  1. Getting an early start on drought season this year. No rain or snow in over 2 weeks and rain chances over the next 10 days are minimal. A lot of yellow lawns out there right now.

I usually don't mind having a few days of unseasonably warm weather in February, but this mild spell lasting over a week is messing with my internal clock and making me think it's already spring. Kind of wish we'd get some snow just to sort of normalize things.

14 years ago was Crean's second season...I had a hunch I knew what game it was, and I was right: a 58-43 home loss to Iowa. We actually had a stretch of good play before that game and then royally crapped the bed. There were rumors later on that most of the team had stayed at a party until 5 a.m. the night before the game.

It wouldn't ever be a result of a coach, though, right? They only vote on the Top 20 across all classes. These mistakes are always the media.

I guess I was thinking football. I'm not sure who actually casts these votes.

Whoever they are, somebody gave 2-10 Southern Wells a vote this week, and apparently people voted for a school that closed 4 years ago.

The whole Dusty May thing drives me nuts. If he didn't attend IU we would he insulted by anybody suggesting he should be the coach at IU.

He has a decent overall record, with ONE high level result. One!!!

But he is somehow the future?

Maybe he will become great. But he has no track record to speak of. One good season.

Furthermore, look where he eas in his 3rd season at FAU. He was no better year three than Woodson is now at IU.

    I just don't get it.

How he would fit at IU is more important to me than his prior results. I think Dusty May understands what he'd be getting into and what is expected here. Archie Miller wasn't ready for this and it was obvious from day one. Mike Davis was overwhelmed by that pressure as well. Mike Woodson looks burned out and coaches either like it's 1980 or he's still in the NBA, sometimes both.

I don't think anyone should be insulted by the consideration of May. The pool of coaches we could realistically select from isn't getting bigger with time.

Does the staff not even look at data at all?

I'm not convinced they do. They would say they do if someone asked, but I'm not sure they care enough to try and understand any of it. If they did, they would realize we take too many shots just inside the arc and hit a low percentage of them, and would then address it by telling these guys to stop taking those shots. But they don't. Woodson is stuck in 1980 where 3's didn't exist and efficiency wasn't a thing yet.

That was either an accident or someone just being stupid.

I've found that it's usually the result of coaches selecting from a drop-down menu and tapping the adjacent team instead of the one they meant to choose. But in this case I can't figure out who they meant to vote for.

Everyone can see it’s not working. Once it’s starts to affect recruiting, it’s completely over.

It already has. We have one recruit signed for next season. One. At this point last year we only had Cupps and Newton. Maybe he'll get lucky and another 5 star will de-commit from somewhere. That's about the only way he can get them here. High schoolers aren't buying whatever he's selling.

Anymore I just marvel at how we can go through so many coaches and get the same awful results.

See if any of this sounds familiar.  IU goes an the road against a good team and gets curb stomped on National TV, because:

    • They can’t shoot
    • They turn the ball over
    • They can’t hit free throws
    • They can’t defend the three
    • They can’t match the energy level of the opponent.
    • Some “unknown” player has a career night

    WTH, is this crap contagious?

The difference is this was an atypical performance from the women's team. We've come to expect a lot of these problems from the men's program. The women are a lot better than what we saw last night.

I don't know college hoops anymore. Just get in the tourney and get hot.

Trouble is, it's hard for this program to even make the tourney anymore. I'm old enough to remember our fans complaining about how awful we were in the 2000's because we missed the tournament twice. That was the last time we had 3 consecutive tournament appearances. Incredible, really.

  10. I'm not saying I want Woodson gone, but it's just hard for me to believe there isn't somebody out there who could bring better basketball to this program. We didn't have to be amazing this year but there's really no good excuse for this trash.

I'd like to consider myself fairly knowledgeable about college basketball. Sure, there are my people that know way more than I do, but I still feel like I'm pretty 'in-the-know' when it comes to teams around the country.

But when I looked at today's scoreboard, I barely recognize any of the names.

Prairie View A&M vs NORTH AMERICAN

TEXAS A&M COMMERCE vs ARLINGTON BABTIST

    Pacific vs STANISLAUS STATE

TARLETON STATE, LeTOURNEAU, McPHERSON, ECCLESIA, BLUEFIELD UNIVERSITY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Who are these teams and what fictional locations do they "reside"?

Don't forget Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Peter's. Who ever heard of those teams and where are they located?

At the very least, I want to see this team play with their hair on fire because this is basically a do or die game if you don’t want to be biting your nails come selection Sunday.

Not sure I'd call a December non-conference game "do or die" for our postseason hopes, but we could certainly do ourselves a huge favor by winning.

I think the thing that frustrates me the most is that I’m not sure what the future (beyond this season) will hold. Will we accept a program that will make it to the second weekend every 4 years? Is that success for us?

I know people don't like to keep blaming past mistakes, but Archie Miller should have been out the door after that NIT loss to Wichita State. That season with Romeo was just such an epic disaster. Probably my least favorite IU team of all time. Miller was in over his head after that (heck, even before then) and everybody knew it. Keeping him for 2 more seasons just suffocated this program and any excitement surrounding it. The apologists kept saying "you can't fire him after 2 years because who would want to come here?!!" Gee I don't know, maybe the IU alum who wanted the job when it was open last time and the guy we ended up hiring two years too late.

I'm always kind of intrigued and wondering what could have been when I imagine Woodson starting in 2019, then having a team that actually got better and trended upward during the Covid year. Maybe he doesn't get stuck playing Archie's style for so long if we hadn't given Archie so much time to ruin everything.
