  1. MSU sure dodged one here. Fife was just a ticking time bomb
  2. Purely hypothetical, but a highly plausible definition of politics in this scenario would involve Covid and University mandates for vaccines. Is it politics if an assistant coach said to athletes that young healthy people are at low risk of severe Covid, but there is a risk of myocarditis from a vaccine?
  3. Regardless of the details, this situation has been handled poorly. First Woodson issues a statement that makes it clear that Fife was fired, followed by leaks to the press that attack Fife’s character. Not the way to handle it.
  4. Yeah, I suspect his “health” will lead to an announcement that he’s stepping down.
  5. I can’t imagine any 5 star player reclassifying then redshirting.
  6. Sorry, but after 10 years at MSU, I don’t see a guy just going rogue
  7. I would hope every IU coach would say this to current and prospective players
  8. I was referring to this: He told players it is not about NIL and it should be about playing for IU.
  9. Context is important, but this puts me even more solidly in the Fife camp. I bet the St Peters players that beat KY have thought very little about the NIL this season.
  10. Izzo seems like the kind of guy who would have carried an underperforming Fife as dead weight for 10 years.
  11. But it at least gave the outward appearance of continuity, something this program desperately needs.
  12. We have a first year head coach, who turns 64 tomorrow, and the successor in waiting (who bleeds cream & crimson) is leaving after one year. After he spent 10 at MSU, so he's no job hopper. IU will be starting over again in another couple of years. This will really make recruiting difficult.
  13. Something went very wrong here. This from when Fife was hired: But there's something about Indiana. That's always been the case for Fife, who's always wanted to coach at his alma mater, ''but this is the first time I've ever been offered a job to coach at Indiana.'' Coming home was easy, for the most part. Telling Izzo was hard, but the legendary coach understood, too. He knows what Indiana means, and he knows even more so how much Indiana means to Fife "When Coach Woodson called and told me the job and the responsibilities, it was a pretty easy decision for me,'' Fife said. "But leaving East Lansing and that situation and everything that came with it, that was the tough decision, working for literally one of the best to ever do it in my mind. "But to have a chance to work with Coach Woodson, and Coach Matta, and work with someone like Scott Dolson that I've known for 20 years, that's great. That's all great, to work with people that I've respected for a long time. It made it an easy decision.'' Fife packed up quickly after being hired last week and drove straight to Bloomington. His wife Blair and his two young kids will follow once school is over. And then, finally, nearly 20 years later, he will call Bloomington home again. And he's thrilled about that. "Now that I'm back, I guess on the right side, I can't wait to just go sit in the bleachers at Assembly Hall, sit in the chairs where the families would sit. So many stories come back to me, from being in there during practice with Coach Knight or Coach Davis.
  14. Maybe Fife has been recruiting Sparks, but has decided to take the Ball St job and Sparks stays.
  15. From Philly. Could see him at Rutgers for sure.
  16. Duncomb would be all B1G his third year at Wisconsin after barely playing the first two years.
  17. They were affiliated with 5 minor conferences in the NE until being one of the seven founding members of the BE in 79-80. Unfortunately for them, it also included Georgetown, St Johns, UConn & Syracuse. Then Villanova joined the next year. So they were up against Thompson, Carnesecca, Calhoun, Boeheim & Massimino.
  18. That’s a meh hire for them. Mediocre record. 1-5 in NCAAT. No obvious ties to DC area.
  19. "NBA teams were able to see how versatile I can be. I can shoot the ball well, I can handle and pass and play all three backcourt positions and score at all three levels," McGowens said. "And even though we didn't win much, I hope teams were able to see that I have a competitive and winning spirit. I showed I can put on good weight. I came in at 160 pounds, and am now 182. I'm looking for the best team fit now, but would definitely like to squeeze into the lottery. I want to show teams that I'm one of the best players in the draft. " Eleven may be a record for the number of "I's" in one paragraph. There was one "we" about not winning much.
  20. Yeah, different skill set, but Luka Garza would be a good example. Was projected late second round after his junior year. Came back, won national player of the year and was drafted 52nd.
  21. Too bad he committed to University of Indiana, we could have used him. “Newton is one of three juniors on this year’s Rams team who is committed to a Division I college. He committed to the University of Indiana on Oct. 22, 2021, to further his basketball career. “
