Apologies if this has been answered in another thread, but when a player goes into the TRANSFER PORTAL, are they entering something akin to

    - The Door in Beetlejuice

    - The Gate in Stargate

    - Chimneys in Harry Potter

    - The Sling Ring in Dr Strange

    - Another portal I'm not even thinking about a la Hot Tub Time Machine or Back to the Future?

Or am I just greatly misinformed over here??

    Portal

why waste time recruiting high school

I wonder if a kid is smarter about picking a good fit or just looking for 💰after a year or two

Depending on the class(and a school's needs)  the portal might be the best option.   But there are always gonna be hs kids worth recruiting.

As for players picking a school... I dunno what's most important.  PT, exposure, coach that develops, coach with connections, winning program, location, teammates, facilities, NIL money...

Figures... the one group that probably put some real thought into it did not pick us.

To be honest, ESPN probably threw us in there just so they would get clicks from all of the IU fans.

Maybe they are just assuming TJD and Race aren't coming back.   And without any portal pickups yet we aren't worthy of being ranked.

I still feel for the mid major programs when it comes to the portal. They sign these players and develop them and then they go off to bigger schools.

Say your dream was to play at IU.  But you only got mid major offers and you settled for Ball State.  Then while there you grow 2 inches and develop into a superstar.  You staying in Muncie?

Big schools are taking hits with the portal as well.  Think of all the time and money spent recruiting, developing/training players and then they end up leaving.   You've got schools losing 3 or more players that are scrambling to fill rosters.

And it's not all bad for small schools.  They stand to pick up some talented 4/5 star kids that just need a fresh start.

The thing is with this happening outside of the season he can be punished without being suspended.  There is plenty of time and things coach and IU can ask him to do that will be a lot harder than just being suspended for a few games.  Suspension would be easy. Instead as so many have suggested let’s get him in front of kids and have him talk about what he did and why it was so dumb.  Have him earn his time back on the practice court and for games doing community service.  Have him meet with families that have lost loved ones in major accidents that could have been avoided.  So many harder things can be done here that should make XJ better for it.

Yep plenty of punishment to be had this off season.  And if he doesn't want to pay for his stupidity then he knows where the door is.   He already cost himself NLI $$$ with this.  Although maybe the local bailbonds place will offer him a deal.  Lol

Well, IMO, one of the things that has leveled the field between the mids and the P5s is with OADs, you generally have 3-4 year starters at the mids going up against younger players at the P5s. The difference in talent is somewhat neutralized by having experienced players who have been in the same system for a few years. This new system could reduce or even eliminate that advantage for the mids.

I don't see it being all bad for the Mids.  They could end up getting some high rated freshman since the P5s won't have scholarships with the portal moves.   And then you have experienced P5 players stepping down that can help.  Mo Creek comes to mind.

I don't know.  Mid-major schools are gonna feast on Power conference "rejects."

Yep.  Kinda a two way street.  The kids that flopped(or were overrated) end up at the mid majors AND the late bloomers/unknowns that blossomed move up to the BIG Boys.

In both cases the players should have motivation to prove themselves.  Either redemption or yes I'm for real.

Programs like TX Tech & Auburn are already well ahead in this area

Yup TT was just a couple buckets away from the Elite 8.  And that was with adding 9 portal players after losing Beard and most of last years team.   That's one heckuva coaching job by their new 65 yr old coach.

Funny you mention that. It seems to be a bit trendier now. I was looking into that for my bathroom before my wife found a quartz she liked.  Kudos for being ahead of the trend!

I had never seen it but the guy that came to give me a quote showed me a sample and said he could put it in for way less.   Figured my wife would nix that but she liked it.

What's crazy is I took the sample to a couple other granite places for bids and they were gonna charge the same as the polished granite.

We haven't but certainly will take a peak at it.

That's what we've heard and why were considering tabling until maybe the fall just to see if prices come down....but we've been delaying for awhile it's almost to the point of screw it, do it and just be done with it...just never knew how much went into things like this with sink, garbage disposal, backdrop crap,etc...almost getting annoyed with it and we haven't started!

Lol oh man I did everything myself except the countertops.  My kitchen and dining room were blown up for a couple months.   Saved a ton but yes it was a pain.

Thanks and will keep in mind. That's what were wrestling around with right now. The quartz we both picked (without knowing what the other chose) ended being $102/sq foot.....we've now entered the is it really worth it maybe just find a knockoff that looks the same? Thanks again to all for input!

Have you considered "leather" finish granite?  It's basically unpolished stone.  We put it in 3 years ago and love it.  It doesn't smudge and is easy to maintain.   It may be cheaper as well depending on where you go.

No. I said 2 weeks ago OSU was the most over rated Big Ten team and someone came at with excuses. Still the most over rated team. They could lose in the first round easily.

Ohio State was shorthanded without Young and Key for the game.   Lord knows we've struggled with players out throughout the season.  I'm just glad we appear to be close to full strength and healthy.

That's more of an indictment on the NET than anything else.  There is absolutely no way an 18-12 team that beat Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa, etc. gets left out over a 19-11 team from a mid-major conference that happens to have a NET of 52.

True about the NET but then you have their Kenpom at #74.  So it's not just one tool that they don't measure up in.

There's no doubt they have great wins but the bad losses are killers.

And it's not just mid-majors they need to worry about.   Florida, UVA, VaTech win a couple tournament games and they may bump an 18-13 Rutgers.

Seeding is a different animal.  But, even with unbalanced conference schedules, conference finish is a critical component of comparing resumes.  Since schools play such a wide range of out of conference schedules, conference records are effective in determining the following.

    - How teams did against common competition

    - How teams are playing at end of year

First off I think Rutgers is in.  Only thing that could put them on the bubble is maybe if Nebraska keeps winning and they were to lose to them on Friday badly. Their overall body of work is a head scratcher. The 3 game losing stretch to DePaul, Lafayette and UMASS is pretty hard to erase(hence the 76 NET).  Then throw in some bottom feeder Big 10 losses(Penn State, MD, Minnesota and Northwestern).   Rutgers really benefits from UM and IU playing each other.  Loser gotta go.  No way the commitment takes nine.
