Hoosiers have a chance to take the sting out of this loss with a much needed win thursday over 13th ranked OSU. I personally think they will come out fired up and pull out the win and put this crap defeat behind them. 👍

Here's the thing, we could very well win against OSU at home, I almost expect it. The problem with this program and specific group of players is consistency. Time and time again this program wins a game against a good team at home, only to lose to a lesser team away. When is the last time we actually put together a winning streak in conference? Somebody please help me out.

I'll be cautiously optimistic once we stop having the constant let downs and show improvement, until then -- even if we do beat OSU -- I'm expecting more of the same...disappointment.

  2. It may be 1 game but it’s the continuation of the same problems.

Quite frankly it’s embarrassing that the  broadcast kept pointing out we hadn’t won a road game in almost a full calendar year - and I will further add that this road drought is with many of the same players.

If we can’t win on the road against maybe the worst team in the BIG ten where probably no more than 500 fans were present then we’re in trouble. Where does our next road win come?

I said it before in this thread and I’ll say it again…we’re soft.

When I first read this, it seemed like a completely unrelated comment.  After reflecting on it a bit, I wonder If university policies have created the extremely soft loser culture that seems embedded at IU.  Certainly, IU has success in baseball, soccer, women's basketball and swimming, but it seems like the flagship men's basketball and football are just soft and it makes me wonder how much of that softness comes from university administration intent on creating safe spaces and words that don't hurt or offend anyone.  Leaders like Kevin Wilson and Bob Knight were shown the door because they were too hard on kids.  Maybe they were, but a part of me can't help wonder if the pendulum has swung too far the other direction.  Seems like IU has a lot of nice kids and some solid talent but I don't see the fire needed to overcome an opponent having a good day.  I just don't see a team unwilling to accept defeat.

Is Woodson being held back by university policies designed to coddle kids and create protective bubbles around students?  I don't know, but I see disturbing signs that students and athletes are being protected from the harsh realities of a difficult and imperfect world and as a result, don't handle adversity very well when they encounter it.  That was apparent vs. Wisconsin and it appears it showed up in the effort today.  I find it hard to believe that Penn State has more talent than IU.  The only thing I can come up with is that IU has shown a pattern of softness that gives other Big Ten teams confidence that they can beat IU if they stay after it and keep fighting.  They know eventually IU will fold, especially in the absence of a friendly home crowd.  I don't see that being easy to reverse, especially when IU's players live in a soft culture of pronouns, safe spaces and participation trophies.  I hope Woody can create a killer instinct, but I haven't seen that with an IU team in more than 20 years and I don't see it this season either, even in the wins.  I hope it changes and I hope it changes soon, but absent evidence of any real mental toughness, I've learned to temper my expectations.

Yes….and it’s ok to come out and say it. We’re definitely soft. Izzo’s practices are brutal after they lose…this is definitely a big reason why why their program throughout the past 2 decades hasn’t lost much.

  4. Fork in road came for the program back in ‘08. Only five years removed from a National Championship  appearance there was still recent memory of the once great program we were…but “Oh NO! the phone calls… how awful.” What makes it worse is phone calls is legal now and seeing how other programs stuck by their winning coaches for FAR WORSE transgressions makes it even harder to watch. We stick by ours we probably have a couple FF and a title under our belt instead of going through this “endless pit of misery” that IuBB has become.

I still like our coaching staff but man this loss and the past 20 years has me thinking deja vu.

Because there are very few blowouts in tbe conference especially by the road team.

Yes, more often than not blowouts don’t occur for the road team in conference play, however, I think they do happen more than you’re aware…case in point, for the very early part of the season we’ve seen Michigan win at Nebraska by 35 points ( make no mistake, Nebraska has a better home court that PSU), Minnesota win at Michigan by 10 and OSU win at PSU by 12. I don’t have time to look at every BIG team, but there may be more.

