JFC, this can't be a serious post, can it? The reason they didn't want those guys is just because they didn't want a big name? Can you think of ANY other reason that is a common denominator among those 4 coaches that might be another reason why the administration didn't want them? I mean, there's dumb posts, but this is on another level.

The options are to hire a guy like that or keep losing.  There is no in between.

For 20 years we've taken the IU Scott "Yes we're going to lose but by God we're going to lose the right way" approach.  If you want it that way fine but some of us are sick of it.  UNC, Kansas, Arizona, UL, etc get away with murder and keep winning.  Howard just punched a coach but of course he'll keep his job and UM will keep going on deep tourney runs while we sit around on our butts.

We have the right coach and staff.  We need the players.  This year is about the future, not the present.  Although, it would be nice to finish a few of these games.  We need one triple threat playmaker - just one.

We'll see.  I think he's going to have lots of trouble getting the right players.  This season needed to be huge.

I really think the program is dead. It's going to take a big name coach to resurrect it. We came close but missed this last time around.

They don't want the big names coaches who have been available.  Mile told the story many times of how we could've had Pitino.  Cal was rumored to have wanted the job badly while at Memphis.  I've had people in Evansville tell me that Pearl would've crawled from Auburn to Bloomington.  Scott Drew reportedly had interest. The problem is that the administration doesn't like the big name coaches that have been available.

Losing programs with rotten cultures have a knack for finding ways to lose. I'm sorry, but if you're an NCAA tournament team you HAVE to win when you're up 4 with the ball and 1:30 left. Take any team from the field of 68 and I bet more than half of them win in that scenario.

Been saying this for awhile now, but I'm not sure this program ever gets fixed.

I'm not sure the administration wants it fixed.  At some point you have to start to believe that this is all by design.  It's hard to believe at this point that anyone could be this incompetent by accident.

As Rico said, Davis did not 'flop'.  Does he have a 'ceiling' as a coach?  Yes.  But, he did a darn good job at Texas Southern.  And, for the uninitiated, don't look at the overall record.  They would consistently start the season with their first 12-13 games on the road against quality competition.

The point was really that he and Crean are both low mid major coaches at best.  We can disagree on our definition of flop but he couldn't hack it at UAB and is winning at like 38% at Detroit Mercy.

  6. Color me shocked.  The problem with IU basketball for the past 21 years is not the program is cursed or we have a crazy fan base or anything.  The problem is that we consistently hire abysmal coaches.  It's why Davis and Crean flopped after they left.  It's why Sampson won big while he was here and won big before and after he was here.  It's not complicated.

Yet, unfortunately for most IU fans his career was largely seen as a disappointment. He came in so highly rated. The "help is on the way" didn't do him any favors. Glad he is doing well in his professional career .

Marshall did fine given what he had to work with.  Bracey was the disappointment as he was all about Bracey Wright.  Both really got screwed when RMK got involved and forced Sean May to go elsewhere.

We are 20+ games into year one of CMW. iT may take 3 years to flip this roster. This post is really stupid. Just because you can type it you dont have to hit send.

Most of us knew Archie wasn't the guy after 1 game.  We were right.

so i was devastated when Woodson was hired.  then when i saw the staff assembled, recruits, transfers, guys staying, and all the excitement around, i was greatly encouraged.  while i have been very skeptical from the start, i don't see declaring he wasn't the answer or that he isn't getting the job done after less than a season.  at the same time, college basketball is kind of built so that you can turn things around quickly with recruiting and the transfer portal.  hard to have as much patience these days.  also, i know many disagree, but would we really have won less games with Miller coaching this season?  i guess maybe?  i still say our pre conference record would have been the same.  either way, i also don't understand the concept of ever stopping watching games or stop cheering for wins!

I’ve said it a million times but with the IU fan base being what it is you must hire a coach with street cred.  Someone who is one of top 10-15 X’s and O’s guy in college basketball and with the results to prove it.  Someone who has the resume to shut up the fans when things go astray for a bit.  No one else will ever succeed here.

Unfortunately the disconnect between the administration and the fans is so massive I’m not sure there’s ever a real solution.  There’s only one guy out there that would satisfy both the fans and the administration and he’s not interested.  The administration is too incompetent to hire a Pearl, Drew, Marshall, Pitino, etc.  It will just never happen.  I’m afraid we’re stuck in permanent purgatory.

I want to think that we are going in the right direction, but in what way are we really any different this year? Suspensions, injuries, multiple game losing streaks when we need to be building momentum. Our defense is better, I guess. We always seem to have a nice recruit, but never in enough in numbers to build a team set at more than 1-2 positions. Woodson set a goal with the team to defend our home court, but in the last month we lost three games. I don't like Coach Woodson, I love him.  He has to overhaul the line up this off season and figure out how to get the stink off of this program. Blah, blah, blah....it will be beyond awesome if we don't have to have this conversations on this board year after stinking year.  I hate sports.

I like Woodson too but if we don’t make the dance this season it’s going to be nearly impossible for him to ever recover.  It’s just the way it is with this fan base when you hire a coach with no track record at the college level whatsoever .  He’s just never going to get the benefit of the doubt when things go south.  The apathy is here and the part where the fans start rooting for loses to pile up is almost here.  Sad.

Unfortunately, we are not the only team with something to prove today.  Combine the fact that MSU has been a better program when it comes to 'proving' things over the last few years with the fact that they are at home means we may not have hit bottom yet.

    But we have Dane Fife!

I'm not betting we win 7 and i'm not betting we lose 7. You never know what is around the corner with this group. Day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute is how we should all think with this bunch. Its like watching re-runs of the past.

Yeah so hard to know.  We seem to always respond well after a bad loss but MSU has lost what 3 in a row?  They're also playing at home where we almost never win.  Both teams are very desperate.
