Just finished 'Only The Dead' by Jack Carr, the 5th book in the James Reece (Terminal List) series.

The storyline and characters continue to evolve in a positive manner.  A couple of unresolved plot items to carry the series forward into the 6th book.

If you are looking for something to read and don't mind a high level of violence, this series is a good one and it appears it will be around for a while

I read the 4th installment, The Devils Hand, in December. It was the best of the series to this point (barring maybe the first). Can’t wait to get into the 5th one.

    Latest pet peeve:

Armchair coaches who have been beating the same dead horse for the entire season, knowing full well they can't change what Woody does.

It's just fine to voice your opinion on lineups, overhelping, use the last scholarship, sub patterns, (or insert your own suggestion) once or twice. But not every friggin post for 2 months....

There’s a reason I don’t frequent the basketball board.  A handful of posters ruin it. That’s also why i failed as a moderator many moons ago. Lol I couldn’t keep my opinion to myself regarding the aforementioned.

Would you agree, although the boxes have been for sure "meaningless", to this point, CCC has pretty much "checked" them all?

Charismatic/confident/cocky... but has delivered, in a couple of ways. I get the whole "it doesn't matter until August" .. I do. I understand that. Results driven world, as it should be. But it does start somewhere.

    🤷‍♂️

No argument there.  We all know how it is. Been fans for decades. Only to get beat down when our hopes are the highest. I gotta stay low. It’s a psychological thing for me. It’ll make the rise that much sweeter, but make the curb stomping feel less painful.

I think the floor is higher with coach Cig than Allen, but yeah I believe the excitement/optimism is back for sure. I don't see why this team can't go bowling and would think a 7 win season is reasonable. One thing for sure....I feel a lot better about next season now than right before the PU game. Go Hoosiers!!

I want to believe the floor is higher. But until I see it, I just can’t buy it. Is what it is for me.

  5. First round. 6 hrs @ 165*.  Probably could have been 30-60 mins less. But I didn’t want to diverge from the recipe at the first go around.

I’m really happy with the first go around.  A little charred and crunchy exterior but tender after the initial crunch (looks more charred than it is. Maybe that’s homemade jerky for ya).   The flavor is so good. Chili, black and cayenne pepper, smoky. The best doesn’t kick until after you swallow. Could have used a little brown sugar or honey for a sweetness.

I wonder how much the number of games effects the viewership... less games for an NFL team, so they are weighted more than NBA? Missing an NBA game isn't as big of a deal because they play so many and the wait between each usually isn't as long.

This is obviously not a new point, but I'm in the camp that Bowl season is a drag now simply because of over-saturation. With so many options, they hold less and less meaning/importance and have become the equivalent of participation trophies (which on another note makes IU's lack thereof even more sad; but that's a thread for a different day). They ultimately don't mean as much as they should.

I can’t disagree. 17 times to see your team. Or 82 times. Or 162 times. Sounds like economics.

They're not.  Found this just for reference.

Howard vs. Florida A&M in the Celebration Bowl: 1.508 million viewers

Kansas vs. Indiana (basketball): 1.455 million viewers

I think that’s just the byproduct of football being more popular than basketball.  Look at the NFL vs NBA games on Xmas. NBA games were pulling 1.5m-2.5m. NFL games were pulling 20m+.

Stars sitting out has wreaked havoc on gambling. I won’t place wagers any longer on bowl games. It’s too unpredictable.
