  1. Great ballplayer. His Bullets teams with Elvin Hayes were tough. RIP
  2. I’d redshirt Galloway or Leal and then flip them next year. So, their third year here, they would both be redshirt sophomores. I am not saying either one is as good as Brian Evans but look at how outstanding he was as a fifth year senior versus what he would have given in 1992 as a true freshman. With as hard charging as these two are, having them here for five years would be helpful in permanently transforming the culture here.
  3. Scott, sorry to hear the news about your job, on top of being Covid positive. You’re a good man and everything will work out. Stay positive.
  4. RIP to the Don, a central sports figure of my youth. Some good parallels between Shula and Knight. Give them any roster and one way or another they will win games. The two last great undefeated teams in sports helmed by these two. Extremely competitive, couldn’t handle losing. Shula went to six Super Bowls with three different roster cores. He didn’t rely on one QB or core of players. He had only two losing seasons in 33 years. Like Knight, Shula’s players talk about how tough he was but they loved him. Marino, Csonka, Warfield, Griese, on and on, they loved him. My Mount Rushmore of NFL coaches would be Lombardi, Shula, Belichick and Bill Walsh. Time marches on.
  5. I’m a pro-business guy but I don’t think they fit within the spirit of the law. They need to remember the money comes from the taxpayers. I’ve read some larger corporations have snuck in there too by defining the number of employees by segregating, e.g., franchisee employees.
  6. I wonder if you’re a team in a closed state if you will relocate for the time being to an open state and lease facilities from a college or even high school. Kind of like a spring training concept.
  7. I don’t know the answer but I believe he’s a year young as it is. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong.
  8. Prayers and best wishes to you, Scott, and especially your parents. That’s wonderful how well you step up for them. The way you talk about your kids, I can tell you’re a special family man.
  9. Is he a 3 or a 4, for those who have seen him play? Also, does anyone recall the year the NBA is projected to dispense with the one and done rule?
  10. He should meet with Sherron Wilkerson. Wilkerson can be a tremendous mentor and help him avoid major mistakes. A bad attitude can be a career killer.
  11. We don’t have an emoji strong enough to show how much I like this post. By the way, when RTZ speaks, definitely listen. I have noted over many years that his accuracy is superb. As for the loaded roster, the nice thing is how well it is coming together in terms of complementary players, hard workers, tough kids, and a core (not everybody, but a lot) that look to be four year players. You then sprinkle in some guys who might be inclined to leave early like TJD, Lander and hopefully Aminu. To my way of thinking, these are the ideal traits for excellent recruiting that will really set you up.
  12. Lest there be any doubt or confusion, I’m ecstatic we got Duncomb. And, if I were the coach, he’s exactly the type of player I would have recruited. I love that he’s from Cincinnati and would love to see the tradition of great Ohio players coming to IU continue. Scott May. Butch Carter. Steve Eyl. Ricky Calloway. Jerome Hunter. Many others. There are some championships represented. Of course, the most important IU figure from Ohio was a brash, brilliant guy from Orville.
  13. I’m not saying 2022 is as good as 2021, but I am saying it’s another loaded class. In addition to the players mentioned above, who are all worthy, there are a number of other in-state guys. Will Loving Watts looks like a really nice wing. Kamari Lands is another. Carmel shooting guard Pete Suder bears watching.
  14. Nobody is saying he should just hover around the three point line and avoid contact. It’s just about having a versatile game where he can face up and hit a jumper reliably. That doesn’t mean he can’t be a physical presence who kicks butt inside. As we’ve seen recently, having bigs who can hit a jumper can really open the floor for wings and guards and allow for space. Last year, without any bigs who could shoot, the defense would just pack it in on us and stymie our offense.
  15. I have only seen highlights but there are clips of him facing up and looking decent with a nice mid-range touch. I admittedly don’t know the analytics of his shot selection and percentages at various spots on the floor. But, I think we can all agree there is potential to hit at least a little jumper consistently.
  16. Interesting that his coach gave a shout out to Brian Walsh, who is now the director of basketball ops. He’s a former college player who was with Archie at Dayton. Hopefully there are some connections here that will help. I’m happy that Archie is attacking Ohio given his connections there from both Dayton and Ohio State.
  17. I just meant the next time they get one. I’d like to hit Illinois harder.
  18. Inside out recruiting. Nice to get an Ohio kid. I’d love to see our next new assistant have Illinois ties so we can attack more there too. Watching Logan develop is going to be interesting. You can project what he will be like as a player as he grows into his body more and more. The other nice thing is he will be here for awhile as an ideal likely four year player. I believe his coach kept using the word “motor” with him.
  19. Congrats. Very cute. Please get him some IU gear so he’s influenced the right direction.
  20. Trayce has so much going for him, excellent athlete, can get off the floor but also has good agility. He can jump one, two, three times, whatever it takes. He has tremendous hands like suction cups. Good hands for a big man is like accuracy for a QB. Gotta have it and he does. And he’s competitive with a good motor. My favorite part about Trayce is that rebound in traffic where you can’t even see in there and Trayce yanks it down as surely as can be. As everybody here says, If he can come out and hit 15 footers, and then stretch out to the 3, there’s no telling what he can do. In today’s NBA game, you gotta have that stretch ability. He’s so skilled there’s no reason why he couldn’t shoot well.
  21. I’m not saying he’s the same player, but this recruitment of Karaban harkens me back to Matt Cross. I remember one of the recruiting bloggers said that Archie was “obsessed” with Cross. We will see if Archie gets on Karaban early and often.
  22. Could I interest anyone in a lineup like this: PG Lander SG Mohammed SF Karaban PF Kaufman C Duncomb
  23. I think these two have the potential to really play off each other. With Duncomb, to me there is a lot of projection. He’s got a heck of a frame, but you can envision what that will look like as he matures physically and grows into his body. I believe that his high school coach raved about his motor. Pair a kid like that with the skilled Kaufman and that is a dynamic duo. Kaufman plays with length and versatile skills. If I were either one of them, I’d look to play with a player just like the other one. If they don’t end up meshing on the floor, call me out on it, but I think that’s a very complementary combo. Imagine both of them at 6’10.
  24. I have always thought wingspan is more important than actual height.
