  1. Can't give less than the zero I give now. I stopped giving years ago.
  2. The video with Fears is linked in the article that is embedded in that Tweet. I think some of what they do is good. The event they did is a fun showcase where the players can make some money. Some of their stuff is highly juvenile for mid-40's guys. If they could rein in some of the goofiness a bit, they would be fine.
  3. The article linked in the Tweet brings up some interesting points about how NIL is bringing individuals outside the purview of the AD into relationships with the school that could have an adverse impact on the school itself. In this case, HH does some things that could be seen as offensive, they definitely have some cringe content, and they also have what appears to be some pretty close connections with IU's AD. From a player perspective, money is money. However, is there also damage to the brand that these guys may be doing that the school is sanctioning? And Woodson's daughter works for one of these guys? Blurred lines.
  4. Meh. Expanding the field just dilutes the tournament more. There is usually only 1 or maybe 2 midmajors worth a darn in the tournament in a given year. For every 12 or 13 seed that goes on a run, there are about 10 other teams that are nothing but gun fodder. And really what the SEC wants is for a team that went 8-10 in the league to get a chance to get hot for a few games. One team going on a run every couple years from that group is not worth it IMO...in a single game format, I like having the cut off.
  5. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.spokesman.com/stories/2022/aug/04/kentucky-gonzaga-matchup-to-be-held-at-spokane-are/%3famp-content=amp I don't know why schools bend over backwards for them. If he wouldn't give me a home game there is no way in hell I would agree to play at Rupp.
  6. ESPN just became a regional network for the most part. The S is going to stand for South as much as Sports. The BIG also got themselves games on every "free" network outside of ABC. If you are a Big Ten sports fan, cutting the cord (if you haven't already) just got a whole lot easier. I expect that Indiana is about to see a whole bunch of nationally televised basketball games. On another note, does the BTN offer streaming services where you can see the live games that are currently being televised?
  7. That's rough. The local kid can't get a few bucks.... It will be interesting to see how all this NIL stuff plays out. The collective got money for guys who haven't played a game and they left out a guy entering his 3rd year in the program. I would be a little salty about that in his shoes.
  8. Who is the only guy to not secure a deal? It said 12 out of 13.
  9. If/when this gets going here again, I think the program will need to take a long and hard look at some of the "loyalty" that gets demanded by the HS coaches in this state and how that loyalty has paid off for the program.
  10. "We are looking at guys who are here for more than just the NIL money" He might not be a fit here...just saying.
  11. The money is in the squeeze. If you go from 70ish teams in a Big 5 down to 40 to 48 teams in a Big 2, then you shoukd be eating up the money those other schools were splitting in their conferences. You take the money that pays to televise the bowls and keep it for yourself. You take the National title money and keep it for yourself. Those on the outside become the MAC.
  12. Dear Notre Dame, we are making a playoff system based off the teams in our league. Get in or get iced out. If they messed around too much, that would be the final thing I would do as the BIG and SEC. Ice. Them. Out.
  13. I am not buying that either. They will need to go to 20 schools and they need 3 more on the west coast. ND, Oregon, Washington and probably Stanford would be the most likely 3. They need 3 because it will perfectly set up the situation I believe is developing. 4 divisions of 5 teams in 2 "regionally" based sub conferences: Big Ten West and Big Ten East. One of the divisions will be 5 west coast teams comprised of formerly Pac 12 schools. That will help reduce travel costs for those 5 as they have guaranteed games with each other every year. They will only have 5 football games that require the longer travel. They will have 3 nonconference games of their choosing and those will probably be schools more in the west region.
  14. I like him so far too. As far as staying, the raise and promotion probably didn't hurt. 😉
  15. So in an environment where that $100 million is almost completely based on football, you would look to tear down a building we just put 10's of millions of dollars into renovating and replace it with something new? Basketball is my first love. It really is, but I would fire any AD who came to me with a basketball forward plan right now. It is an absolute must for us to get competitive in football. Our only saving grace at the moment is that we were grandfathered into one of the two big conferences. If we were a Pac12, Big 12, or ACC school, we would be a school scrambling for a home eventually because nobody wanted us.
  16. That would be more like 7 to 10 for me at this point.
  17. We won't get a choice. And I think ND is kind of like Duke in North Carolina. They be in Indiana but they are not really of Indiana.
  18. New York (#1) Los Angeles (#2) Chicago (#3) Philadelphia (#4) Dallas-Fort Worth (#5) San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (#6) Atlanta (#7) Houston (#8) Washington, D.C. (Hagerstown) (#9) Boston (Manchester) (#10) Phoenix (Prescott) (#11) Seattle-Tacoma (#12) Tampa-St. Petersburg (Sarasota) (#13) Minneapolis-St. Paul (#14) Detroit (#15) Denver (#16) Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne (#17) Miami-Fort Lauderdale (#18) Cleveland-Akron (Canton) (#19) Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto (#20) Portland, OR (#21) Charlotte (#22) St. Louis (#23) Raleigh-Durham (Fayetteville) (#24) Indianapolis (#25) Pittsburgh (#26) San Diego (#27) Baltimore (#28) Nashville (#29) Salt Lake City (#30) San Antonio (#31) Hartford & New Haven (#32) Columbus, OH (#33) Kansas City (#34) Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson (#35) Cincinnati (#36) Milwaukee (#37) Austin (#38) West Palm Beach-Fort Pierce (#39) Las Vegas (#40) Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek (#41) Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York (#42) Jacksonville (#43) Oklahoma City (#44) Birmingham (Anniston and Tuscaloosa) (#45) Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News (#46) Greensboro-High Point-Winston-Salem (#47) Albuquerque-Santa Fe (#48) Louisville (#49) New Orleans (#50) Those are the Top 50 TV markets. To me Washington (Seattle-Tacoma), UNC (multiple in top 50), Oregon (Portland), Colorado (Denver), Stanford (Bay Area), GA Tech (Atlanta), and Arizona (Phoenix) are where you are most likely to get the bang for your buck. Asterisk for Notre Dame as they are a special case. I would choose the remaining 4 out of that group and possibly make a run at one of the Florida teams in the ACC but I think that would be a heavy lift (and may not fit the AAU side of the BIG). Edit to add: And I don't see why USC and UCLA couldn't get you on TV in the bay area or anywhere else in California either. I would assume their graduates are not all residents of L.A.
  19. Too many right now. I would top out at 20 and see what happens.
  20. and you are planning for the future given the UCLA/USC news what would be your plans for the next 5 years? Let's assume the $100 million TV rights figure is correct. I have 3 things that I think I would move to do as soon as possible. 1. Increase the football staff payroll, particularly for the assistants. 2. Decouple all of the programs from sharing one weight training area. The current one would be upgraded and left to the football team. Another would be added to Cook Hall for men's and women's basketball use. I would build a third for the remaining sports that would be anchored by Soccer/Baseball. 3. I would replace Mellencamp with the football equivalent of Cook Hall. I think we need to invest heavily in the pig skin short term.
  21. Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame, and a pick me. Maybe try and coax UVA to break the ACC (which I think Clemson, FSU, and/or Miami are likely to do anyway). Edit to add: Georgia Tech isn't a terrible idea for a shot ar getting games on in the Atlanta market.
  22. Related to this and the $100 million figure up above, Indiana has to plow the majority/all of the additional income into football for several years. You hope your NIL partners keep the basketball competitive.
