Obviously a lighthearted moment, but on the Hoosier hysterics pod after the Purdue game, they asked Gabe Cupps if he had to bet $100 on Miro Little’s commitment, Cupps said he’d bet on IU.
Great, that is probably an infraction...

Wisconsin was pretty close...that was an absolute collapse.....tough pill to swallow. I will say in years past it would have started like a 3-4 games skid...but we bounced back well...same thing with the Michigan one. We have been much more resiliant this year.
That one burns more for sure. I spent the last 15 minutes of the second half just hoping the time would melt off... unfortunately, it felt like the team was playing the same way.

The worst loss is Michigan. Not just because it was at home, but because they crushed us.
All the other losses were winnable.

I would be thrilled with 5-4 in that stretch. Although 7-2 is realistic I think that is a little too optimistic. I hope like hell I’m wrong but I’d be pretty surprised if we beat both Nwestern and Minny on the road, and beating Purdue on the road ….. well 🧐.
I can't shake this feeling that we will beat Purdue again. I know it defies all logic, but... 🙂
I would also be thrilled with 5-4. Honestly, 4-5 should get it done (tournament). I just do not like the idea of "backing" into the tourney.

Does this help us?
A little - we played PSU twice, but only play Iowa once

Perfect halfway point for a little bit of rest, instruction, and catching our breath before our toughest 2 week stretch of the year....plus depending on how this storm plays out this week some of these teams might be spending the night or have travel problems.
Nice week to get healthy and wait for our guests from the West on Saturday.
Definitely good for the team (especially for RP). I meant for my viewing 😉.

Alabama just skunked Baylor a few days ago with Quinerly looking like his old self.
But we don't get the respect because of meltdowns like at Wisconsin and Iowa and losing to penn st. We already know this. This team is so close to having one loss but voters don't pay as much attention to those details as we do, knowing our own team inside and out. And of course, preseason rankings are still boosting a team like Texas.
If we can find a way yo keep winning, we will look great come selection Sunday. Some of the computer rankings will start to really shape up the next few weeks as well. Doesn't kenpom taper out all preseason stuff by early February? They may already be out of it by now.
Agreed.
I am quite sure that later season rankings are associated with preseason rankings, even after controlling for in season record.
That being said, I am ok with us not being ranked yet. We need to beat a good team and then not follow-up with a bad loss. Luckily, if we beat UI on Saturday, we will not have an opportunity to screw it up on the road against Northwestern (before the poll) and MAYBE that will be good enough to get us into the poll.

One week is a long time between games.

We do not need a real upset to finish the year with a solid regular season record of 22-7.
If we take care of business, i.e., win home games and road game against MD caliber or worse, we will go 6-3 (I have 7-2 below, because I cannot bring myself to put an L next to the Purdue game 😉).
- Sat, Feb 5 vs 18 Illinois: W (home)
- Tue, Feb 8 @ Northwestern: W (non-elite)
- Sat, Feb 12 @ 13 Michigan State: L (elite road)
- Tue, Feb 15 vs 11 Wisconsin: W (home)
- Sat, Feb 19 @ 16 Ohio State: L (elite road)
- Thu, Feb 24 vs Maryland: W (home and non-elite)
- Sun, Feb 27 @ Minnesota: W (non-elite)
- Wed, Mar 2 vs Rutgers: W (home)
- Sat, Mar 5 @ 4 Purdue: W (Purdue, I cannot pick against us)
NOTE: We have 2 losses that violate this home and less than MD on the road right now (Michigan and PSU), so probably will wind up with an extra loss.

I would not consider UI a big rival, but I would not put them with Rutgers or PSU either.
I think my Big Ten Rivalry ranking is:
- PU
- OSU
- Wisc
- MSU
- UMCP
- UM
- UI
- Iowa
- Minn
- RU
- Northwestern
- PSU
- NU

Agree. This game isn't any different to me than Rutgers, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa, Maryland...
I certainly want to see IU win, but it's not even in the same stadium as beating Turdue and pUKe. The bonus in Underwear's contact is both funny and pathetic.
I like that he gets paid more if they beat us twice than if the players do well in class.
A unique clause in the "incentive compensation" section of the first-year Illini basketball coach's finalized contract, signed earlier this month and released Tuesday, calls for a $15,000 bump for any win over rivals Indiana or Missouri (up to $45,000 in any one season).
— Also among the up to $900,000 in incentives Underwood is eligible for: per-semester bonuses if the team GPA reaches 2.5 ($6,250), 2.75 ($12,500) or 3.0 ($25,000).

I know TJD has experience going against the cock and is probably relishing the opportunity to outplay him, but I hope Durr gets at least 15 minutes against him. If Woodson kept Durr out today so that IL is less likely to game plan for him, I'd call it brilliant. Durr can pull him away from the basket, defend him, and keep TJD from wearing down.
This is a game, like Purdue, where Durrs impact can be huge. I hope he is chomping at the bit to get out there and make the most of his opportunity.
I kind of get the feeling that Durr is in the doghouse.

Looks like Jerome Hunter has lost his starting job to Jack Nunge. His playing time has been reduced drastically in the last two weeks.
Nunge has been better in the games I have seen
EDIT: looked it up and his stats are WAY better

TJD his usual excellent self. Double-double from Race. Good contributions from Galloway and JG off the bench. Flickers of hope from Lander.
But damn….X is a grown-ass man out there. 8 points, 9 assists and ONE turnover.
No turnovers in the normal offense... it is tough turnover when you steal the ball and get called for traveling because you cannot really land.

As of today, CBS has IU (11) in the tournament playing Xavier (6) in the East with Kansas (1), Duke (3), Kentucky (4), along with Wis (2), UConn, Miami, Alabama, etc. That would be a tough region.
I like that match-up. I think our defense would drive them nuts. Nunge has had some moments though.
5-5 gets it done. 4-6 maybe? But I would not bet on it.

XJ's on the ball defense was always decent, but in the past few games it's been exceptional...as good as Rob's I thought...and almost every BTN announcer says Rob's one of the best defenders in the league...
Not that it matters, but I say it too 🤪.
In the sequence right before he came up limping on the rebound, Rob was a defensive savant... I cannot wait to get him back.

29 in BPI.
We are in a very good spot for an at large bid. Hoping we can move to the 5-7 range and avoid an 8/9 game followed by a 1 seed.
I am hoping 5-6. I always feel like a lot of 7s get upset by some hot 10s to start the tournament.
