Men across the country should push to eliminate Pinterest. My wife has ideas of a she shed- part shed, part greenhouse- that she want me to build her. Might be my project for next year. They have kits but I may be building from scratch so as to customize it. That will be a big test of my DIY skills.

You got this man! It will help make your marriage even stronger!..........    hahahahahaha     even I have to laugh at that one.

    P.S.  Rent a Bobcat

WAIT! We better find out about his coordination to do 4 different things with his hands and feet, all simultaneously first. After all, he will be maneuvering around a wall that has water at the bottom of it on the other side. This could get very interesting, very quickly.

Speaking of pre-planning...i really wish I could remember the Exact details so bear with me...

Fauci said that they are going to work on manufacturing vaccines before they are approved, hoping to have one ready to administer right away upon approval. Apparently manufacturing these can take months. Of course, this can backfire if the vaccines don’t work because they’ll be left with a lot of useless vaccines. But desperate times are calling for desperate measures.

I'm not involved in pharma much, but I can tell you that almost all medical devices build up inventory well before final FDA market launch approval. a day wasted is lost revenue!

  5. I’ve been ON FIRE in a couple DIY Facebook groups lately. Channeling my inner, Dad jokes super powers.
one fellow asked for suggestions for a finish or surface treatment on the deck between the house and pool so his kids wouldn’t burn their feet from the sun making the boards too hot.
I suggested that maybe Sandals would be something he should look into.

I've been a toolmaker for 40 years, so I can relate to your thoughts about the industry. I could have started started drawing full SS last year, but I decided to wait.

I started life as a tool maker (18 yrs) and really miss twisting the knobs on the manual machines. I had a 3 paragraph rant all typed out about this, but deleted it. Without the skilled trades, life's going to be even harder going forward.

I don't know if it's considered much or not. I just did 8 cubic yards of mulch today. Would love to know how many bags that is. It feels like a lot and the first and second beers will have a short life.

My trailer will hold 3, heaped and patted down. 8 is a lot in my book. You may need an opiate pain killer later.. lol

Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope everything is healing well and you are back at it.

Thank you sir. All is healing well and I've even made a lot more progress on the shed. In my standard fashion, I'm 90% done with it so it's time to start on the next project ! lol

That guy just might have to be my phone a friend life line. I picked up wrong fittings for the shower hookup. I appreciate it.

The plumbing project that does not require 4 trips to the hardware.... doesn’t exist! On the bright side, gas is cheap right now.

100% agree that the dude has impressive credentials and a history of valid scientific output, but he's making the same mistake so many others are doing - extrapolating his experience in a single country with worldwide results. That just doesn't work in the best of times, but definitely not now. What might be true for Bloomington, IN is most likely not the same for Queens, NY or Lombardy, Italy.

And yes, I overstated his case b/c it's so poorly presented. He basically said that if you take care of the elderly then all is good. That's just not the case.

One of our faculty just published a paper with over 4,000 cases and 54% of the hospitalized cases were under age 54. And shockingly, smoking and vaping was not a factor. We are still looking into this though.

You know what was a huge factor though? Being a dude. Guys were 60% of hospitalized and 68% of those who became critically ill. We all need to take care of ourselves!

See, the world is just now understanding the man flu!

According to the University of Washington model, Georgia should be one of the last sates to re-open.

caption: A map provided by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation on April 17, 2020, predicting the earliest date after which states could begin to ease back some social distancing measures

Just imagine the reaction if/when the Washington models proves to be BS after they open up. This could get ugly, very very ugly.

Yeah, Yeah, I've been there in states that don't allow you to pump your own gas!  SO WHAT! I used to supervise a department of UAW employees that had three of the top ten seniority employees on a campus of 2700!

What is pissing me off, is that in a thread about Coronavirus, you all have just blown by my announcement that I am now at the forefront of the next battle! I'm going back to work Tuesday as a 66 year old, and I am ecstatic about it! Not for me, but for my friends on the line that must be on life support financially!

Praying it all works out for the best my friends!

So you’re willing to take one for the team, that takes guts. You know that it’s about more than any individual, I celebrate and thank you! If only more people would think like you, thank you for your sacrifice sir.

Things were definitely not going well for me for a while.  Put on a decent amount of weight.

Last week I started running to try to get back in shape.  Before I came here, I just posted to my classes that I encourage them to reach out to help keep me on track.

This time I got a fitness and nutrition tracker and I've been logging everything into it.  It has been really helpful, and I am actually enjoying it.  Hopefully I can keep it up.

    Cool! Good luck.

    I made cupcakes.  lol

So I'm slimy because I choose to believe the experts that say having a respiratory disease circulating the population for months is irresponsible and our actions likely counterproductive?

It's not that I dont care about the people suffering from this, but I also am concerned for the 10's of millions who's livelihoods are disrupted or destroyed forever.  It's called cost/benefit analysis.

I don't think that he was saying you are slimy, he thinks Politicians are as slimy as you think they are. But I could be wrong.