PSU is a perennial bad BIG team. I’m not saying a blowout will happen but it could happen, we also may lose. If we lose, make no mistake, it’s a bad loss regardless of venue. There’s no moral victory in losing at PSU. If we finally want to take that next step that we’ve failed to do in the last 20 years (minus the ‘02, ‘08, ‘13 teams) then this is a game we need to win.

In his post game interview, Coach Woodson mentioned that very thing. Getting Durr and Geronimo to play better together is definitely on his mind.

I trust CMW…but I’m curious to see if he actually plays them together much. They were lost yesterday and Geronimo seems to be lost on the floor more often then not….He reminds me of Hanner.

I was at the game. First this year. XJ plays to fast for his own good, bring it down a gear and we'll all love him.. Rob on the move with the ball misses the open man every time. He's taking it to the hole and thats it, to hell with who comes open. Race cant guard the 3 point line at all. The 2nd unit does not trust Durr or Jordan and the ball sticks on the outside. Either Race or TJD need to be in the game at all times. Kopp got beat every time on D. Leal had good mins tonight, nice to see. Parker in the dog house, not good. TJD was a man playing with little boys tonight. By year 3 and 4 we will love Logan Duncomb. I've eaten bigger meals than Tamar Bates, kid needs a gains program now. Fun to be at AH again, you see a lot more live.

I mentioned in the game thread that Durr and Geronimo cannot be playing together. Our 2nd unit was awful tonight. I hope someone on the first unit speaks to them about their careless play this evening. I think we need to shorten our bench to 8-9 players.

If we start landing guys like this, I fully believe Woodson will have us being a load to handle.

UNC is under new management.  Duke is about to be under new management.  The natives are restless down south.  Now is as good a time as any for Woodson to lean on that NBA pedigree and reassert Indiana as a real player for the top kids.  You bring in talent, this staff will win.

You bring up a very good point. This is the type of recruit who would go to UK/Duke/NC in season’s past. I think times are changing for our favor.

Notre Dame is playing really well right now against Western Michigan. I get that the level of competition is a step down, but Notre Dame is running great offense and is incredibly solid defensively right now. They are really fundamental and solid in their decision making tonight. Makes me think that our win against them might be worth something down the line. Also makes me think that we are able to disrupt others in their style of play a bit more than is obvious at first glance...

Western Michigan is truly an awful team. They are one of the worst teams in all of division 1. I would expect ND to look good against them.

Now, ND vs Kentucky is a different story.

Not for this staff. Few come in and start beating quality teams with guys that have never won before.

Let me preface by saying that I really like our staff. I just don’t necessarily agree with this statement and I don’t think our players or coaches would agree either. They would’ve told you we should’ve won this game.

Regarding other teams In similar situations…Iowa state has a new staff and have beaten quality opponents with players who have never won before, same with Cincinnati and Arizona. Hell…even Minnesota has. We were up by 22 points….this game shouldn’t have been lost. I hope we learn from this.

Also, keep in mind…regardless of their ranking, this is one of the least quality Wisconsin teams we’ve seen in a long time. We were picked by virtually every preseason prediction with our “new staff and players that have never won before” to be better than Wisconsin. I hope that is the case at the end of the year.

We dominated the number 22 team in the country on their home court where we have not won in 22 years. We just need to figure out to close games out. I said it after Syracuse it's a learning process

In all fairness, this has been a learning process for the better part of 2 decades with the bball program.

Well i missed the first half someone scored 42 points. It wasnt from walking the ball up the court playing scared against the clock I bet. TJD isnt a pro. Pro's dont get they're butts handed to them by skinny farm boys that will be dentists when done with school. Kid got him on both ends. XJ and RP i'm not even going to talk about. This team has NO POINT GUARD THAT CAN GET THEM ANY WHERE!!! Middle of the pack at best. Durr was the best offensive player in the 2nd half, whats that tell you.

    We’re not very good.
