Maybe coach Shep just doesn't care for XJ....I don't have an issue with XJ's game and what he has done.  I think as he goes the team goes, maybe even more so than TJD this year.

The one problem I have with XJ is the theatrics that we must endure every game....being an instigator, flopping around all the time, that is the stuff that make people not like him.  If he could just chill out on that stuff he would probably be one of everyone who watches favorite players.  Don't get me wrong, I will root for him just like anyone else on the team, but I could do without the nonsense.

The thing is that Coach Shep keeps bringing up quality of play issues. If Shep's problem is with XJ's theatrics, then just say it and most of us can easily agree that there are some elements of that theatrical nature that he needs to work on.

Let's say we were discussing a car that drives extremely well. If the real thing they do not like is the vinyl seats, then do not start discussing the acceleration and handling - especially if they are excellent.  Just say, "I do not like the vinyl seats." Then we can all move on.

XJ is one of our best players in terms of game play AND the numbers back it up.

  2. My 2 cents: Coach Shep must be playing with everyone. I would have argued that XJ was one of our best players when he was out of control half the time. I could see some arguments against him then... not now.

Now that governs the offense with an iron fist and makes globally good decisions, he is the core of this team. Honestly, his directing the team on where to position themselves on offense impressed me as much as anything in the PU game.

Honestly, XJ's play has been so good that an IU fan believing his play has not been good only leaves a few reasonable possibilities:

    1. They did not watch the last few games
    2. They are crazy/do not know anything about basketball
    3. I am crazy/do not know anything about basketball
    4. We live in similar parallel universes that somehow intersect along HSN...

EDIT: I am hoping it is #4 - that would be cool.

Knight took Good basketball players and made them very good players and then recruited some very good athletes and made them great basketball players. When you blend it all together you have five banners hanging in the hall. Look at Wisconsin over the last 20 years and you will find that is the recipe they use for success.

I do not recall Knight's team flopping a lot and taking sucker punches to people's groins. Wisconsin reminds me more of a Duke team in how the try to win (especially before Duke went all UK in recruiting).

Which part was a poor decision.  The pressing , the timeout, the handshake line, the grab of the arm which

The grab of the arm and the "splaining"

I am not saying these kind of things don't happen all of the time and no question that Coach Howard was way more out of line, but happening all the time and being the right thing to do are not the same thing.

I am biased though, because I just feel that Wisconsin is the dirtiest team in the B1G. When a team is consistently dirty, it reflects on the coach.

  5. Hopefully this causes the league to clean up the Wisconsin team and start calling all the dirty stuff they do. I am not justifying Michigan's post game response, but the stuff that Wisconsin gets away with every game is going result in some dissatisfied people.

Even Gard's post-game where he was going to "splain" the rules to Coach Howard explains why I hate Wisconsin.

He definitely would have made a difference helping to defend Frazier in particular. Agree, not saying we win, but that was a tight game (if I remember correctly) through 30 minutes, then Illinois started hitting some 3's.

Phinisee is pretty key to what this team does.

He won the PU game for us... his D would have really changed that second half.

  7. FYI: For the arguments, VO in '12-'13 was not a "just a dunker"

I AM NOT COMPARING him to Alford as a shooter, but the '12-'13 season was the year he came out with a shot (-44% from three on decent volume - 68 shots) AND was able to create his own shot.

I honestly would take him over Alford, even for this team that desperately needs a shooter (close call given our needs). He was the #2 to pick the draft that year and backed it up with a stellar NBA career until injuries.
