickly. Well done Bobby!

I don't understand why Justin Frye isn't getting more attention here. Associate HC at the #2 program in the conference (and a top 4 program in the country). Offensive coach. IU grad.
I get he doesn't have HC experience, but let's be honest, any ex-HC is either going to be a retread, or is effectively just as risky (leading EMU or Toledo obviously doesn't guarantee success in the B1G).
Rightly or wrongly, the national perception of this job isn't good. Getting a top assistant from a top program with IU connections would seem to me to be the best chance to hit a HR.
Of any name on the table with zero HC experience he is at the top of my list.

Whatever happened to Mike Ekeler? That dude was a high energy coordinator with what I anticipated to be a bright future. I haven't seen/heard his name called in years.

That's my thought exactly. I would be pretty excited if it were CTH!

What about Tom Herman. I saw that name mentioned on BTB. That wouldn't be a bad grab IMO.

I understand the emotions, but why not wait it out to see who takes over the helm? Ah well. Who knows maybe the next coach will bring in someone.

I just talked to my guy good friend in Bloomington. He was my old college roommate. He worked for IU in sports management and had several connections with former IU players. I just thought I would ask what he thought or heard… This was was his reply and only a rumor of what he heard. Mind you, this is what he has heard, but he said who knows. Take it for what it’s worth. He said his source is from inside athletics…
The rumor over the last few weeks… Is that Allen will be fired and his replacement is Antwaan Randall El. Apparently it’s a done deal. 🤷🏻♂️
Allen is a good guy and incredible values but unfortunately that doesn’t win games.
He will end up a defensive coordinator somewhere. Another rumor is Southern Cal is interested in him for the DC job.
I love ARE. But damn that doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies.

I would doubt he would come here after we hire Allan
There families are way to close and he would feel less me he betrayed him if he took this job.
I view it the other way. I think he would consult CTA who would encourage him to take the job. No animosity.

It is paid in increments over the years left on the contract
I believe his current contract runs through 2026? $20m over 3 years. ~$6.7m/per year. That's easier for the administration to swallow.
-
Is that $20m up front? Or amortized over the course of x # of years? The latter makes the financial pill much easier to swallow.
