"It's not hard to stay ready." That's what Leal said about the opportunity in his post game interview. This is the kind of player you want at Indiana. I don't care that we barely won, that we did a screw job on a 15 point lead and that Iowa might suck. The fact of the matter is this is kind of kid we want on this team. If the rest of this team comes with 1/2 the preparation and heart the Leal comes with then good things will happen. I say let the Former Indiana Mr. Basketball and Bloomington South Guard loose at Purdue. I say ride or die with the Leal Estate Agent. I know I'm not supposed to be excited about this win but I got hyped up when I heard him Leal "It's not hard to stay ready."

Those are the type of players that will run through a brick wall for you.

When Leal said, (paraphrase) "I can't wait to put on this IU jersey every game!,".....That says all you need to know about buy-in and commitment to this team, coaches AND Indiana University.

Cupps. Stone cold. Now all eyes on injuries. Ware's presence was obvious. Hope we get Malik and X back.

As a fan this was a weird one. So happy, so ticked, so ticked, so happy...and a big sigh of relief. Onto the next.

That is the kind of play I was expecting from Cupps. I feel he has been holding back his scoring attempts a little for fear of missing and thinking too much. JMO

    Pacers win 133-131

    Booker 62 points.

Last two games we snapped the Sixers 6 game won streak and the Suns 7 game streak

…..just looking over the Pacer’s stats and current place in the standings. We are sitting at 26-20, 6th in the East, 3 games behind 5th place NY and 9.5 out of first.
The way we’ve been playing, lately, especially since picking up Pascal, feels/seems like we are the best team in the East, if not the top 5 in the NBA. Get Tyrese back to full strength and acclimated with Pascal, we could be nasty..…JMO

I’m of the belief that IU is in a really good spot with this recruitment.

Honestly, that’s good to hear…. At this point in the season, it’s got to be hard to sell a player with our current struggles. If a player can see through all this and know how and where he can help, has to help. I also wonder if McNeeley is still trying to pull him?

  5. .....When one your best players is admits there is disconnect with the team, that's when you know it's bad.

Disconnect can be like a Cancer that to a team. The big difference is, disconnect is mental and can be fixed through respect, attitude change and winning.

“We’ve got to figure out how to be one on the court,” Reneau said. “I feel like we’re kind of disconnected in some ways.”

“I feel like the disconnection starts when [opponents] go on their runs,” Reneau said, “and I feel like we start to not trust each other.”

This gonna get ugly. Hoosiers are only 40 years into the 100 year curse like the cubs went into. Sad to say, but the wheels totally come off now. I'm so sad that I have to admit this. Tragically pathetic. Sorry guys. I'm 100% sunshine, but the sun done setted on this program.

And Dusty would be a total fool to even accept a phone call. We have gremlins thanks to Myles Brandt. Pour out some piss on his grave !

It’s our guards.  They aren’t good.  We can stomp our feet all we want but nothing will make them good.   I like the guys individually but collectively they aren’t good enough.   If a Bailey or Edwards or Alford was in there, then others would look better than they are.  X would be addition by subtraction.

This is not a problem this year only. Phinisee. Devonte.  Durham. X.  On and on.  The one solid year we’ve had in the last several, we had JHS.   Again, it doesn't matter if we like each of these guys one by one, as a group our guards have not been good enough and it puts a ceiling on us.   If you have really good college guard, you aren’t getting spanked by a lowly Rutgers squad.  You are not getting your ass handed to you at home by Purdue etc.

Lance Jones.  Domask, the kid Illinois got.  Michigan State gets guys from lower levels.  There are ton of mid major kids who stepped up to this level.   Indiana State is 15-3 and way ahead of us according to all the metrics.  They have two in-state guards who are filling it up from 3 and they are fifth in the nation from 3.  There is absolutely no way it’s justified to turn your nose up at guys like that because it was Dalton Knecht or bust.  Supposedly they learned their lesson and we will get an influx this year.

I like Newton and Gunn but this is a collective issue.  They aren’t shooters.  We need SNIPERS and guards who can carry the load.

Look at X’s stats from yesterday.  Good grief.  He’s a low 3 star guard and that’s what he’s been.   We’ve all hoped he would play consistently and look at that debacle.

ESPN gives IU a 15% chance

I like our chances..... Not gonna lie, there is always something special about being the favorite. However, being the underdog always fuels you play harder with the opportunity to upset the favorite.

How do you think Knight would have handled a player who got got ejected and cost the team? How would he have handled a team with so many recurring fundamental and mental mistakes? I think that’s what embarrasses Evans.

