In general I am very optimistic when it comes to recruiting.  For 21 I just can get past an overwhelming sinking feeling I. My stomach.  I hope I am as wrong as can be, but not getting a good feel about our top targets. I am afraid this will turn into a Plan B class which might not be a bad thing but I just dont see it shaping up to be the class we all hoped it would be

I have the same feeling unless we really prove on the court this year we can win. That will go a long ways with 2021in my opinion.

If you can get 6 quality guys you take them.  I think Archie has learned that a bird in the hand if worth more than 2 in the bush.  Now you don't reach for a project like a Jake Forrester but if you can get 5-6 quality guys like Galloway, Leal and Geronimo you take them.  There's no guarantee we get any of the 2021 guys and I don't think we currently lead for any except Lander.

    And Kaufmann

I think the kid has a high upside but he is 6’4. Cross can play a position that he can’t. I just like Cross’s size and toughness a bit more but certainly nothing wrong with this kids game. I mean we already landed Leal, Franklin, and Galloway I’m not sure who loses their minutes there. In a vacuum I’d say sure...but for what we need Cross I think is the better fit.

For some reason I thought he was like 6”6 or 6”7.. cross would be a better fit then

I’d argue it’s Painter’s job to do the best to prepare them for the league/get them to the league and feature them as much as he can at Purdue. Once they get there, it’s on the players.

Let’s look at Thomas Bryant. He was a good college player but he was drafted mid 2nd round. I’d argue you can attribute his success to his work ethic/what he’s done since he got to the league. It was far from a sure thing when he got drafted that he’d pan out so kudos to him. I didn’t think he’d end up being as good as he’s been.

Ok I where you are coming from but I’m going to tweak what you are saying just a bit.

I knew Bryant always had a chance to make it because he has the ability to stretch the floor out to 3 point line and make shots (he showed that at IU) credit Crean for developing that. I didn’t think he would be able to guard guards off pick n rolls on the perimeter in NBA (something he struggled with at IU) Crean was absolutely horrific at pick n roll coverages btw. Credit Bryant  he has showed a ton of improvement on that in NBA.

IU has had bigs the NBA is looking for more these days. Zeller, Vonleh, Bryant all are right at 7 foot and are capable of stretching the floor and making shots.

PU bigs have been back to the basket types that no longer exists in the NBA. They were good college players their games just don’t translate to next level. Swanigan had the best shot at it he was just undersized. So maybe it’s just PU style to recruit and get the giant bigs who can’t move and throw the ball to em down low 20 times a game. But if you want to be developed and go to NBA PU probs not your greatest choice if you are a big.

How Purdue will play through their bigs is a big part of their recruiting pitch. There was some stat a few years back about post touches or something like that and Purdue was near the top. Whether it’s Hammons, Swanigan, Johnson, Landry, Haas, etc... they were featured prominently in the offense.

Yes Pu Plays through bigs in the post. Get bigs in the NBA? Negative.

  6. Didn’t pay much attention to this kid until now. Just watched his Hudl Tape and came away very impressed. Very explosive, great shot blocker, nasty dunker in traffic, can pass!, and can shoot it a little (40%) from three! Reminds me of Draymond Green honestly. He does it all like Green just more explosive. Not sure what Green was ranked coming out high school?

i know why Crean is on him he could be the next OG or Oladipo. Looks like a lot of talent waiting to be unlocked.

I would be very excited if he choose IU! Seems like fierce competitor to. Just shows me again that Archie really has an eye for talent! I’ve Really been impressed with the guys we are targeting for 2020. I Love Cross and this guy! IU is in great hands!

I really hope Vic can come back and play at the same level he was playing at. I was at the game where he got hurt and man you could hear a pin drop. I stopped caring a long time ago that he played at IU because the dude plays his ass off and is a hell of a player for my favorite NBA team. Hoping to a full recovery and hopefully back before Christmas.

I don’t think will ever see the same Vic at least not this year but im hoping for the best.
