Next year seems to potentially be an extremely deep OT class which could also be great for the Colts.

They have to find that franchise QB. Rivers is a good stop-gap, but Mahomes and Jackson are generational level players.
So here’s the deal with the Colts at quarterback. Eason will be at best a franchise quarterback if he reaches his potential. If he doesn’t maybe he can be a long term backup. Next years QB class could be really good if they decide to get a first round QB to be the face of the franchise if they don’t like the way Eason is developing. The 2021 class has Lawrence, Fields, Costello, Purdy, Trask, Newman, and Lance could all be first round candidates. Lance from North Dakota could be the prospect that shoots up boards into the top 3 prospects with Lawrence and Fields. So we’ll see what they do but they’ll have options.

For the football gurus/coaches out there. Trying to make sense of a few things my Bears did over the weekend. Could be related to Colts too. Besides the size mismatch....what benefit does running multiple tight end sets do for an offense? Or on the flip side....what detriment does it cause opposing defenses? Nagy/Reich seem to love multiple tight end sets and I'm trying to figure out (besides size) what the benefits are?
Here is an article from 2013 that talks about it. https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/1624948-breaking-down-why-the-two-tight-end-offense-is-the-best-in-the-nfl.amp.html

Don't see a single thing wrong with Eason. Big time arm. Only spend a 4th rounder on him. Give Frank a chance to develop and grow under Rivers. If he hits you have a starter in 2 years. If he doesn't....it's a 4th round pick. Not much downside here at all.
I agree. I don’t see Ballard taking him if there are real concerns. I think he could be a good player to develop and even if not as a starter he could be a solid backup.

Positions in the 4th round could see the Colts drafting include TE, OL, WR, CB, or and Edge rusher.

Kind of surprised Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm are still available. I can't imagine them lasting long today.
I’m not surprised at all despite Wingo and the other guys on ESPN pushing for them to get picked. Eason doesn’t work hard and has an attitude and from is a good 5th rounder.

I was hoping it was one of our 6th round picks
I’m good with it though. Colts need playmakers and they’ve drafted two tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ballard somehow acquired another pick or two before the draft is over.

Wondering what we had to give up to move up from 44 to 41 but I d like the first two picks.
Picks 44 (2nd rd) and 160 (5th rd).

I would bet that the Colts won't be picking t 34 because I see them trading down to around 39 or 40 and picking up another 3rd round pick. I would like to see a WR like Higgans from Clemson or Pitman form USC and the other pick being a OT or RB. RB is not really a huge need but there are a lot of top RB;s still on the board so go BPA
I hope they trade down. That said I want a WR and if they go OL I like the guys from Louisiana and LSU because they are big and have some nasty to them. WR I like Pittman, Claypool, Mims, and Higgins. I also wouldn’t mind Chinn as a safety because I think he would be great for covering up TE’s with his size and speed.

Watch out, we might trade down and pick up some more picks anyway.
Ballard's delayed gratification strategy (and his overall philosophy, IMO) is perfect. The draft is a crap shoot by and large. To be successful, you need more bites at the apple.
I would especially with all the options still on the board. Trade down 3 or 4 spots. Still get a good player. Then depending on the board they could do it again at 44 depending on who is picked and if their are runs at any positions.

It’s do bad the Colts don’t have about 3 or 4 second round picks this year. There are way to many guys that I want them to draft.
-
I do find it funny that the Packers have had first ballot hall of fame level QB play for 30 years and only one 2 championships because they do a bad job of putting weapons around them and that seems to continue. Granted the WR position has depth in this draft.

That would be my guess as well.
It’s Favre and Rogers repeating itself. Rogers will QB for a couple more years and then be forced to retire or go someplace else.

Will Loving Watts I believe is now at Bloomington South or will be next year. At least that was the last I heard.

I think IU needs to find another post player for the 2021 class or a transfer with multiple years like Brunk. I’m not counting Kaufman or Patterson. TJD and Brunk will likely be gone and Thompson will be a senior. So another post is greatly needed. That said another scholarship will need to open up.

IU currently has 2 open scholarships for 2021. Give me two of Aminu, Kaufman, and Patterson and that’d be incredible. If we took another option like Wesley or someone else I’d be happy about that too if IU missed on Aminu but I still think Wesley goes to ND.

@IndySportsPartizan what about his teammate Cam Haffner? My coach buddy around there said he'll be d 1 talent as well.
He’s a 6’2 So averaging 10 ppg. We played them early in the season but I don’t recall him being that impressive but I’ll go back and check our stats tomorrow.

So he led the team in rebounding as a 5'10" freshman. Then I read he is still 5'10".
I've read mom and dad both played college ball but couldn't find how tall they are? If this kid hasn't grown at all height wise from his freshman to sophomore season, I hope he's not done.
Anyone have any idea how tall his parents are?
His wingspan is abnormally long for his height which is why he plays bigger than 5’10. He’s likely not finished growing and that’s a telling sign to me is the wingspan.

Very skilled but are we sure he is going to be athletic enough to play at the BIG level?
He will be just fine.

Does anyone know if he is still growing/ expected to grow further? I see him listed as a center but also at 6'8". Be nice to grow anouther couple inches if he is going to be our main interion option after Race graduates.
Rivals still has him at 6'8. He's now 6'9 and could easily get to 6'10.

I watched him when he played against my school this year. Elite passing ability and can score whenever he wants. He only had 12 against my school but he and 6 other players fouled out because the refs called 51 total fouls. He has an offer from Indian Wesleyan.
Ah the Greenfield Central game. That was a real gem of officiating.

Trust me. Not a fan of anyone doing this but like with many things....times change. These kids get sometimes just one shot to show if they are a starting NFL QB. So many QB's get kicked to the curb by year 3.....I guess I'd want to make sure my future employer was/is on the same page.
In the NFL if a team isn't bought in to try and win I don't blame players for not wanting to be there. Especially with the average career being pretty short and the physical beating the players take.

Combine week in Indy. Think we'll get a better understanding if Burrow wants to force his way not to be a Bengal. One interesting nugget. His personal coach is Jordan Palmer....brother of Carson Palmer....and one guy who has stated repeatedly that Carson wasted his best years in Cincy for an organization that has zero interest in winning a title.
Well now it's coming out that several teams have Herbert higher rated that Burrow. I wonder if that's possibly the Bengals floating that out there since they might be looking at other options since Burrow doesn't seem bought in to make him sound more justifiable if they'd pick him instead.
