"pretending it is all just execution is nothing more than passing the buck"
But yet--- it's some MASSIVE issue when he calls out players after a game? Crazy.

And who constructed that roster and thought XJ and Galloway were enough at the guard spot?
Oh yea, Woodson.
Malik and Ware were our best players but they could have staggered the minutes as much as possible.
Pretending it is all just execution is nothing more than passing the buck. He put the system in place, he put the players in place and he has stunk it up... just like he stunk it up in the NBA.
Jesus christ lol... I said "Woodson is a fair amount to blame for that"--- verbatim said that.

A draft bust QB to a washed up WR, the stuff of dreams!
It's absolutely wild man. Carolina is a joke.

dang it... you just hate that for our B1G brethren.

Poor roster management is part of coaching.
Even with poor roster management, he still underachieved and was for some reason attached to buddy ball in the post. He even pretended like it was working well and just needed to better execute or something to that effect. Completely delusional.
For the guy that promised 4 out, 1 in and fixing our shooting woes when he arrived 3 years ago, he has done nothing of the sort. Over promised, under delivered and if it wasn't for TJD, we would have even more people calling for a change of coaches.
underachieved? I don't agree. Going 19-14 with that group was about all the juice we were getting out of them. Once XJ was hurt, ineffective, and selfish.... we were doomed. (a fair amount of that Woodson is to blame)... but I 100% think 19 wins was about that group's ceiling.
the "buddy ball" talk is wild... Malik and Ware had to play and had to play together. They were our best two players.
We did need better execution, he was right.

More home games = more money. That is why you see all these money games early in the season. Also teams do this to get more wins to pad their resume
The bold doesn't make any sense to me. Play 24+ conference games and the ability to pad anything will be lost.
I would guess conference home games make quite a bit more money than non-conf games, and you'd be getting, at least, two more of those. I still see very little need to have 9 games between the teams I mentioned, including the two exhibitions (which dear god are the biggest waste of 80 mins per year)...
"more games" ==== dump the exhibitions and add two conference games. That at minimum is a route I would take.

There are way too many B1G teams. Having a 20 game schedule with only three home and homes is ridiculous. Conference regular season is meaningless. No way you can balance the schedules
I'd prefer to go with a 24/26 games conference schedule... I don't understand, I have never understood, why P5 schools need to play 7 games and 2 exhibitions against Harvard, Kennesaw St, UIndy, North Alabama, FGCU, Morehead St, Wright St, FGCU, and Marian. Shit is boring to me.
Dump the exhibitions totally-- we played 31 games last year--- make that 33 games (including the exhibitions)--- 24 conference games-- you'd go from 3 home and homes to 7.
9 non-conference? Could go 26 conference games and then you'd get 9 home and homes (over half the league), and you'd have 7 non-conf games.... schedule 3-4 cupcakes and then 3-4 big times games/tourneys.
What's wrong with this route?

I just saw an article where the person wrote our last two signings will be AH and Baba Miller. I haven’t heard his name discussed once in here. Thoughts everyone?

The problem is that I doubt we can get much better than this guy for our backup 5 position. Anyone good enough will want more playing time than we can offer at that position.
I don't care about "level of good"... I care about "what are their best abilities", Hatton isn't a rim protector, at all, nor a stellar athlete.
His ability to shoot would benefit us zero in the long run, IMO, compared to a better rim protector.
I also would prefer someone with more than one year of eligibility left. Hatton also very much struggled against P5 last season. I think we can do better.

With the loss of Minor and picking up Warnell, I wonder if Toomer moves back to corner? Feels like we need another boundary corner with solid size. Hoping guys like JoJo Johnson, Jamier Johnson and Jamari Sharpe take a step forward. I’d think we’d want one more upperclassman transfer.
Our slot corners seem solid with the transfers like Doss and the new JMU player who looks like he might be coming.
I want Ponds!!
Buuuut.. I don't think the lack of size is going to make them only slots corners.
Basically, so far, our staff has shown to not care (currently) about the size of any of these defensive guys. We've grabbed undersized dudes at all three levels.

Just reviewed the new sectional assignments. Have you guys started clearing space in the trophy case yet for 2 more sectional championship trophies? Is it safe to say that Paoli is the only team in the sectional that should come within 5 TDs of Brownstown?
Speaking to some coaches that play Tell City, they think they'll be much improved this year. They have a big SR class and twin brothers who are studs, Paoli also brought a lot back.
Ironically, we also bring quite a bit back (we did lose more than the other two teams).. but we started 8 sophomores last year and still went undefeated in JV plus the 8th grade was undefeated.
But don't kid yourself, we're very happy with this alignment after the last 6 years (3A for 4, 2A for 2) having a Top 5 ranked team in our sectional.

Silver Creeks sectional is going to be very open. BNL Martinsville are probably the best teams, but they aren't powers.

That sucks. Hope Direct TV is not impacted. I thought Bally was in a better place than at this time last year.
What's the ultimate solution here?
They can't not show these games...

Mike Woodson to return as coach next season
in General Basketball Discussion
Posted · Edited by btownqb
19-14 was last season's ceiling. The fact that is where the ceiling was is the issue.
"pretending roster limitations was a defense"--- no, It's just stupid to make yourself have to play CJ Gunn, Sparks, Banks, Cupps, and Walker 900+ mins in conference play. No coach comes out of that successful.
