TJD made two great decisions in his career. #1, staying the entire 4 years in college and #2, telling the Pacers to not draft him. One of my all time Hoosier players. Too bad he got stuck with Archie for a couple years.

    Merry Christmas

Hopefully Ware and MM consider it too

Ware could greatly benefit from add strength.

  2. This team has come a long way since the start of the season and has a long way to go. Can they get to the top 3 or 4 in the conference?  I think so but they have to improve a lot. Keep in mind how much better JHS got in january. MM can certainly do that. We have a lot more offensive options than last season. This team is very young and just learning how to play together.

Hooefully they continue to improve. This team could be a tough out come March or be sitting at home.

Figured I'd put this here for more discussion. I really like what we've done offensively the last several games. We've largely gone away from the entire offense being dumping it into the low block with two bigs down there while everyone stands an watches.

We've been using Galloway as the catalyst to creating offense and we're using the bigs in a much more dynamic way. We're bringing Galloway off DHO's and using him in chin action with the DHO being much closer to the basket so you can't go underneath, etc.

Galloway these last three games almost reminds me of XJ when he went on that run late in his first season at IU. During that run we almost exclusively playing XJ/TJD in the high PnR and XJ was killing it. Galloway is playing with such great pace and is really in control of the action. We're using the bigs to create space now as opposed to clogging the space.

Many of us have been calling for more 3's, but not just more volume, but creating more in rhythm shooting opportunities and that's what we've seen the last few games. The bigs are being used in DHO's, in ball screen action, horns, etc., away from the basket and then rolling or popping.

It makes for a much more flowing offense and it helps to create confidence across the board.

I just really hope it continues, and I really like our prospects if XJ comes back healthy and can play in this system that is closer to what IU was doing in late-Feb and March 2022. I know he wasn't playing great before his injury, but neither was Galloway, and I think that was largely because of the style we were playing.

Imagine Galloway playing like he has the last few games paired with XJ playing closer to how he played during that run and kind of handing the keys to the offense to them, with Cupps off the bench, and using them with our bigs in space and with pace to create offense for everyone.

More Ware lobs, more Reneau rolling to the basket in space, more open looks for Mgbako, more Galloway and XJ getting to the basket and creating for everyone, more Walker diving to the rim, etc., etc.

Play offense like this and I think our ceiling raises a bit.

    This is spot on

when X gets back to game speed him and Galloway can pick the defender to go at. This adds so much versatility with Ware and Reneau. MM spotting up and driving.

Add in Walker getting comfortable and this team might get there

  4. I thought Woodson and staff made a nice adjustment at half and started using PnR with ware and galloway instead of just posting up.  Everyone got into driving the balll and dropping it of or kicking it out. This team can score in a variety of ways.  Posting up. PnR, diff the drive.

Ball movement was much better in 2nd half

MM needs to continue to drive the ball and look for his shot. Even if he isn’t making them you have to guard him.

Reneau will probably not shoot like that again but he and Ware need to take  1 to 2 three’s a game just make the D think about it

I think we all know in reality neither is getting bencher, but I don't understand at all how you can come to the conclusion you'd bench Ware over Reneau. It's not even close who is better and more impactful to the team.

Reneau is really only helping this team win if he scores A LOT. His past 5 games have had 4 with an ORtg under 100 and the 5th game came in at a whopping 100.

    I don’t bench either

Just get walker a little quicker if either starts bad. Walker seems very happy with his role and is filling perfectly lately. When is on give him more minutes.

The Smith kid for North Alabama is my vote for career night guy. Shoots 40% from 3 and is a graduate. We seem to leave guys like that open for most of the game. Hope we can improve on that.

He will score a season low. but some player will have his career high 8 minutes into the game and score more points tonight did he has had all season

Positives… didn’t quit, won, and Anthony Walker.

Pathetic performance otherwise. Missing FTs like we did is inexcusable. Didn’t guard the perimeter yet again. Can’t shoot. Not been mentioned, but I’m at a loss for words that Reneau isn’t smart enough to get that last rebound and kick it out with the shot clock turned off. Typical behavior though…. gets the ball and is determined to shoot at all cost unless he just can’t.

Thought the same thing on the kick out. it’s only a 20 second clock and they would have fouled any way But he should have definitely kicked it out

Yeah, at one point it looked like Leal got up from the bench and I thought maybe he was going in.

I personally would have gone with Gunn there, just because of his athleticism.

I just thought we needed a more perimeter oriented defender in that spot once you could tell Banks was struggling with the pin down screens.

    Agee 100%

Yeah, I can't speak to how he was feeling, and completely agree that he was not playing well, though neither was Banks.

Taking potential illness out of it, and despite his play, I think Gunn would have been the play there.

i thought the same thing. Even Leal as a option

  10. This team continues to improve. Get X back healthy and playing like he was at the end of his junior year and we will be a tough out at the end of the year.

Remember JHS 10 games into the season. He was just getting things going. Same can be said about MM. We need him to continue to get better. With X back we have 5 Starters s that can score in double figures and take advantage of miss matches. A lot of options and different sets to throw at teams.

Gunn and Banks need to keep improving. Both offered very little against Kansas but are capable of giving some minutes. Some games games they will some they won’t. Cupps is finding his role as a backup ball handler and Walker is providing good minutes.

This one concerns me a lot. Adams draws a lot of fouls and Malik commits a lot of fouls, Adams gets a lot of steals too, which could be a problem if he is guarding Malik.

That matchup is a problem both ways

Malik can foul Adams out as well

    I'm not confident.

What's the word on X?  Problem is the chemistry was picking up and he has been out.  X is a rhythm guy.  He seemed to still be feeling out the roles.

Maybe having him come in with second unit is a plus for the 2nd unit.  He still get 28 or more minutes, but comes in after 4 or 5 minutes to lead the second unit.
