  1. Yeah, something was really off with Ahrens last year. For three years, he was a guy who'd come in off the bench and just nail dagger after dagger. He never looked confident last season.
  2. Several years ago there was a prominent news story about a rogue investment trader at a major bank that lost $2 billion on unauthorized trades. One of the best lines I heard at the time was, "What do they call a rogue trader who makes $2 billion? Answer: Vice President"
  3. Jerseys4Hope: Hope I'm not stepping over any boundaries here, but I thought the other members may appreciate hearing even more of your story/background. This is the article about you on ncaa.com from 2017. Welcome to the community. https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2017-07-31/college-basketball-super-fan-collects-jerseys-raise-awareness
  4. He's now saying it's not a done deal and removed the tweet
  5. If true, that was a failure by Dolson, Matta or Woodson, or all of the above. “In my mind I started thinking about this team and really based on what Woody was asking me for and what he needed and then knowing in my conversations with Thad, his basketball mind, his knowledge of the business speaks for itself,” Dolson said. “I just started formulating this plan.” Dolson brought it to both Matta and Woodson and they were both on board. Though Woodson said he felt confident in his ability to recruit and coach at the college level after 24 years in the NBA, he liked the idea of having someone with more familiarity with the Big Ten and with recruiting the region. “I’ve watched Thad from afar,” Woodson said. “This is the first time I’ve had an opportunity to sit and talk with Thad. Again, great basketball mind. My ego has always been in tact in terms of being able to accept great basketball minds and what they are thinking. I think that’s healthy from a coaching standpoint and I think it can’t do nothing but help me as I move up the road and try to build this basketball team. I’m grateful that Thad is on board.” https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/dolson-idea-for-thad-mattas-role-came-from-woodsons-willingness-to-collaborate/#:~:text=Indiana hires Mike Woodson as,in charge of men's basketball
  6. Going back just to the basketball aspect, one has to be concerned about relying on XJ to lead the team next year. How much faith can the coaches have that he won’t do something stupid off the court that ultimately leads to a lengthy suspension or dismissal in the middle of the season
  7. Don’t be surprised if Dane Fife joins Matta as AHC
  8. He can really play. In their First Four game, he played 39 minutes, had 37 points & 11 boards on 11-15 from the field and 14-16 from the FT line. Outplayed Kiss, Bryant's hyped player.
  9. UNC’s interior defense has been bad all year.
  10. Probably deserves its own thread 😂
  11. Also, no Pack or Omier? Pack was All Big 12 and Omier was Sun Belt POY
  12. Agree, but it played out on the other end as well. Having their length at the top of the zone was a big problem.
  13. Spot on: First, it was Brandon Triche, getting to the rim with little regard for the 6-foot defender in front of him. Then, it was Michael Carter-Williams following the same formula, rising above his 6-foot defender for easy jump shots and finger rolls. The Indiana backcourt tandem of Jordan Hulls and Yogi Ferrell had no answer for their 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-6 counterparts. And Syracuse exposed the mismatch time and again in its 61-50 win over top-seeded Indiana at the Verizon Center on Thursday night. “Offensively we wanted our guards to go on their little guards,” SU head coach Jim Boeheim said. “That was the best way to play offensively in this game.” https://dailyorange.com/2013/03/carter-williams-triche-punish-smaller-indiana-guards-in-61-50-sweet-16-win/
  14. Agree about Carsen Edwards. Edwards is 5’11, Pack is generously listed at 6’, but was 5’10 at LC. Edwards got drafted and is getting a G League paycheck. Not many 6’ or shorter players in the NBA. He would definitely have a green light at PU. In recent years, Painter has been willing to trade defense for more offense. Right or wrong, Pack just doesn’t seem to fit CMW’s vision of taller, longer perimeter players.
  15. Agree, it’s all analytics. Defense all about the shift. Offense is either home run or strikeout
  16. When I was a freshman at IU in 78-79, I had a small portable TV in my dorm room. I was able to get channel 2 out of Terre Haute and was able to watch a bunch of Indiana ST games during their undefeated season. I’d talk to other guys in the dorm about this amazing Larry Bird guy. They didn’t know who he was and didn’t care.
  17. There are roughly 4,500 D1 scholarship players. About 1,800 transferred last year.
  18. There are potential minuses, it all depends on CMW’s approach and adjustments. Time will tell. “From academic problems to girlfriend issues to players who might have mental health challenges to getting phone calls from parents who are unhappy about how much their son is playing, the college coach has to deal with all of it. You don’t get to clock out, turn off your phone or go on vacation and disconnect. It’s every hour of every day. Totally different job and lifestyle than what Woodson is used to in the NBA. “ https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/7040706002
