Colts desperately need a playmaker.  Speaking of which, is TY washed up or just lack of chemistry between he and Rivers, or are Defenses taking him away?

Chemistry and some bad luck with penalties when he does make a play. He gets open some and Rivers goes somewhere else with the ball. Rivers has always liked to spread it around and that's what he's done this year. Luck on the other hand would feed TY all the time it's just a different thought process at the QB position. Plus TY doesn't fit the type of receiver that Rivers has historically targeted a lot so that plays a factor too.

1.) Makes sense wanting a longer term deal, especially given the fact of his recent major injury.  Prioritize money spread over a few years then risking making $30 mil this year and getting injured and getting much lower money in years 2/3/4.  I truly think he'll end up in Indy.  Only was he comes to Indy is if one of Myles or Vic gets traded.

2.) Pacers will have to take a big gamble here with Vic.  Hope he returns to form is their best shot, then you can reassess trade value or if you want to give him $30 mil.  I think the first option is best given the fact that Indy is a small market team.

3.) Myles will net you a 1st rd return easily, Vic maybe so make sense that they do their due diligence.

4.) If the draft starts Nov 18th and teams open training camp say Dec 1st, they better get on their horses for assistants.  When does free agency start, day after the draft or the following Monday?

So with Vic the only way they keep him is if they are willing to let him walk. If you keep him till the deadline and trade him the Pacers won't get win now assets in return. It will likely be young players or draft capital from a contending team. A non contending team won't trade for him. Would the Pacers trade him for that when they will likely be gearing up for the playoffs themselves? I doubt it. I still think the smart play is to trade him now but I do see the appeal of keeping him.

I really don't know if Myles is actually on the block. I personally think the front office is very hesitant to move him but I could be wrong.

The talk is that free agency will start 48 to 72 hours after the draft and only last about a week reporting to camp gets rolling.

  3. A few notes that are going around on the upcoming NBA offseason.

1.) There is talk that Hayword might opt out of his deal in search of a long term deal. This could allow the Pacers to sign him to a deal and possibly work a sign and trade or make a deal with someone else to clear up the cap space needed.

2.) Vic is apparently happy with the Pacers and willing to stay but if he hits free agency the Heat are his preferred destination unless the Pacers pay up.

3.) The Pacers are looking at first round draft prospects which tells me they are looking at acquiring a pick which is not a surprise given the rumored deals that the Pacers could be looking at.

4.) I'd really like the to start hearing some rumblings about who the Pacers might be adding to their coaching staff. It seems like it's been really quiet on that front so far.

I would assume Turner would be involved in this.  I don't think VO would fit with the celtics since they already have enough wings and they need a big man.

I would say Turner or it would have to be a 3 team deal but who know's. Time will tell if KP and Pritchard find a way to work out a deal. I'm not going to speculate on what players that Ainge might want because I have know clue.

Saw the rumors on CBS sports this morning.  No mention of players to be involved.

Nobody knows if there could be any kind of deal since teams can't negotiate yet. It's just being said that there are people in the Pacers front office that have interest in trying to acquire him this offseason.

  6. I just realized it's been discussed but the rumors about the Pacers interest in Hayword are starting to spike up again. I don't know what the Pacers would give up to get him because we can speculate that all day long but there seems to be a lot of smoke around Hayword and the Pacers this year.

He also said something along the lines that a guy like Duncan Robinson might already be on the Pacers roster and Dan said TJ LEAF? Pritchard said no Doug McDermott, hopes to see him utilized correctly.  His conversation was very telling for sure

Correct. McDermott is a much better comp to Robinson so I understood what Pritchard was saying. Leaf is a different type of player. Leaf is a floor spacing 4 that can handle the ball a bit.

  8. I know there is a lot of Hayword to the Pacers talk but I don't think that it will happen this offseason. I do think he could sign here as a free agent when his contract is up next offseason. I actually think unless the Pacers get blown away with a trade offer they are going to run it back with almost the same roster. Of course there will be a few changes but after listening to new Nate and Pritchard I'm not sure if there will be any real big moves but we will see.

    Take a look at this

"The Giants had everything fall into place, but couldn't get it done. It didn't help, though, that Drake, a veteran umpire, expanded the zone. In the final three innings, four Giants -- Longoria, Mauricio Dubon and Austin Slater twice -- went down looking on missed calls."

The Giants missed the playoff after losing this game. They were tied with the Brewers, but lost on a tie-breaker...

And I know the article says "To be clear, they are not headed home because of a home plate umpire. The Giants had a chance to clinch a playoff spot before Sunday's finale" but you want every chance in that situation...

I said it earlier, umpires can be guided by their biases, be it wanting to get the season over, or favoring another team...It doesn't take but a few close calls on balls and strikes to change a game...

Don't put yourself in that position as a team and that won't happen. How many chances did they get to put themselves in the playoffs and failed. How many times in that game did the Giants have a chance to score another run. Well the answer is sveral. They K'd 12 times. Sorry but that wasn't all on the umpire. They also left 12 guys on base throughout the game. So yeah the ump made a bad call but the Giants had plenty of chances.

Agree.  I think you see Aaron improve some more, Goga improves and Leaf improve to some extent.

I just want to see some of those guys get some minutes. Shoot I'd like to see Bowen get brought back and given some run every now and then just because he is still young and has talent. I'm tired of seeing young guys brought in and they get almost zero real shot and then fans and guys on podcasts label them busts or bad players when they get a spot 5 minutes and don't look great. McMillan never gave some of those guys a fair shake to make anything of their careers.

