    Welp Howard canned at Michigan

I know he piggybacked off Coach B’s success but dude still won them a regular season conference title, S16, and E8 birth. If Woody did any of that he would be given a 10 year contract, not a pink slip. If not for admissions, Howard also would have TSJ and Caleb Love as his back court.

Wild to me that successful football schools like Michigan and Ohio St have less patience for mediocrity/higher standards than us.

  2. Sorry if it’s been mentioned but Jeff Goodman is suggesting today that Dusty May will likely have the chance to choose between Louisville or Ohio St as his next coaching gig. Know West Va is interested as well.

Wonder how our fanbase will feel if/when that happens, especially if Woody has another subpar year next season.

Sucks  IU fans were the reasons recruits don’t want to come here…if only we had classy fans and players like Duke…maybe we could make another final 4 this century.

They aren’t just toxic towards their rivals, but towards their team too! Even calling out individual players!

Guess Coach Scheyer will have to hit the recruiting trail hard today to somehow find 13 new scholarship players from this expected mass exodus due to fan toxicity!

Trying to follow from work. Lot’s of layers to this thing, and seems to be a lot of unnecessary anger out there for sure. Same effect social media has had on politics and so many other areas of life these days.

I don’t think Woodson is the coach for IU in the future, or the present for that matter. The charade is over, now that TJD is gone, and negative recruiting has evidently hurt us for the Class of ‘24.

Having said all that, I can’t imagine booing our kids on Senior Day, and loudly booing our coach who was a legend here after 3 short seasons. I have seen engagements between DD and one of CMW’s daughters on Twitter in the past, and I can only think about how bad Archie Miller’s wife ( for those who remember-Wayyyy above his pay grade) was treated by our fans on social media.
Do I want him gone? Yes. Do I want a whole new staff,  minus Calbert and Hulls? Yes.
But this shouldn’t be rising to the level of hate and vitriol that it seems to be getting to, and our recruiting competition is licking their chops, hoping it continues. Hoping this resolves itself before things truly get out of hand.
It can only be a bad look for us and will enable recruiters to adversely affect our ability to sign players moving forward, or hire coaches for that matter.

Very well said. I consider myself a pretty pessimistic fan and am as upset/angry/depressed as the rest of you, but we literally have one more home game left. Show love and appreciation for the seniors and try to will this team to finish as strong as possible. Guys like X and Gallo have been through a lot on and off the court and deserve to go out on a high note.

Let’s say we all get our wish and Woody is fired, do we really want Mullins, Sisley’s, and potential portal players to have that be their last impression? Like you said, negative recruiting is already easy with us so let’s not make that worse than it is.

We have over 760,000+ alumni, so even if a fraction of those send emails to Dolson and BOT, they’ll get the message. If Assembly hall is empty, they’ll get the message. If they hear us cheering super loud for the players and suddenly you can hear a pin drop when they call Woodsons name, they’ll get the message.

I would just prefer we find healthier and more effective methods to express our displeasure.

That's why I'm really confused. The Pearl stuff was coming from Dolson's side of things and there were some people from Pearls side as well. Things got louder earlier on Wednesday and then the leak happened Wednesday night. Since then things have gotten quiet. That's why I'm not entirely sure this is a done deal but I do think that some people got told to shut the **** up.

I was gonna say this a while ago when a lot of fans went to Twitter to talk about Pearl to IU but I would be happy if no more info came out there. If any of this were true, I would prefer Auburn be in the dark as much as possible so Dolson can lock in a deal and prevent Auburn from countering with whatever he wants.

Who knows, maybe Dolson is doing what he did with the football coaching search and has a great pick lined up but tosses a couple names out there to throw off the scent of what he’s really going for. Not sure we get Coach Cig if other programs knew he was available for talks.

As both of them said, literally “insane” what Coach Woodson is doing and how he’s sticking around another year.

Was nice to hear both of them say the fan rumor with Liam was a cop out and nonsense. Carter even admitted Michigan state Twitter would have been an all time meltdown mode if this was happening and they at least have Izzo as their coach.

Why everyone else can see the sinking ship but those in power to make a change at IU is unfathomable.

  7. At this rate, what is there even to discuss about keeping Woody around any longer from the BOT and booster side?

The only momentum he had was keeping Reneau/Mac/Liam/Gallo. Arguably your biggest impact player already left for greener pastures. We already have Reneau/Mac/Gallo on the team and that isn’t enough to make the tournament. We have no recruits and no clear targets lined up. Our style of play is ineffective/outdated and doesn’t attract the necessary pieces to fix. Woody tries to sign the best high schoolers in the country each year who only want to play for one year in college. He’s struck out because he’s tone deaf and thinks he has the credibility of a Coach Cal or Self whose resumes speak for themselves. Then he complains we’re “too young” so he’ll try and get upperclassman who will also leave after 1 year. Not gonna get any multi year guys because they’ll be well aware he’s on the hot seat and don’t want to transfer again. Any time Woody has a press conference he puts his foot in his mouth and every national media outlet quote tweets him and pushes more negative recruiting. We’re now likely heading into year 4 with our worst team assembled in a long time and added tougher non conference games like the Maui invitational and Kentucky series. Not to mention, Assembly Hall will be dead and NIL donations will dry up this off-season.

