I think he meant top paid, in general. Not just on our staff.

He’s been with Archie long enough that Archie will likely not lose him to another school unless he is dead set on coaching at that school. If he is dead set on being a head coach at some point then no amount of money will stop him. That said I don’t think Archie needs to worry about that for a few years.

If Ostrom has head coaching ambitions and surely he does, COVID-19 probably puts those ambitions on hold for at least another year.  Not an ideal time to uproot your family and move into a new job with all the uncertainty that presently exists.  Also, I would hazard a guess that a number of AD's have decided to stick with what they currently have and not attempt to hire a new head coach in the current environment.

Ostrom was a candidate at NKU last year but he wasn’t connected to any jobs this year.

I was wondering the same thing. I know it could just be an iu football thing or really nothing in general, but Rabjohns tweeting this made me curious

The spring game is coming up plus the B1G tournament and IHSAA regionals are this week. I’m sure there is a lot of stuff they’ll be doing with that.

So he led the team in rebounding as a 5'10" freshman.  Then I read he is still 5'10".

I've read mom and dad both played college ball but couldn't find how tall they are?  If this kid hasn't grown at all height wise from his freshman to sophomore season, I hope he's not done.

Anyone have any idea how tall his parents are?

His wingspan is abnormally long for his height which is why he plays bigger than 5’10. He’s likely not finished growing and that’s a telling sign to me is the wingspan.

I watched him when he played against my school this year. Elite passing ability and can score whenever he wants. He only had 12 against my school but he and 6 other players fouled out because the refs called 51 total fouls. He has an offer from Indian Wesleyan.

Ah the Greenfield Central game. That was a real gem of officiating.

Trust me. Not a fan of anyone doing this but like with many things....times change. These kids get sometimes just one shot to show if they are a starting NFL QB. So many QB's get kicked to the curb by year 3.....I guess I'd want to make sure my future employer was/is on the same page.

In the NFL if a team isn't bought in to try and win I don't blame players for not wanting to be there. Especially with the average career being pretty short and the physical beating the players take.

Combine week in Indy. Think we'll get a better understanding if Burrow wants to force his way not to be a Bengal. One interesting nugget. His personal coach is Jordan Palmer....brother of Carson Palmer....and one guy who has stated repeatedly that Carson wasted his best years in Cincy for an organization that has zero interest in winning a title.

Well now it's coming out that several teams have Herbert higher rated that Burrow. I wonder if that's possibly the Bengals floating that out there since they might be looking at other options since Burrow doesn't seem bought in to make him sound more justifiable if they'd pick him instead.

He is shorter and weighs less than the next Damon Bailey, but will be a guest of the program tomorrow.  That should tell you what the staff thinks.

Smith is going to grow. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up about 6’3. His wingspan is abnormally long for a 5’10 kid.

Basically saying we don't have a clue about BB.  Yet. In the same context says that a KOB professor who says Green is our best player is the smartest man in America.

Well I didn’t hear it that way at all. He basically said it’s either start him or get rid of him. Those algorithms the guy uses are the same ones that Brad Stevens used at Butler and with the Celtics. I think if I was Archie I’d start using them but he doesn’t so whatever.

If we land Duncomb, would it enhance our chances with Furst or Kaufman? The addition of Duncomb would likely garuntee neither player would be asked to play the 5 which must be appealing at least to Furst.

By the article this guy appears to be Archie’s style for big man. Sign me up!

I would say that it could. That way those players know they aren't going to be a 5 and that's apparently what they want.

Maybe we can get Justin Parker on here to discuss how all this MLB stuff goes?  That guy should know but I digress.

Seriously though, what are the NCAA rules on playing a pro sport and playing a different sport in college.  Danny Ainge did it, didn't he?

It can be worked out in the players contracts. Amir Garrett played a year or two of basketball at Saint John's after getting drafted and signing with the Reds.

Guys I know that have been around awhile say first 3 rounds. I agree though, if he ends up being projected 5-10, may as well go to college.

We’ll see plenty of time for things to change. It may be something that the kid decides he wants to go to college regardless. He sure as heck wouldn’t be the first. We’ll find out in a year and a half I guess.

  13. Here’s the deal with the MLB draft.

•Teams only have so much they can spend on draft picks. So they don’t always draft the most talented player. They will take a few of talented high school kids or draft eligible juniors and sophomores and then draft, JUCO, or high school seniors that they can sign below slot value to save money. PBR has Montgomery ranked 75th amongst high school players. That means he likely won’t get drafted in the top 5 rounds. So he will likely benefit from going to school.

Think he’ll go way of the draft ? Someone had posted that players who commit to a school typically hurt their draft stock by doing so ...I’ve not followed enough to know if that’s accurate

    That’s not accurate at all.

The chances of him ever playing baseball at IU is low. Not zero by any means, but below 50%

Not as low as you’d think. He’s good but baseball drafting is more than that especially with drafting high school kids. He probably doesn’t get drafted until rounds 5-10 at the earliest. He would benefit from going to college at that point much like Zack Thompson did.

I’ve gotten to see him play basketball 3 times and baseball zero .....I thought he was intriguing ....do you think he’s given up on the prospect of playing two sports ?

The biggest issue with playing baseball and basketball in college is that the seasons overlap to much.
