    The timing...

Big Blue Madness was last weekend...

Hoosier Hysteria is the same day as the announcement...

If you were Boogie, and you had ANY modicum of respect for Mike Woodson, would you announce UK before our big day? That'd be kind of a kick in the marbles, wouldn't it?

    In Woody I trust...

I agree. This whole process seems to show Fland likes and respects Woodson, so it doesn’t seem as though he’d announce UK with this timing. Obviously we don’t know. It’s possible he picked that day for other reasons and it just happened to fall on Hoosier Hysteria. It’s possible he didn’t even know that it was Hoosier Hysteria. But I think both of those points are highly unlikely.

IF he does announce UK on this day then yes that’s a little sketchy. Waiting even one day would be much more respectful IMO.

I don’t think Liam and boogie will be here when he gets here which is ok because it means our staff developed them and recruits will notice if it’s happening year after year. Then we will start winning recruiting battles over UK because he hasn’t been developing the players that come in as fringe First rounders like he used to

    I forgot he’s 2025 🤦🏻‍♂️

  3. If we could land this kid with Derik, Boogie and Liam I’m gonna geek and freak. IF we have room or even want to add anyone else it would be gravy.

But I really want this kid because an athletic shooter who’d likely stick around four years brings some of the core stability we need to build around.

Add him to Cupps and we have stability in the backcourt for a few years to plug one and done‘s around

I don't believe there's any chance of Harper coming to Indiana. But I don't hate that we are still officially a finalist for the kid who was the number one recruit in the country until Flagg reclassed. Every time there's an article like this one, wondering where Harper will go, Indiana gets a mention and some praise for all to see.

Couldn’t agree more. It can only help!

  5. And my wife just asked “what good does doing all that accomplish?”

1.) it allows any coaches who interview to decline, their AD knows so they might get a raise, but when they decline it they can say they never even considered it.

2.) the university can back that up and declare they got their first choice making them look good.

3.) It keeps the fan base in such circles they are shocked when the coach is announced which prevents the base from forming opinions before the announcement and sometimes creates excitement thru the surprise.

”Why would you do it for recruits?

    I. Have. No. Idea. 😂

I’m not sure how much they frequent sites like  this one and brown banners but I know they are watching peegs constantly. They probably check out the others sites with some regularity.

I know as a UT fan in coaching searches the school would literally fly to city X, then fly to city Y, fly in a prospective coach from Z so they weren’t even near where the candidate was from, then go to city A that had a candidate that we THOUGHT was a potential and stay there for hours and never even interview the person and never had interest.

It was ALL because of message boards and Twitter.

Recruiting momentum doesn't change drastically in a week. Our perception does.

Let me add to this quote…

Recruiting is a bunch of grown ups trying to figure out the head of 16-18 year olds when the kids can’t figure out what’s in their own heads.

    @dgambill, since you're confused, let's hear it.

I'm not saying this kid is Larry Bird and I think I made that abundantly clear, but when I hear scouting reports that say a non-guard is a smooth shooter with a great stroke from distance, excellent passer, crafty and while not a real natural defender, is pretty good at positioning himself on defense, I don't think it's unfair to get a bit of a Larry Bird vibe.  Someone mentioned it sarcastically earlier and my first thought was, yeah, that's who the kid sounds like.

For the third time, and it pisses me off that I feel a need to do this but I know someone will overreact and put words in my mouth, I'm not saying the kid will be Larry Bird.  What I AM saying is that when Larry Bird was in high school, no one thought he'd be Larry Bird either.  Fair enough?

You’re fine. I swear it’s in people’s DNA today. We can’t engage in what the actual statement is or was, we must characterize the person’s position into something that makes us feel so “right” and them “so wrong.”

I understood your point. It’s potentially valid but I wasn’t old enough to read what Bird’s descriptions were coming out of HS exactly. Anything I know of him is tainted by what I know he became. 🤷🏻‍♂️