I saw someone on Trilly’s board say something akin to Bill Self wrapping this up in the last several to few weeks. And the reasons for the switch probably due to other things I’ve seen tonight - style of play, etc, including possibly CMW not having talked to him after signing. You have to think if that’s the case, potentially waiting for a different direction & coach were behind him not decommitting earlier. Only Liam and his family know 100%, and as much of a gut punch as this is as an IU fan, I truly do wish him the best going forward, most likely at Kansas.

And wow is this a gut punch. When I saw the news on Twitter, I gasped so loudly my daughter thought someone had died. Her words, not mine.

    Just saw this on Twitter.

Still really puzzled with the timing. It’s not like our style of play changed suddenly, so why did Liam and his family decide to kick the dog while it’s down? Not that I blame his choice, just lost a little respect for him and his family for piling it on.

It's not the fans. Every fanbase is negative when losing. There's a team to the south that calls for their coach to be fired after every loss.

While I’m happy to acknowledge that things have been way too toxic from the fanbase on social media this year, a big reason why Liam was so high on IU in the first place was the fan support and attention he received.

That's what's going on. Simons and Buckner weren't on board with a change so Woodson is back with a lot of NIL money. Basically IU is planning on buying a team in the portal. So we'll see what happens. What could go wrong?

Laughing because why wouldn’t you have just given him the money this past offseason so he could land the players he wanted/needed and put us in the best position to string back to back successful seasons? Now all the momentum built from last year has evaporated and Woody has to convince guys to come despite being on the hot seat, which will be brought up by other schools.

Not to mention, not like you need all the money in the world to field a good team. You can field a top 25 team with just Indiana kids (see Purdue) or mid major guys (Domask, Jones, Knecht, Nelson, Dennis, Abmas, Baldwin, Battle, Estrada, Timberlake, etc) that don’t demand as much compensation.

.....What else do we have to look forward to now that the coaching situation has been decided, at least for next year? I was all for a change, but this is the reality right now. I am tired of being bitter and angry and need to move on. I was born and raised an IU fan, that will never change.

I actually watched and enjoyed the entire game last night without my BP alarming my Apple Watch. I can only hope and pray that Woodson will rebuild a much better staff, retains key starters and lands some much needed players in the portal.

My thing with the staff rebuild is how in the hell would Woody be able to make any recommendations there. He’s never coached or recruited college basketball before IU, so how is he gonna make a wish list. This just feels like he’s gonna hire his friend Kenny Payne when he gets fired this year and we won’t be off any better because Payne has been the laughing stock of college basketball the past 2 years and no recruit will want to play for him.

Paying a man 4 million a year just to hold his hand through every step.

I never got this argument. Yes Archie got a 4th year, but his 3rd year was his best so you could argue things were trending in a positive direction. His 4th year also was a disaster that became very toxic, so no idea why that’s pointed to like it was a successful example. If anything, it’s an example of what it could look like if things go poorly.

It’s a moronic justification. It’s not like giving Archie Miller an extra year resulted in us winning big and extending him an extra 5 years and providing stability for this program. It just delayed the inevitable by a year.

I’m not buying that Pearl isn’t the guy. He’s Dolson’s top target I don’t think that’s changing. When Dolson locks in on someone he makes them say no before he moves on and that’s what will happen this time.

If Pearl ends up using us as leverage and stays at Auburn and Ohio St hires May before IU can fire Woodson, is there a backup plan?

If we don’t hire Pearl because of a few silly things in the past it might be the final straw for me

What’s frustrating to me is how wildly inconsistent this school is with what is concerning or not.

Our past 3 coaching staffs were mentioned during the FBI trial.

    1) Per Yahoo sports article: “Another time, Gassnola and Gatto visited Indiana and according to a memo detailing the trip, Gassnola wrote “Jim assured [then]-Coach [Tom Crean] we are here to help. … We received huggs (sic).”

*Not to mention, Kenny Johnson was a Crean assistant who was later fired by Louisville with Pitino.

    2) Per The Kansas Star article: “Fenny, I am in Indiana and Coach Ostrom asked me for an update. They are super willing to do what it takes to recruit Silvio. Is that something of interest for us?’”

*Ostrom didn’t lose his job at IU despite this.

    3) Per yahoo sports article: “Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it,” then-Alabama assistant coach Yasir Rosemond said on tape, echoing just about everyone’s sentiment”

*This was public info before we hired Coach Ya

Why our school will bury their heads in the sand about all that but be afraid to hire Pearl, despite the fact that he has a positive reputation in Indiana and plenty of people to vouch for him is puzzling.