I really dont understand why people are acting like this thing is fundamentally different than other viruses.  The industry I work in deals with avian flu almost annually.  Thank god it isn't transmissible to humans because it acts just like what this article describes.

    https://nypost.com/2020/04/12/the-coronavirus-can-travel-at-least-13-feet-new-study-shows/amp/

If this thing is as widespread and contagious as they say then we should be experiencing much higher mortality rates.

I'm more convinced everyday that this has become an experiment in population control.

Well they do have a proven, tested blueprint now. Now get in the cattle cars everyone.

So we got any Jeep people here?

I’ve got a 4” lifted 4-door Wrangler (looks  a lot like the one in my pic but that’s a pic off google). It’s a great vehicle, can handle about any terrain with of course good ground clearance, that’s what they’re built for — but the little 6 cylinder engine is funny. Not winning any drag races in it lol (I leave that for my C63....).

Have been thinking about adding better air intake and mufflers to get a little more power but haven’t— anyone fooled around some with outfitting a Jeep?

I've got a 14' 2 door JK w/ 4" and 35"s. I've put a rear bumper on it but that's about it. I always plan to do more but just never do for some reason.

Also have a, 18' JL 4 door. Bone stock, it's the wifes. and an 07' Commander with 3rd row seating. IT's the wife and grand kids cool (not) bus.

I've built trucks and jeeps all my adult life.

So my Silverado is leaking gas from the top of the tank. To figure out what it is I have to either drop the tank or somehow try to move or get the bed off by myself. Why the heck cant they just have an access door on the floor of the bed to get to the top of the tank?😡

Can't you just not fill it up above 3/4 of a tank? See, I'm a fixer! lol

  18. Totally unrelated to the subject but totally related to the topic of peer help. I'm a member of several DIY groups. The latest project that has my attention is one of a beginner wanting to set a hot tub, and he is asking for the appropriate way to create the footings for this hot tub. ... I've built everything from janky 10 x 10 sheds to 10,000 sq/ft building from designs in my head, so the responses were fascinating, in several different directions and all of them are correct, yet different levels of over kill to janky. But they are all extremely confident in their suggestions.

Project: "10'x10' hot tub, how should I build the footings?"

The peer review help, ranged from (all being EXTREMELY confident) lay some level stone pavers over a couple inches of crushed stone, too 6" of poured concrete with reinforced rebar and using fiberglass strand reinforced concrete.  (FYI, 6" of crete will hold 1100 pounds per square inch. .. yes INCH. )

Anyway, all of these type conversations are great and I love them (and have learned A LOT!). Never forget though that everyone wants to be an expert while few are, but several experts can bring laughs to many while they exhibit their subject matter excellence.

Best alternator story I ever had! Had about a 50 mile drive to work, half way all of a sudden the voltage started dropping then all the electronics started going haywire. Called my wife to come get me. Took awhile getting the kids around and driving the 25 miles. I said let me just try it and see if it will start and you can follow me home. Fired right up and ran great until just before I got home same issues! Pulled the alternator and checked everything good, started thinking about what could possibly have occurred I thought temperatures! Put the alternator in the oven at about 150 let it heat soak pulled it out and the field winding was open?

Brilliant about the oven! Chasing intermittent problems.... Always try to replicate the same conditions.   If that wouldn't have worked, I would have thought a can of gas and a match. :)

Alright, in these odd COVID-19 times I'm having some wacky car issues, with a shout out to the old click and clack Car Talk show, thought it'd be good to have a car talk thread up.

Here's my latest issue. Son's car, 2018 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo, push button start, but when you push the button the lights go and, nothing.

First thought it was the battery. Replaced it ($160). Nothing. The guys at O'Reilly's then checked all fuses, including the ignition fuse at the positive terminal. Nothing -- all fuses good. They then suggested maybe there was some kind of short between the fuse box and battery.

I took it to my usually reliable auto mechanic. He first deducted that it was the key fob. Put a new battery in the fob and the car started.

Drove it away. Next day, same issues, lights go on, car doesn't start, engine doesn't turn over. Have already tested/ruled out the alternator.

Read up on some Nissan forums, other 2018 Nissans having the same issues. For some of those people, the key fob fixed it, for others they replaced the brake switch (have to press the break to start the car), and that worked, but for some others, it didn't. The forums say their dealerships were unhelpful. Classic. It's a freaking 2018 but, no, no longer under warranty (36K miles). Of course this didn't happen while under warranty.

    Any ideas guys?

And post your own car issues / questions -- should be fun for discussion and just maybe, helpful

Probably not your issue but. I had the exact same condition with a vehicle 2 months ago. Followed the exact same steps you mention here. I personally tested the Alternator 3 times andf it worked perfectly. Come to find out, it actually was an intermittent short in the alternator. There was a single spot that if it stopped at that spot, it dead shorted the entire system, drained everything but not fast enough to let the smoke leak out of everything. I just post as it's "my" story and after 35 years of working on everything car/ truck/ tractor/boat/ motorcylce... had never saw it before.

Lostin, I don’t disagree with you! But you and I having experience with the FDA we need to realize it is no where near that simple! I used to be a certified ISO13495 auditor!  Rapid change in the medical device and pharmaceuticals is not a good idea!! Streamlining the approval system is much needed!

    495 covers food, right?
