  1. If you look at any/all of the coaches letting assistants go during the season, they're all in danger of being fired themselves. It's a last ditch effort to throw some other people under the bus and make it look like they're RIGHT NOW going to address an issue that can't be addressed in actuality until the offseason anyway. Allen is not in this position, and I'd be shocked if we don't see changes made to the offensive staff in the offseason.
  2. NCAA has been doing this for football, and it looks like they are going to do it for basketball, too. I think this would be a good thread to keep track of what the officials are focusing on as the season goes on. On this initial video, it sounds like the "arm bar" is going to be a big point of emphasis this year. Here's by and large what I take away: If your man posts you up, you can't really defend him unless you're in the lane, or "close to" the lane, or as they like to refer to it, "the post area," which makes it extremely ambiguous in my opinion. I hate this rule, and it's going to get abused by officials a lot as the season progresses. It leaves way too much up to interpretation, and it makes it very hard to play defense effectively if a player posts you up outside the lane. It seems like every rule change and emphasis makes it harder and harder to play defense; the NCAA definitely wants offense driven games.
  3. With all due respect to EMU, they would have a hard time hanging with last year's IU team...
  4. To be clear, I'm still firmly an Allen fan. That's how I feel about the offense.
  5. To be honest, it feels like the end of Archie Miller's tenure. I'm watching because I'm a fan, but it almost feels like a chore watching our offense. I still enjoy watching the defense, but man, this has been a rough season for the offensive side of the ball.
  6. Defense is gassed and Michigan knows it
  7. Allen clearly not happy with Sheridan
  8. If I had to put money on it, my guess is we move on from Hiller and Sheridan gets one more season.
  9. Penix returned too fast, but we can't block long enough to give any of our QB's a chance to do anything. There won't be improved production unless our o line vastly improves
  10. Our o line has just killed us this year
  11. Against Purdue, sure. Not any other time
  12. Because Edwards, after being on/off all year, finally put it all together and just went off in the tournament. You're likely to go far when you've got a player consistently draining threes just after stepping across the half court line.
  13. Alabama at 2 is an absolute joke. Really 75% of the top 25 is absolute junk. It's like they just picked names out of a hat.
  14. I'm with you, but I think you missed the horrible O line play.
  15. Their biggest problem is that they can't accurately interpret what they're seeing because they are, by and large, ignorant when it comes to football. They're like the guy in The Waterboy saying, "We suck again!," when it's much more complicated than that. I mean, I'm no football savant, but I also don't think it takes a rocket scientist to understand that the record is not necessarily because IU is a terrible team. They think it's like basketball, where when you have one or two great players, you can turn around a program in a season, but turning a football team like IU into a bona fide contender year-in-year-out will take at least a decade, particularly when it comes to developing depth. Our 1st string on D is stout, but go to the 2-3 deep, and you saw what happened today. This season will be a minor setback on a steady upward trajectory, but they see it as IU returning to "form." The Big Ten East is historically good right now, one of our OOC opponents ended up being a top ten opponent, and we've had our top two corners out against probably the best two passing attack offenses we will play this season (outside WKU, but I digress). It particularly hurt today because the offense had its best game of the season so far. We've also been unlucky enough to play teams at the wrong time of the year. Had we played Iowa and PSU these past two weeks, I feel pretty good about our chances of winning. Both were legit top-ten good when we played them. Add on to that the trouble we've had at the qb position and with the line, and it's been a rough year, but none of that has me down on this team. McCulley is going to be really good (hell, he already is!), and I fully expect Allen to make the moves he needs to make in the offseason. You know, they also talked a whole bunch of trash about him when he got hired, so right now it's probably also a bit of schadenfreude for them, too. I think a lot of those posters would rather be "right" than have a good team, honestly.
  16. I wonder who we've been missing on defense the last two games 🤔
  17. It's what we call playing the odds in preserving as many bowl appearances for the big ten as possible
  18. I think there's a lot of doom and gloom based on our collective past experience as IU football fans (and as a lifelong fan, I get it), but this will be, in my opinion, the second easiest game we've played this year, so let that sink in a little bit. Take a look at WKU - we are tied with MSU as holding them to their fewest points this season, and we did it in a night game/record attendance atmosphere setting - it was the game they all had circled on their calendar. They've also only lost to undefeated MSU, undefeated UTSA, Army (triple option anyone?), and us. I think a lot fans' dread stems from how close this game was, but WKU is a really good team, and we withstood their best shot. Our offense has been very lackluster, but you also have to consider that 4 out of 6 games this year have been against some of the best defenses in the country. That goes for the o-line, too. They've definitely been our biggest problem, but they've also spent the majority of this season's games going up against teams that 1) are known for having great line play, and 2) up until recently have run circles around us in recruiting. We've also had the sheer bad luck to play teams at their peak. Open with OSU, and play PSU/Iowa this week, and I think those games, if not wins, look a lot more competitive. With the gameplan centered around McCulley, and him taking first team snaps this week, don't be surprised if he looks like much more effective than last weekend. In short, what I'm saying is that we have glaring problems on offense, but it still doesn't mean we are doomed the rest of the season. If we play to the same level we did against Cincy and MSU, we beat Maryland, Rutgers, and Minnesota pretty comfortable. The Bucket Game is always a toss-up, though. Good chance that game is played with IU and Purdue both 5-7. Edit: Just looked it up, WKU is #2 (#2!) in total offense. Guess who's #1...
  19. After their loss to Oregon, OSU is running one of, if not the best, offenses in the history of college football. There's absolutely nothing to be gleaned from this game outside the fact that our offensive and defensive lines are far from CFP quality, which we already knew. OSU's average points and average yards went down (albeit slightly) with last night's game. The first time we made them punt was the first time in 19 drives. I don't think there's a team in the country that's going to stop them, including Georgia. 80% of our offensive game plan went out the window at the conclusion of the first drive of the game when Tuttle went down, and it was working better than it has thus far. The last thing you want to do in that situation is kill your remaining qb's confidence by letting him get thrashed by the best team in the FBS, which is why you saw him in more limited action after that. People calling for Allen to be fired have no idea what they're talking about or how coaching works at all. And Allen isn't firing anybody in the middle of the season, especially when we have no one to insert in their position if we do. I'm more embarrassed at some of our fans (particularly on another, nameless, site) than I am at our team's performance yesterday.
  20. Our only real weakness on defense is the lack of a pass rush, so I could see how that would make the o line look better than it was before the start of the season.
  21. Our offensive line is getting absolutely dominated in this game. We absolutely must make a change in the off-season
