Hopefully he can do what Newman couldn’t for Purdue.
play 10-15 minutes and be productive
Just play defense and make an occasional open 3
10 minutes a game would be an amazing success for his first year and means he is coming in ready to play.

I would not make a big deal out of it. We had several players transfer out (including Durr who transferred in).
UT has a pretty good class coming in, probably just a question of minutes available.

I actually took it the exact opposite lol
TJD is coming back and the major reason for that was NIL. I usually skew things in the positive way, and I am usually wrong haha
If it is TJD leaving, RTZ needs to work on his red and white dots and googly eye usage 🤣!

Since it’s in the “players declaring for the draft” thread I took it to mean TJD is leaving to go get paid… but that’s just my interpretation.
The dots (🔴 ⚪) and the googly eyes (👀) usually means someone committing. I the money - maybe NIL deal bringing TJD back?

To add to what you said, I think one factor that most don’t give a lot of thought too is the majority of the team being back for continuity. Year 1 under a new system that was completely different form the year before can be difficult.
Now that there is a year under the belt and many back, I think that will be a huge help. If TJD comes back, CMW found ways to better utilize him which will only help next season as well.
It won’t happen, but would be interested to see a zone defense anchored by TJD, Race, and JG. I’m not saying to use a zone with how good our defense was, but would be curious to see how that would go with how much athleticism and rebounding those 3 provide.+1
We lost a lot of close games in the first half of the season because we did not have an offense in place. Also, our depth should be sufficient to survive the next NW incident (if it should happen).

I think the "Creaning" was adding random low-level recruits at the end of the cycle only to push them out the next year or two.

I don’t see this happening, if at all. Money is still money and people don't like to give it up when they don't have too.
Athletes are sometimes the most like that. They always want free stuff and to get theirs while they can since the window to capitalize isn't as long.
I can't see a player offering to pay their own way, dipping into their own pocket, when they don't have too. Why would you give up a scholarship which would take money out of your NIL deals?
I just don't see it happening, and that didn't even get into playing time when you have 14-15 scholarship-quality players.
BUT if:
NIL at School A - Cost of not having scholarship at School A > NIL at School B
Then it would make financial sense to go to School A anyway. Although the money is not explicitly tied to a school... it kind of is.

Is this what they look like now?

To be honest, with the extra COVID year AND with NIL causing more players to return to college, there has to be a serious scholarship crunch for the next couple of years. Players that would have scholarships easily under normal circumstances are going to have to find alternatives.
Honestly, they should have increased the number of scholarships to 14 until COVID year crunch is over.

don't know why i have suddenly decided to dominate the board. guess bc my regulars aren't hammering my every single comment? anyway, i don't know much, but if by chance JG and TJD both come back, it's so hard for me to imagine Reneau or Race not starting, but clearly TJD is starting. maybe all could be happy if Race and Trayce started and Reneau was on the court pretty much any time either of them were out? but then what for Geronimo? i wish so bad he could primarily be a SF, but just can't see it. maybe if he spends all offseason with that focus? i am a huge advocate of having my best 5 players on the floor as much as possible regardless of position. then play my next 3 good solid minutes regardless of position. play #9 and #10 limited. no one else needs to play in close games. 1 TJD 2 XJ 3 JHS 4 Bates 5 Thompson 6 Reneau 7 Geronimo 8 Galloway 9 Kopp 10 Leal
My take: If JG does not really improve his game, he is not a starter on an elite team. If he does improve his game - namely handles - he can play heavy minutes at the three.
Most of why we all want JG on the court next year is we assume that he is already working on his game and will make an equal or greater jump in skillset this offseason.

Has possible Bryce Hopkins to Providence been discussed? I read it on Rupp Rafters... It seems like Providence's name is coming up a lot lately in recruiting.

So with the Malik Reneau commitment, where do we stand with scholarships? Was that the last one we had open for next year?
Depends on if TJD is coming back or not.

I’m excited about this commit, but better than Eric Gordon I don’t see. That being said, I’m excited for the future for the the first time in awhile.
That would be awesome if he is - but I would have to see it to believe it. EG was unstoppable.

... Like how much do you have to screw up or how bad of a fit do you have to be to get canned by your Alma Mater in less than 12 months after "coming home"? I don't know, but I would guess 95% of us wouldn't get fired that fast. ...
Don't underestimate us. I think a lot of us could get fired that fast!

Nah, nothing like that. Top 4-5 seed should be the expectation though.

He's an Archie leftover, so not surprising. Turnover like this is bound to happen.
Who is left from Archie's administration?
I know of
- Kenya Hunter - but he was mostly "imposed" on CAM in that last year
- Walsh - who has a long history with the Miller family

Unfortunately, Mike DeCourcy knows our team well...
Objectively, we still have something to show in order be ranked. Unless there is an unexpected roster blow-up, I do expect us to float in and out of the ranking next year.

Figures... the one group that probably put some real thought into it did not pick us.
To be honest, ESPN probably threw us in there just so they would get clicks from all of the IU fans.

Interesting. That lists IU, Georgia, and FSU as the schools to watch.. no Miami.
I think the FSU is a typo, because it later says this: "He’s originally from South Florida, and Miami was one of his finalists when he committed the first time."
FSU is not south Florida.

Let's host UNC in the ACC Big 10 challenge and play at Nova for the Gavitt games

My take on this one is that for the Mid major you get a star and he gets poached. You believed in him when the big boys didn't and maybe you reached him and helped him attain his potential. A lot of the guys leaving the big programs are due to lack of PT or some internal issues. I think its much easier for a P5 to replace their roster than the mid majors.
It is what we have so all schools have to adjust and make the most of it.
This could work both ways. If I am a lower mid-major coach I am selling this idea to low 70ish ranked recruits:
You can go to UNC/UK/KU/IU and sit for three years or you can come to Ball State and develop. If you are good enough and want to shift to UNC/UK/KU/IU in a couple of years, I will help you find the right situation.
That is, make about doing right by the kid.

think there's a ton of difference between Hubert Davis and Mike Davis, way in Hubert's favor...
Hubert has the NBA background, been around the program for more than a few years, and I think he'll recruit better. I actually think he's a great long term solution for UNC.
Scheyer? I'm not so sure about. I think he's a good Xs and Os guy, but can he keep Duke getting 5 star kids? I know he's got a nice haul for next year, but can he keep that momentum...
+1 ...
- Coach Hubert Davis (CHD) really wanted the job
- CHD is qualified to be the head coach at an elite program
- Has the support of the outgoing hall of fame coach
- The previous coach will not tell recruits to boycott the school
- The administration at UNC is not actively sabotaging the basketball program
- This was planned exchange...
Superficially, there is the similarity of assistant replacing hall of fame coach. BUT all the peripherals favor Hubert's situation. CMD was only promoted so that we could field a team...
I hate Duke, so I hope Scheyer is terrible as a coach.

There was a time way back when I liked Duke a little....and it wasn't even Duke's fault but after 92 I was done with them. Coach K is a legend. Wish our legend adjusted with the times the way he did. Oh well. That's life. Adjust with times or you get left behind.
+1 I also liked Duke before '92 FF - I remember rooting for them against UNLV the previous year. Same story - they went from one my favorite non-IU teams to my least favorite team in one night. And it was really TV Ted's fault, not Duke's... after that I hated them.
It also did not help that ESPN became the Duke propaganda network a few years later. That made me hate Duke even more AND made me go from loving ESPN to hating ESPN.
