  1. If the NIL part isn’t about negotiating a better deal and comparing and contrasting that part of the equation, then CBB is WAY different than college football.

I follow CFB closely in recruiting and it is VERY common knowledge that many to most of the kids factor the NIL as a major part of their decision process and it absolutely is a huge advantage or disadvantage for a school that’s similar but doesn’t offer at least close to the same money.

and there’s many examples right now in CFB where kids are going to clearly worse situations because those schools are willing to over pay for them.

The state of Missouri has passed a bill allowing the home schools (basically Missouri), to give the money before they even actually sign in signing day. The kids can merely complete any paperwork for the school that shows intent to attend such home state school, and they can cash in on the money while in HS. This bill has given Missouri a big leg up on a couple players because they suck but they have a lot of money to spend.

Point us, “Show me the Money,” is now a reality and important.

Article in our local newspaper today (yes I still take the newspaper), about Trent. There are quite a few suitors for this young man. The recruiting is getting really crowded....

Did you read the newspaper in your slippers with a pair of flannel pants, and a wife beater on, in your recliner, smoking a pipe while slapping the dog’s side and taking a deep breath and opening the paper loudly and saying out loud “ahhhhh let’s see what the ole sports section has to say about the Hoosiers…”

Rivals says Harper might decide within 2 weeks or so.  Mid-August, or a bit later.

Their pick is still Rutgers (over Indiana and Duke), IF Rutgers has enough NIL money.  Rivals says that's important.

I'd love it if Indiana just tripled whatever was being discussed, and signed him.  That news would race through the recruiting world and open a lot of doors.  It is our chance to set the market rate, and make everyone else react to us for a while.

The problem with that mindset is it can rip a team apart. If I signed last year and got say $85,000 and you have a guy maybe even at my position that you want that’s semi similar to me and throw $200,000 his way, now I’m feeling screwed. Then you gotta give me more or navigate that on the team. And remember these are 18-19 year olds. Not fully mature adults. NIL doesn’t just mean throw money with no repercussions. It’s more complex than that.

Not sure if this was a case of us backing off, but I would imagine if we wanted him we would have had a good chance here. Everything seemed to go quiet on the IU front after his OV, which it sounded like he really enjoyed.. Onto the next.

I really do respect that Woodson is going all in. You get the sense that he agreed we are championships or bust at IU, which is what we SHOULD BE. But that means you gotta pull a seat up to the table with the big dogs and swing for the fences to make a statement. Obviously, I hope it works. And I feel there’s a good chance it will.

but at least he isn’t trying to do the slow methodical approach to gradually build up to being a top 5 program, by securing “good” players until he can snag some great players. He wants to get there immediately.

Our job as fans is to support that and keep the energy positive and trust and believe in the process and I believe we are. Now we wait and watch nervously. 😅

Or....maybe Woody doesn't want to "settle" just to plug a spot. He'll likely only play 8-10 guys early, and probably 7-9 guys later in the year.

If he can’t find a good kid who’s willing to work hard so be it. But to not use it seems dumb IF there’s anyone out there to help at practice who only has 1 year of eligibility left. Absolutely nothing to lose. I just don’t get it. But…honestly ain’t gonna lose anything sleep over it. Maybe some intense counseling and meds, but otherwise I’ll be ok. 💪🏻😎

  6. I’m also shocked. I don’t see any downside in bringing a good guy who works hard and maybe by chance could pop and become something IF they’re only taking that scholly this year. Who knows maybe they couldn’t find one that fits that mold. What do I know? Wife says “not a lot.”

Maybe it didn't come across this way but my point was we've landed more elite out of state kids under Coach Woodson than we have in decades minus the two I pointed out. Coach has us in the right circles again.

In terms of Liam though. He seems like the first domino...but I can't imagine we'll know anything until October 1st at the earliest.

Agreed…I remember landing the Charlie Miller’s, Andre Patterson’s, and SO many more. Not just Midwest but across the country.

I personally wonder if us not landing many from far away flat out had to do more with how crappy our coaches were 😂 Sidenote: I’d really like to land this kid and see him begin to get us back to landing these kids NATIONALLY. 💪🏻

We've dibbled a bit over the year in elite elite recruiting but mostly those have been homestate kids besides the Bryants/Vonlehs of the world.

To be in this world the stomach needs to be strong. Obviously something is very appealing to kids like JHS, Ware, Malik, and now Mack. We just need to do our best and go from there. Still feel we are in a great spot but Texas and playing at home is a tough one to overcome....even for Montverde guys who haven't played at home in years.

Top programs recruit nationally and land out of state kids regularly. Maybe we get him maybe we don’t and obviously for many the lure of playing at home is a big deal or at least some kind of pull. But the mindset has to be that plenty are willing to go away and some even kinda want to. The top programs don’t think “well we’ll recruit some five stars and maybe get lucky here and there but it’s a long shot.”

If IU wants to compete for national titles we have to land guys like this semi regularly. Time to turn that corner and start landing some. And this sure sounds like it’s a good shot to do so

    1. McNeeley

    2. Fland

    3. Queen

I’m not sure what percentages I’d put on them but with McNeeley IU is the clear favorite to land him.

Do you think these three are a domino situation?

I also think we are likely to add McNeeley and I sense if he joins it improves our chances of the other two a good bit. That’s why I’m very optimistic about this class overall. I can see three coming to IU together and likely not that trio anywhere else.
