  1. In his last year at Alabama, our esteemed shooting Yoda had his team shooting a a 46% clip from the floor, 32% from 3 and 67% from  the stripe.  Look, I don't care who CMW hires to be the 3rd assistant.  I will not lose a minute of sleep over it.  I just don't understand A) Why we take a risk when it isn't necessary to do so. and B) Why people are selling a bill of goods about the guy that has zero evidence to back it up.

Posted this a couple of weeks ago. While a player, Woodson got caught up in some stuff with two other players. The other two were let go from the team. RMK suspended Woodson, in essence giving him a second chance.

Maybe this is Woodson doing something similar. A “pay it forward “ if you will

I personally don't feel like IU is in a position of charlty at the moment.  As someone posted earlier, he hasn't worked since being let go by Alabama, why?  Why has no one else stepped up and offered the second chance?  I just don't see the need for the risk here.  I wouldn't do it, but as I said, I'll trust CMW.

    😍 at “shooting mechanics expertise”

In 58 college games Yasir shot 36.8 from the field, 37% from 3 and 51.4% from the stripe.  Can someone explain to me how that makes him a shooting mechanics expert?  Seems like some folks are really working the mental gymnastics to try and make this hire more palletable.

After boring weekend I’ve been doing some reading up on Coach Ya....enough that I can now call him Coach Ya.

Let’s set the whole baggage issue (for which he was cleared) aside for a second.

If the guy is hired, he’s not a temporary hire because he may or may not bring Jabari Smith. He has been a D1 - power 5 assistant for many years at Oregon, Georgia and Alabama. This is not an under qualified video coordinator.

I posted a link to his podcast a few pages back, which I recommend listening to if you’re on the fence. A good segment to the podcast is devoted to giving advice to recruits. He has a knack for delivering sobering reality in a tactful way. You can see why this guy connects with recruits: he’ll be relatable, blunt and is extremely knowledgeable. The most important tips he gives to get noticed by college staffs? 1. Work hard and demonstrate you can fit into a teams culture. 2. Take your education seriously. ‘Talent’ takes a back seat to tips 1 and 2. And when talent comes up he recommends to stop dribbling and work on your shooting. Play defense. Etc.

I just get a good vibe from the guy.

I agree with almost everything you wrote, but I think with our recent history it is a stretch to set aside the baggage.  If we set aside the baggage, we could've hired Sampson again, or Alford for that matter.  I get Coach Ya was cleared, because he didn't take money.  It wasn't that he didn't take money because his moral compass said it was the wrong thing to do, he didn't take money because he didn't have anything Dawkins was willing to pay for.  Big difference there.  At IU he will likely have players others are willing to pay for.  I will trust CMW's decision, but this is someone that should be on a very short leash.

He got caught and cleared of something shady. He didnt get retained by new Bama coach. He hasn't gotten an assistant job since. Basically he has done his time for the crime.

I have no problem with IU hiring him, but they better (and I think CMW will) let him know what is allowed and not allowed at IU.

I remember people being confident that Sampson wouldn't make the same mistakes, in part because it was IU and he wouldn't have to.  If this guy is the hire, I will be disappointed because there are others available without the baggage.  That said, I think Woody and Fife will protect the program at all costs.

I'll bite and do a little speculation.

Bennett offers him a clear starting opportunity.

Woodson is looking to bring new guys in and nothing was guaranteed.

For that to be true, AF would have to look his IU teammates in the eye and say "I just don't want to work that hard to stay with you guys"  Seems a cowards way out.  Something just seems very off.  My best guess is he was an Archie guy through and through, and was hurt by the termination.

Hey.. I love me some ranch lol pizza, chicken, etc.

Back to XJ.. I don't like that his former coach had to call him out in post game interview for his behavior. Getting technicals for spouting off at another team's bench is stupid and selfish at minimum and it's not winning basketball.

I agree with Blue.  I don't want to see it excessively, but I remember Sheehey flexing in front of the purdue bench and most people loved it.  We do need a little of that.

  8. I'm surprised no one has connected the dots yet.   Mike Woodson is 63.  I doubt anyone including Mike thinks he is the long term solution.  In effect he is a placeholder, and as an IU guy he will gladly step aside when the best candidate is available.  We also brought in Matta to help with the college transition for Mike, as well as to help recruit the best candidate (who he has ties to) when the time arrives.  Now, Stevens has been in Boston for 8 years, when the average NBA coaching tenure is what, 4 years?  The Boston natives are getting restless.  How much longer will he be there?  We are now positioned well if this happens in the next couple of years.  That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

This thread should just be abut Matt Cross and hos transfer and not Archie's ability to coach.

It was sarcasm Scott.  The Fire Archie topic seems to find it's way into literally EVERY thread on this board.  I for one am over it.  I do appreciate all of the Mods efforts to keep discussions on topic.  My point was simply sarcastic.  If I didn't convey that clearly I apologize.

    Gang,

This is the recruiting forum. We can not have every thread go down the same road. There are plenty of threads in the basketball forum for these non-recruiting discussions.

    Please and thank you.

So you're saying we should fire Archie?  :coffee:
