Blaming the fans is madness. Who have the fans fired? Who did IU fire that proved the fans wrong?
I am not talking about some imbecile on Twitter but the overall fan base. You can cherry pick idiots and morons in every fan base so that’s a futile effort.
The IU fan base is more principled, on and off the court, than other fan bases. It’s part of the culture we all grew up in. We can self examine in a way that eludes other fan bases.
Ultimately the fan base will demand accountability. Any coach who is afraid of that doesn’t belong here. The one thing you can never do here is be wrong about something the fans were right about all along. If you are the smartest man in the room, you damn well better be right.

My point was being that we may need another combo guard in the portal, in case he can't make it back.
100%. Would be a colossal error. If that new point guard gets hurt, you’re back to where you are this year and he would get fired. Can’t do that.

I don't love the trend. Not sure there is anything to do to alleviate it.
"vet players late in seasons (Ertz, Dalvin Cook), asking to be released just to jump onto a bandwagon"... just not for me. Like damn.. there are 3 total football games left in the season lol
Smart by the Lions.
Agree with your point. Other sports don’t let you bring in outside players after the regular season ends. With a 53 man roster and larger practice squad than before, you should be able to survive the playoffs with what you have in house. Roster maneuvering before the playoffs should be part of the strategy. IMO

Great use of replay. I don’t like the rule though. There’s been talk of changing it.

I like Domask a lot. Not sure how Wisconsin ever let him out of the state to So Illinois out of high school. He’s out of central casting for a Wisconsin player.
Tyson Walker. Domask. Lance Jones. Mast and Williams at Neb. Lot of mid major guys stepping up to the B1G and really thriving. I don’t recall us being involved with any of these guys. It’s easy to spot Ware. Knecht. Those are easy. We need to do a much better job of scouting. We’ve got like 17 young guys in suits sitting behind the bench. Get scouting. Inexcusable to get out worked with that many bodies back there. Fight complacency.
Let’s be real. The bottom 10-15% of major school players are probably mid-major talents and the top 10-15% of the mid majors can do well at big schools. Get scouting and don’t let the competition run circles around you.
Aside from the mid major follies, we have not scouted the state well for years. It’s like we wait for the Indy Star to declare who the best players are. Get out there and scout. Indiana State is far better than IU. If IU had ISU’s guards, who are in-state guys, we’d be much more formidable. That’s not where we are supposed to be.
Scott needs to assert himself. He’s the boss and make it clear. Get involved in the minutia of what will improve. What are each of the countless staff guys doing? Not just the assistants.

Sure, but what’s your point? It isn’t illegal to bait someone.
Exactly. Instead of elbowing him right in front of the ref, use the same tactics.
I said immediately he was getting ejected in the game thread. It is not that I’m prescient, it’s just that it was so obvious that’s what would happen.
And of course it precipitated Fisher’s comment. He’s around the team, goes to some practices, does interviews with the players, the staff talks off the record with him, etc. Don is a significant figure and, let’s be honest, he’s not usually critical of IU. He’s always made clear he knows who butters his bread. He tends to be an IU apologist, at least publicly. So this isn’t a minor issue when he speaks out. He carries weight.

- Don FischerI am sure CJ is a good kid and I put this as a reflection of the program. The players need to be taught discipline. They need to be taught that the jersey they wear means something. They need to be taught that they represent themselves, their family, their school, their state. The impression of the program is crystal clear. Ejections. Flagrant fouls. Etc.
I think CJ is a good kid who made a mistake and it’s more a reflection of the program. It is out of control.

Questions for Coach:
1. What was the thought about doubling the post when they get going fron 3?
2. When Klesmit got hot, what was the strategy to adjust to that?
3. What’s your opinion on your guys frequently shooting long two’s even to the point where their heel is on the three point line?
4. Why have you had two ejections and several flagrant fouls the past few games?
5. What are you doing to instill the IU culture you grew up in?
6. What’s your opinion of the team’s ball movement?

For once it would be nice to see some accountability besides “I gotta get ‘em over the hump”
I could do an entire tirade on Woody and where his head is at, starting with him making Scott fly out to meet him for the interview to quashing the Matta/Fife help, to him acting like this job is the victory lap for his career. But I’m not going there out of restraint and no one wants to hear it.

Woody deserves every bit of the heat that’s going to cascade onto him. The staff too. All of them. Surely Scott is going to get involved on everybody’s existence.

This program is lost…
He very noticeably doesn’t want to be there. He’s been switching jobs frequently looking for something.

Klesmit isn’t good enough to be your daddy unless you’re totally in the fetal position.
I suspect if we saw the inner workings of the program we’d be appalled.

That’s at least 4 that I can think of… and none of them were at the end of the shot clock. Most of them came within the first 10 seconds of the possession
And I don’t think any went in, either.

Kind of amazing how bad our offense looked when X came in. Gabe runs the offense so much better.
The announcers mentioned the 13-2 run but were too polite to point out it coincided with X checking in.
X should have to earn his time and not have it gifted to him.

Another long 2. At some point you have to accept that the coaches endorse those shots. If the head coach is encouraging it, where are the assistants?

That long 2 by Walker should have come with a laugh track.

Ultimately he will be judged on his performance. Accountability is a good thing in all professions. Any criticism or praise that he gets will be based on how he performs. Criticism here is hardly unwarranted. There are a lot of issues. If he performs well, I assure you that he will do well on accountability. As for comparing him with the likes of K, that’s not a good analogy at many levels. There is a lot that goes into a program’s trajectory. K and Woody are in two entirely different circumstances. It is up to Woody to correct the course. He will get his shot between now and next year. He either will do it or he won’t. The outcome is in his hands’ not the fans. The fans will merely hold his feet to the fire. And they haven’t been wrong on anybody yet.
