My point is not against NIL.  My point is that, if I have a chance at a guard who wants to play at IU for a chance to win and to improve as a player versus a guard who is playing for the money, I want the guy who is looking to improve and win.  Problem is that type of guard may be reluctant to come to IU based on how the IU backcourt was utilized this year.

you know i love old school, but i just don't think that's how it works any more.  the kids who just want to go to IU and just improve and not worried about the money aren't good enough to help us.

  2. i mean, who doesn't like to have talent on their team?  i'm all for getting studs this off season.  will hopefully make next season bearable.  as i said before, does anyone think Woodson can take a group of Purdue type/level of kids and have a good year?  hell no.  he needs all the talent he can get.  that said, i still contend that it will be tough to bring in many that are as highly regarded as Taco or Ware were.  he has Liam.  gonna need at least one more stud and that's assuming Taco is back.  Reneau?  Galloway?

I think the mods should lock this thread and move us to the Woody is returning thread.  Too much too track 😂.

Also I really like what someone said in the transfer thread, extra money doesn’t solve the transfer portal.  It’s a ready, aim, shoot approach.  Other schools have just as much money, the coach and structure are the key.

i absolutely don't think we should give up on this thread until the final buzzer sounds.  i don't put it past Woodson to still seal his fate by season's end!

Would like to believe it's #3, but yesterday's news seems too definitive for that. I think there would have been other ways to give a vote of confidence that were less definitive if that was the purpose.

but was it?  who was the source?  it's not like Dolson or someone else was quoted as saying Coach Woodson is our guy or whatever.

I can say this with almost certainty. Woodson doesn't care what the roster looks like after next year. He's all in on winning next year.

honestly i'd just like to win any year.  next year would be a good one.  the big year we had with JHS and TJD together was not quite as much as i would have hoped.

I will say this.  If IU's recent 4 game losing streak was now sitting as a 7 game losing streak, I think you have to remove 'never' from your statement.  What did the two game winning streak before last night do?  It guaranteed a non-losing record, and at that point the optics of firing him became murkier.  Regardless of what the product looks like on the court (and, honestly, we all have to admit this season has not been pretty), it would be hard to fire a legacy coach who never had a losing season and had been to the tournament 2 out of 3 times.  Frankly, if the fan base wasn't already out of sorts from the latter Crean years and all of Archie's tenure, there would not be so much discontent.

Bottom line is that I don't believe the administration wanted to fire him, and the recent spurt of better play has give them the 'evidence' they were looking for as justification.

All that said, optics or not, I would have been more excited headed into next season with Bruce Pearl as the head coach.  That's MY reality, but it is what it is, and I'm still an IU fan, as I have been for over 50 years.

this is kind of where i'm at...i believe that they really want to keep him one more year, but had it gone how i thought and we were at that 7 game losing streak, it would be so so ugly.  i mean look how bad it is even with a couple wins.  had to make an announcement that he'll be back?  just a shame that we have to wait another year to start the rebuild.  so... i hope we can defend our home court vs MSU and win a couple rounds of BTT.  then retain Taco, MR, and Liam.  pray we get stud guards and that Woodson can't mess up that much talent too badly!

Ware's going pro, but retain Malik, Mgbako and Galloway. Recruit the portal to fill around them, and McNeeley, with skills that balance the roster. Go all in on the '25 class over the summer and give us some promise for the future. Realize after a rough season that your coaching will need to adapt to play a winning style of basketball.

There's a path there. I make no assurances it will happen, or even that it's likely, but this what I hope to see. A year from now we'll have our answer, one way or another. I don't see the worth in getting upset about bad things that haven't happened yet. I love Indiana Basketball, but it's just a game. When my team loses it just means I didn't get to enjoy a win, doesn't affect my life any more than that. So I'm going to hope Woodson makes the most of this opportunity right up until I'm proven wrong.

i mean this is a classic case of me hoping i'm wrong for being pessimistic.  would be so glad to be wrong about Woodson and he leads us to a National Championship.  i just don't believe in dragons or unicorns.

  8. i'm not convinced that that announcement really means anything.  things may very well get even uglier.  maybe Woodson gets tired of it all?  there aren't any quotes from IU officials in there.  if he is back, we'd have to have Liam at the 3, Mtaco at the 4, and Reneau at the 5 along with 2 stud guards.  if we are so talented that even Woodson can't mess it up, i could see a good season.  like say, JHS and TJD.  thing is, Taco doesn't want to play the 4 and Reneau doesn't want to play the 5.  so embarrassing that we have to announce that our coach won't be fired in season and that we don't care about winning.  let's just postpone one more year before we even try to be good again.
