  1. Certainly there's arguments to be made both ways AND it depends on the coaches evaluation of a given player. This MMike player is described as being "still raw" and intent on going professional. He likely is looking to play significant minutes. Is he likely to provide more to the program in one season (if he plays well) than an existing bench player will in his remaining seasons? Do you bring in a less heralded guy with several years of eligibility left at the risk of not getting (more talented) recruits in the coming months? Or take the chance of not doing so then not getting recruiting targets? Recruiting over guys who the staff feels aren't likely to become significant contributors here is OK with me, but doing it just to bring in a marginally better player rubs me the wrong way. It's a complex, fine line. Bottom line is Woodson is still building his program, adapting to CBB and establishing a culture and that figures into things as well.
  2. Why not? There's no other important issues for them to work on...🤬
  3. Overall the B10 really wasn't hurt very badly by xfers (IMO).
  4. Yeah, the "deal" to join the NBA was criminal. Years later the NBA bent 180 degrees in the opposite direction for new franchises (Orlando, for example). I will say that the deal the owners of the St. Louis team made has to be one of the smartest in history (something like 25% of the four former-ABA teams TV revenue per year forever). The inexplicable officiating did nothing but reinforce my suspicion that the NBA is, shall we say "manipulated". That, combined with the Pacers penchant for totally blowing their draft choices (often out of financial necessity) and foolish trades led to my current total disinterest in pro basketball. BTW, my uncle ran a Marathon station and I got plenty of Pacer swag back then (including the lousy vinyl red/white/blue ball).
  5. But they did have the Marathon scoreboard at one end, with mini-skirted young ladies maually doing the updates. We usually ended up at the opposite end near the crows nest (if you know, you know). I remember my dad frequently using the binoculars to "check the score" lol. For any fellow, old-fart Pacer fans, here's the first part of several of the 1973 playoffsagainst the Utah Stars: It would have been McGinnis' second or third season - I still marvel watching him hit jumpers with that one-hand shot.
  6. Frankly, I hope Woodson let him know how he would fit in and what he could do to prepare him for the NBA. I also hope he made it clear that he would be an important part of the team but that there are 4 other players on the court - it's not purely an opportunity to "showcase" his talents for 1 season.
  7. He's glad "it's finally over". Something no attention-hoowah like himself has ever believed. I care only how or if it affects IU. If it helps with getting MM, then Yay! Otherwise, Meh.
  8. Doesn't it usually follow the script? 1. School offers player - "I am blessed to recieve an offer from Jippippy University". 2. At beginning of on site visit, via social media - "Hey Jippippy peeps, in the house!" (transparent plea for the all so valuable "Likes" & "Follows". 3. At conclusion of visit - "Thanks to coach Whipslade for a great visit. Coach showed me how I'd be used on the floor. Let's GO Jippippy Pirates!" 4. The following day - "Really enjoyed my visit at Jippippy. I am NOT committed" 5. Several days later - "Hey Northwest Southeastern U, in the house!" 6. Rinse & Repeat. 😦😃😦😃😦😃
  9. I think those statistics accurately illustrate our strengths & weakness last season. The 3-pt part especially so - on both sides of the ball. I maintain that 3 point shooting was an issue we need to improve on. A good percentage is of less importance when you shoot so few. Add in that a huge chunk of the ones we did make were by players now no longer on the roster. XJ should provide a boost in that area but I strongly feel we need a large infusion in that facet of the game. Time will tell...
  10. Shouldn't the second sentence be "Baye Ndongo is his name-o." 🥸
  11. Heck yeah! I'd take second or maybe even third all-time scorer 🥳 Seriously, I'm unsure of how much he's "over" the injury. Seemed like he came back and played then was held out of game(s). Full participation this Summer seems essential to his success next season.
  12. I thought that is what the portal update thread is for. As frustrating as it might be, I'd wager that most threads are littered with unrelated comments. Heck, just look at the next thread down about J. Newton, lol. Sorry, now we're OT discussing OT comments 😄
  13. Not to mention, what "players with IU interest" are there to discuss right now?
  14. I don't discount the B10 style of play impact at all, but it's not something we (basketball staff) can't change - like many things in life, you find a way to deal with it. The "small net" theory was also mentioned on that podcast. Also seems like a contributing factor.
  15. It was their theory, which seems plausible to me. I know you've expressed your opinion that we need a couple of wings, and given your take in your response - why do you think we've yet to add players that address this area of need (thus far)?
  16. I'm halfway through listening to the latest Assembly Call podcast and they've done a very good job of analyzing our portal performance and current roster needs. No sugar-coating and no doom & gloom, just a measured take on where we sit at this time. One point that was raised was interesting: regarding recruiting wing players, we can't really show them video or evidence of how they would be used - only a vision of how a new system or style of play is intended. Additionally, competing coaches can point to this and use it against us. It's kind of a chicken and the egg situation. I'm paraphrasing heavily BTW.
  17. I believe Mark Twain is credited with saying "Never argue with a fool...onlookers may not be able to tell the difference".
