LOL, IU is no longer a "blue blood" and hasn't been since Knight got axed decades ago. Sorry, just the facts. The Hoosiers are just another Big Ten team now.

You're missing the forest for the trees. The point you seemed to want to make was about Illinois needing 3 point shooters to prevent teams from doubling Kofi.

OK, that's fine. And I agree. Though a bigger concern is probably his ability/willingness to pass when he is doubled.

My response was simply that the had that shooting last year (35th in the nation). They have a number of those guys back and have added other guys as well. And a kid like Frazier (as we saw last night) is going to be more aggressive in hunting those 3s instead of deferring to a guy like Ayo. Sure, they still need to prove it but I don't see it as a major concern.

And the whole mess with Grandison was simply pointing out that while Ayo had a few good % from 3, it was not his primary means to score, he pretty much only took wide open set shot type attempts. He didn't shoot them off the bounce much (unless it was to win a game) and as a % of shot attempts, he was only 6th on the team.

You tried to build a strawman claiming ERMEGERD!!! HE THINKS GRANDY IS AYO!111!!ELEVEN!11

    Silly.

Of course Ayo is missed, he's one of the all time greats at UI. But the 3 point shooting is pretty far down on the list of why.

And no, his game doesn't "start with 3 point shooting" because again he's not looking there first. It "starts" with his incredible ability to get to the hoop and finish. And last season he added a deadly mid range game. The 3 point shot is there only because defenders knew they couldn't guard too close on the perimeter or he'd blow by them.

Happy to drop this as we probably just won't agree here.

That first paragraph puts you in the "You've worn out your welcome here club".

They weren't great last year...but guys have regressed it seems. Penix got hurt last year too....the difference a lot this year is that he had ZERO dual threat ability this year before going down and last year....well the Penn St game alone shows what he was capable of when scrambling. QB/OL play just really regressed....and well WR....cross the board outside of TE/RB we just haven't improved. I think the loss of Whop also hurt us. It forced sooo much attention on the defense that it allowed for a lot of one on one's last year on the outside for Fryfogle etc....and he won a lot of those. Now we have no one winning across the middle and Fogle hasn't won his 1-1 battles....and actually has a lot of drops this year....sadly enough. Just not enough attention to details on that side of the ball. On defense...well for the most part they have worn down and in some cases given up.

That defense last year won us several games.   It for sure masked our weaknesses on offense to the casual observers.

  3. If the event is mainly to earn NIL $$$...  it's a no brainer to have it the Friday before or night of a Saturday home football game.   The alumni and out of town folks are in town so take advantage of it.   I would have for sure gone when I was back for the MSU homecoming beating.

    Go Hoosiers!!!

  4.  Merriam-Webster treats the phrases couldn't care less and could care less as synonymous, both meaning "not concerned or interested at all." "Couldn't care less" is the older and more obvious phrase grammatically, but it has been confused for so long that both are now defined.

I could care less where we are ranked in the preseason this year.  Lots of unknowns.  I like our schedule though.   With my crimson colored glasses on I see a 4th place finish.

I'll believe IU is deep when I see it. We say this every preseason, but typically what it really ends up meaning is that nobody from guy 4-9 or so has separated themselves.

Was about to say the same thing.  Been fooled too many times lately thinking we were deep only to find out differently.  Here's to having an injury free  season.

Better to go to bat rather than not try.  What have you or I done to help IU be competitive with the NIL?

I could give a flip less who put it on.  That's not the point I was trying to make.  The crowd looked pathetic in the pics I've seen all over social media.  That's just bad optics for a program with a rabid fanbase.  I hate it that those stands weren't full for the players to earn more.  I hate it that future recruits see those empty seats and see full areanas at Rupp and Mackey for similar things.  I hate that more people weren't there to cheer Coach RMK.

My knock is why have this when your football team is on national TV at the same time?  And why pick a date 3 days before the start of the season?   I'm sure the athletic department had the final say here.  And they made a bad choice imo.

Glad to hear they're planning it next year on a football game day.  That is all.

NIL is here to stay whether we like it or not. I agree with Inequality in that I don’t get the negativity. Whatever people think about these guys it took work and gonads to put this thing together.

There will be schools that have interested outside parties, like the HH guys, that put on events like this, boosters that perhaps own car dealerships/restaurants/ insurance companies/investments firms etc etc etc  that give a lot of money every year for commercials and/or to podcasts that pay players for interviews.

These activities will get ingrained to the point that incoming freshman recruits will virtually be assured they will make 20k, 30k, 50k, 100k (pick a number) their first year if they go to school x,y,z.  If we don’t line things like this up we will fall behind.  It is what it is… Jimmy Chitwood has left the barn.

I'm all for having an event like fanfest but if pics are true the turnout was terrible.  Like Coach SS was right with that tweet.  That's super embarrassing for whoever put this on and for the school and the fan base.

Should have been a minimum amount of advanced tickets sold to have such an event.

    Go Hoosiers!!!

  8. I like the idea of the fanfest.   Haunted Hoops was similar and had some success.  Only thing I'd question is the timing.   I mean the season starts In 3 days!!! You want a sellout then do it Homecoming weekend.  At minimum don't have it the same time we have a nationally televised football game.

It's not what our fans want to hear, but I think that's about right. I'd like to see an IU team overachieve for a change and finish 4th or 5th. We have some nice pieces, but not enough to contend for the Big Ten title. Woodson will need at least one more recruiting class to get us there.

You can usually throw a blanket over 5th-10th.  They are that close.  Like just a 2 win difference.  So 7th is a pretty safe guess.

What the actual f*ck? That’s ridiculous! I’m going to need to find away around that. I literally only use it for IU games.

Much appreciated! I was already wondering what my options are besides Youtube TV.

I use Sling.  No contract and it's by far the cheapest.  If you just want it for IU games then don't sign up for both Sling Orange and Sling Blue.  Sign up for Sling Blue($35/month) first and add the sports package($11).  You won't have any of the ESPN's but if we have a game on one of them just edit your subscription and switch to Sling Orange.  Then switch back to Blue when IU is on BTN/FS1.  There's no charge to switch.   I think you save $15 a month that way as opposed to having Blue and Orange together.

What's your predicted high and low ranking this year for the Hoosiers?

I think this team's going to go undefeated in the non-conference and will eventually get caught sleeping in January but my word that schedule looks amazing.

I think we could be as high as fifth before we get our first loss.  Then take a few lumps and conference somewhere on a miserable snowy road Trip and hover around 12th for the rest of the season.

Am I being that big of a homer looking at this schedule or what?

@Syracuse still worries me but yea I can't see any other precon losses.  Hopefully we stay focused and don't overlook anyone as we've done lately.

    Go Hoosiers!!!