  11. One thing that I thought was interesting after listening to Pritchard on Dakich's show was that he is willing to lose a few regular season games to let younger players develop and that way everyone on the roster feels they can contribute and be ready for the playoffs. He even threw Alize Johnson's name out as an example. This tells me Pritchard was tired of drafting young players like Johnson, Leaf, Bitadze, Sumner, Holiday, and others and never seeing them get a real shot to play and get in a role that they can contribute. Holiday eventually did but only because of injuries. That's like I know people like to bash Leaf but I truly believe that his struggles were because of McMillan. He was a really good player at UCLA and then just never got a real shot to play. I've said it before but I wouldn't be surprised if he brokeout or at least found a role with this new system especially since new Nate wants to be a faster paced team.

Tell that one to Armondo Galarraga...

That's why it's good that they have challenges now which I personally am fine with. I honestly wouldn't be upset if they allowed challenges  on say 2 ball and strike calls a game too just to make managers be super selective on when they used them. I just don't think robo umps is a great answer.

  13. 38 minutes ago, IUFLA said:

I wish MLB would go to "a robot" to call balls and strikes...

Keep the home plate ump, and just have a little indicator inside of his mask...Green=Strike, Red=Ball

Just my opinion, but every "bad" call I've seen on the bases was totally unintentional...Just a matter of mistaken judgment

Balls and strikes are different...Ron Luchiano even said in one of his books his strike zone could hinge on a few factors...How well he "liked" the pitcher, getaway day, etc...

Three umpires come into  a bar. They were discussing the problems of their occupation.

One said: “Some are balls and some are strikes and I call them as they are.”

The second said: “Some are balls and some are strikes and I call them as I see them.”

But the third umpire said: “I see them coming across, and some are balls and some are strikes, but they’re nothing until I call them.”

I have to disagree on the robo ump calling ball and strikes. They've tried it in the minors and it wasn't accuarate and guys still argued. I also hate the K zone on tv because it isn't accurate on several ball and strikes throughout the game and makes the umpires look bad when the ball could've crossed a section of the plate but doesnt go through the box.

So far Nate is saying the right things in his welcome conference this morning.  Main highlights are:

    - Offensive style will be disruptive, lots of movement.  Different guys handling the ball.

    - Pritchard receiving lots of texts and calls about this being a great hire

    - No set rotation, each game dictates a rotation.  Won't be afraid to enter "said" player into any game.  Wants each player to believe he can enter any game

    - Believes talent and IQ of the team is very good

    - The two bigs are very dynamic, compliment each other very well.  Feels very comfortable having two bigs

    - On Oladipo;  He texted me(coach) immediately after I was hired and I called him.   It was very welcoming, we had a great talk, I like Vics energy, our energy fed off of each other.

    Note from Pritchard on Vic:

    - Vic and I(Pritchard) have a great relationship, Vic feels good about the team.  He's talked to me about how he thinks this team can be very good.  You hear alot of things, but until it comes to me I don't really worry about what is being talked about.  He(Pritchard) pointed out Vic still has 1 year left on his deal

-Pritchard had a team zoom call yesterday and said Vic spoke up and was positive as he has ever seen Vic.

    - Vic is full out cleared health wise.

I have been in the trade Vic side of the isle for a while but I am curious to see how the offseason unfolds. If Vic and Turner are kept then I will understand why but it will be interesting to see if there are any moves to improve the roster with the limited cap space and no first round pick. If they run it back then this is what we as fans will be looking at.

Brogdon, Oladipo, Warren, Turner, Sabonis, A Holiday, McDermott, Lamb, Bitadze, McConnell, Sumner, and Leaf. J Holiday, Johnson, Sampson, Bowen, and Mitrou-Long will need new deals if they are brought back.

So I'm very curious to see what moves are made and how new Nate can make the best use of this roster.

I have a hard time believing this new first time coach/non ex player is going to carry the respect from a player who I think has his head somewhere else. Beyond this team. Which to me probably signals said player is likely to be moved. I’m not saying Vic is a trouble maker but I do think he does not have his heart in the team and with him wanting a max contract will cause ripples if he is asked to assume a lesser role then he sees for himself.

Well players around the league tend to think highly of him as a coach. He's a players coach that's good with player development and putting teams in a position to win. As for Vic I don't think they really care what he thinks that much at this point.

You do realize MDA ran a completely different offense in Houston than he did in Phoenix?

It doesn't matter now but yes I do. I also have heard people that cover the Rockets talk about how parts of it are the same or similar but things changed because of Harden.

    J. Michael of the Indy Star was told the reason for this hire was:

    Due to " Adaptability".

That's the reason that I always thought the D'Antoni interest was strange because of the amount of roster moves needed to fit his scheme.

Me either but they have to do something.  I don't like Jones. Maybe Rodgers will want a change of scenery

The Giants won't move on from Jones yet. Plus they won't have the number 1 pick so they would be stupid to not put more weapons around him and build up the team. The QB's that I could see changing teams this offseason are Wentz, Rodgers, Darnold, Ryan, Minshew, Garoppolo, and Stafford. Their could be a few others as well. Will all these guys be on the move? No, they won't but they could be options.

  19. According to Brian Windhorst the talk of Vic to Miami is most likely coming from Vic's camp because Miami has their sights set on bigger fish this offseason. That said other than a trade for Beal, Westbrook, or Paul I'm not sure what bigger name players will really be available.