Coming from a huge Knight fan and follower since the 70's........we all know what Coach Knight would have done. With Knight, there was black and there was white, no grey area. I'm not saying that was good or bad, we just knew what would happen in any situation like this with Knight.

I know this is sarcasm, but how would you answer it honestly? Both Woodson and Evans played four years under Knight, and had fantastic careers. Both were first round NBA draft picks, though Woodson had the much better playing career. And when his playing days were done, Woodson spent another 20+ years coaching at the highest level of the sport, and has spent three years adapting to the college game, for better or worse. Evans has no coaching experience that I could find. There's no appeal to authority argument that favors Brian Evans over the coach we have  right now in the arena, putting in the work and doing the damn thing.

I didn't listen to the interview. I did read the quotes in the article. Evans sounds like any other keyboard warrior of a certain age I meet here and elsewhere, mad at Xavier Johnson and wanting to bring the program back to the ways of Bob Knight. I want that level of success too, but if it were as easy as flicking a switch I'm sure Woodson would have found it. Yet now, less than three years in, after one of the better seasons this program's had in two decades, Evans is ready to call the Woodson era over? Frankly it's disappointing anyone would platform an opinion like this, just because the guy once played for IU 30 years ago. When people talk about the Indiana program eating its own, this is a pretty fine example.

    Well written......

  11. I was just reading an article on ESPN about UCLA getting beat by 46 pts. to Utah. UCLA has now lost 8 of 9 games and appear to be in some sort of a tail spin. Mick Cronin's roster has a some NBA talent, but he gave an interesting take on the current state of his team.

"I think guys got punch-drunk," Cronin said after the loss. "They're good kids. We don't have bad kids, trust me. They listen. They're embarrassed, but that doesn't help. I was concerned with this. They're punch-drunk and you've got to fight your way out of it. I've been there before. It's been a while, but I've been there before."

This sort of reminded of me of our team a little after a few of our disappointing losses. I've often wondered if this carries over?  We play gun shy and a little nervous. JMO.

X a captain? The culture and decision making we see from the team is a product of X’s leadership. There is none. Woodson should’ve told him to go on his merry way at the end of last year (his 5th college year).

In all honesty, Leal is the only Senior worthy of being the team captain. Although he doesn't get the playing time of a Captain (he should be playing more than he does), but he definitely has the leadership skills, respect and admiration from coaches, player and fans. MHO....

If we'd defensive rebound better, we could run more 🤦‍♂️🤬

    It's a simple game.

Every other team is doing 2nd grade math flash cards

We are trying to work through a calculus problem 🤦‍♂️

Is it just me,.....but why is there never anyone around basket to rebound after we attempt a 3 or longer outside shot? We never have an option to put it back up or pass back out?

  14. 7 minutes ago, 13th&Jackson said:

    Yeah, no chance of that.

The only way I could see Dolson and the boosters even briefly entertaining the idea, is if we completely bomb the rest of the season, coaches unable to agree/work together with Woodson, multiple players wanting to transfer and 24' commits backing out. This sounds similar to what was happening with Coach Miller before he was fired. JMO

Yes I get what you're saying, but again, if having the ingredients we did last year and what was supposedly such a good job from Woodson, resulted in what it resulted in as the ceiling then what does that tell us?

Having players that special that were that in tune with their coach should have resulted in more, and a down year shouldn't be this down. We had a generational player in TJD, we had a lottery pick point guard, we had two more guys playing pro ball with a ton of experience and skillset (although criminally underutilized in the case of Kopp).... and we got blown out in round 2 and didn't compete for a conference title? And that's when we do have all the ingredients?

.....bottom line. This team reminds me of a car when the check engine light comes on. lol

Does Woodson need a TJD like player every year (plus a JHS, an elite shooter he didn’t use enough in Kopp, and a really steady vet like Race) just to do what we did last year?

I mean it’s year three, and we keep hearing about the new faces, what does it say about Woodson if they already are tuning him out.

I get what you’re saying about the players having ownership, but doesn’t the coach have ownership. Woodson knows basketball but he isn’t taking ownership of this program.

I just want a player, any position with the smarts, heart and motivation to not let your team down.

Does anyone really know what goes on behind the scenes? What do all the assistant coaches think of this team, or of Coach Woodson? Is there actual disconnect with the players and coaches or even between players? I don't know.

I mean, TJD and JHS both credited Coach Woodson for his influence and player development on them.  If there is ongoing negativity, disagreement or disconnect from just one of the above, then that is why we aren't getting better right now. JMO
